Breaking news on ESPN right now. It is confirmed.

This situation is just laughable. I do think it makes the Vikings better however.
I'm not sure it makes them better honestly. He threw 22 INTs last year. Even Tavaris Jackson doesn't turn over the ball that much.

OMG Chris Carter is on ESPN flat out screaming in the guy from ESPN's face saying "Don't lie to me!" "Don't lie to me!" He is pissed because the Vikings lied to Jackson and Rosenfels telling them as soon as yesterday that there was no way that Favre would be a Viking.

Playing in a dome, on a fast track, with Adrian Peterson, Sidney, Berrian, Harvin, etc...he will put up huge numbers, IMO.

That's hilarious
:rotfl:
I do feel back for Jackson and Rosenfels, though. Their organization really jerked them around. I'd be looking for a trade if I were them and thought any other team might want me (which, of course, probably isn't the case).

Favre will get between $10-$12 million for one year to play with the Vikings.

From the jets to the vikings- there's an upgrade in o-line, running game, and defense...I'll go conservative and say WR is a toss-up between the 2 teams
Based on that- Favre will put up better numbers this year- as long as his shoulder holds up properly

AND he already knows the offense. He gets a lot of grief for his performance last year but he made the Jets way better then they should have been with an offense he was learning on the fly. It's worth a shot at the very least for Minnesota if they want to win this year and this year only. It's a huge risk and if it doesn't work out this year who knows what kind of shape they will be in after this. I like it though, not being a Minnesota fan, I like it and can't wait to see how he does with them.

Pretty interesting view from a former player...and although I know the QBs got lied to, from what I'd read a lot of the players on the Vikings had still been asking Favre to come play for them after he said no...should be an interesting season

I don't see this working out for either party. I predict 8 INTs to 4 TD's in the first 4 games, followed by a bunch of locker room drama over whether to bench Farve or not.

But other than the other skill positions, Green Bay has the better QB right now.
The Packers probably feel better that the Vikings picked up Favre and Rosenfels this offseason instead of Cutler, Castle, or even Vick.

YAY! just when i thought my respect for a man couldn't get lower, BAM! he comes back, again.
i'm sorry, but when a man cries and says "all good things must come to an end," and THEN he says "there's no way" he'll play another game in the NFL, he should be done. he shouldn't come back for another season, let alone sign a 2-year deal.
long story short, Favre is an attention whore that just wants to be the focus of the NFL again. and on top of that, i feel that he just wants more money. i dont think he LOVES the sport anymore. it's not a passion, it's not his life, it's his JOB. instead of coming back of the love of football, i feel he's coming back for all the wrong reasons: to be the focus of everyone's attention, to get even more money, and to get revenge on the Packers for doing what i believe he deserved a year sooner. GROW THE F*** UP! honestly, just go away now.

Um yeah... the Browns, the Lions, the 49ers, and the Pack....
just a roundtable of badass-ness right there. I'm pretty sure he'll start strong just like he did last year in a MUCH BETTER conference. Baltimore and Pitt might pick his ass apart around midseason, sure, but the vikings are winning 10 games this year with him.

i do agree the Vikings will win at least 10, but mostly because of the division. the Bears will suck, Lions will suck (although i think they could surprise people this year, and i do predict about 7 wins for them), and the Packers wont be much of a factor IMO.
as for the AFC being a MUCH BETTER conference, i disagree. i think it's more balanced now than ever. sure the NFC has the Lions, 49ers, Packers, Bears, and Rams. but the AFC has the Chiefs, Raiders, Browns, Bengals, Bills, Jags (who will be bad this year), and the Texans (who i also believe will surprise people, but are still nothing at this moment.
on the good side, the NFC has teams like the Eagles, Giants, Panthers, Falcons, Vikings, Cardinals (they'll be back pretty strong) and Cowboys. and i believe the Seahawks will be a great team this year, Tampa Bay is ALWAYS competitive, Saints have a top 3 offense, Redskins are competitve, etc. i think the NFC as a whole is very close, if not possibly better than the AFC at this point.
but that's a whole other argument all together. haha, sorry.

Bret Favre just GO AWAY! You quit, you come back, you quit, you come back. I've lost count. I wouldn't mind if he'd just make his mind up, and do it earlier. He's coming in, after they've already been practicing, setting up their team, and going about their business. NOW, now, he decides to come back. I'd be ticked off if I was a QB on the Vikings' roster. After they've told you that you're their guy, they go and bring in another guy late in the process that hasn't gone through workouts, hasn't gone through training camp, and let's be honest, they didn't bring him in to back-up anyone. They brought him in to start, and if I was a player on that team, especially a QB, and this guy just shows up halfway through preseason and is given the starting QB job, I'd be supremely PO'ed.

Completely agree with all your points. I think he has every right to come back if he feels like he can play. And the situation is a good fit.
The thing I don't like is the way he handled it. If he had planned on coming back (and if you don't think he knew, you're kidding yourself) he should have said so. Favre and the Vikings management were the ones who handled the situation poorly.

Yeah, you said it perfectly. I don't blame the guy or mind the guy coming back. I just think it's not honorable to drag out your decision like he did here recently, and in the past with the Packers. He left the team hanging in both instances, where everyone was waiting on Bret Favre, and it ended up being a huge distraction in camp when they could have been focusing on getting their team ready to play in the upcoming season.
The other thing I don't like is how Bret seems to be all about me, all about him. In addition to leaving his team hanging in both cases, he refused to try and help Aaron Rogers' development in Green Bay. Favre said he'd be retiring soon, so they, being the responsible organization, went out and got his heir apparent. Then Favre changes his mind, says I'm coming back, and then avoids Rogers like the plague. He's not a team player, with his teammates or whatever organization he's been a part of. If Bret ain't happy, he makes sure that nobody is happy, and that's wrong.

haha yeah man I agree I just meant to say division not conference (afc east > nfc north).
And for the guy who's hatin' on his look-- he's just addin' some Loooziana/southern mississippi class to those nooks up there. John Deere sales just went up 70% in Minnesota.

How about this, we throw him under the the clemson players as they are running down the hill? That way, Favre haters get to see him trampled, and others get to see Clemson players falling and looking like idiots on their game day entrance. Everyone, at least affiliated with this site, wins from that situation.
I'm just kidding, I don't want to see Favre get hurt, but I really do agree and just think he's an extrememly selfish and immature man which is sad to say since he is at the ripe old age of 39.

Seems like all of my friends and everyone else is hating on Favre on Facebook.
They act like he is committing a crime by being wishy washy with his decision on playing football. What he wants to do is his damn decision. Some act like what he is doing is the worst thing to happen to the NFL in years and he should be ashamed.
For what? Wanting to still play? Not sure if he is done or not?
If he wants to play and has the ability to play (which we know he does), then let the man be. The NFL and other professional leagues have worse problems.

I know some are pissed about Favre coming back, but think about it. He is better(even as an older player) than ANYTHING the Vikes have at QB. That offense has 3 WR's, 1 TE, and 1RB that have been wasted from shitty QB play.
That offense just got a major upgrade.
If you have a Viking player on offense(especially Peterson)stats should go up. Peterson did great last year even when defenses were stacking up against the run because they had no passer. Now the defense has to back off. Peterson can get crazy numbers and the receivers(including TE) become threats.

was about the 24th best QB in the league last year.. blew it for his team again in the end and always gets a free pass. Hang em up Favre, everyone's tired of this bs year after year. Had 6 or 7 good years in his career and 9 of the last 10 have been mediocre; always ruins it in the end, has a terrible playoff record. Last 5 games last year were embarrassing. Looks like another 18 TD and 20-24 INT performance to be expected. Keep ruining that legacy.

Brett Favre's passer rating last season was 81.0. Minnesota's QB's rated 81.5.
Sure, I'd take him over Tarvaris Jackson. Maybe not Sage Rosenfels. Either way, this isn't the monster upgrade it's being made out to be.

Yes. Look at the combined stats of tavaris jackson and frerotte last year. Better than Favre's. Two QBs presumably worse than Favre put up better combined stats, and they have Rosenfels now who has always been an above average backup who many viewed as ready to make the big leap to full time starter. He has led some great comebacks in his career and is 10 years younger than the interception king also known as Brett Favre.
Vikings season will go as follow with Favre as starter.. vikes start 6-2 with everyone calling for Favre as MVP. Vikes finish the season 2-6 in the last half and miss the playoffs because of Favre. He's detrimental to the team he plays for, has been for years at this point.

Just like last year, when he played for a team built on defense and a strong running game.

you think there were 23 QB's better than Farve last season?
Fave was 11th in Passing Yards
9th in TD's
21st in QB Rating
he did lead the NFL in picks
and had the 5th best completion percentage
his stats took a major hit in the last 5 games of the season because he injured his shoulder I believe if he can stay healthy he is still a top 15 QB in this league

Maybe I'm wrong. I just think having a threat of a deep pass(which the vikes didn't have last year) will help. LB's and safety's can't slam the running game with no fear of an over the top pass.
I could care less how many games they win. I just think the offense will have more options.

I picked him up off waivers just like I did last year, hours before his return became official. I have Tom Brady and Trent Edwards this year so I just got him in just in case...but last year I started him about half the games and I'll just say I was happier than he was when he went nuts and had that 6 TD game lol but I never was too sure about starting him due to consistency issues

I am happy that Favre's interception-throwing, teammate blaming, indecisively gambling, old ass is back.
The season just wouldn't be the same without him.
So what if a cloud of dust explodes from his pores everytime he is sacked. he is a bonafide legend.
He worked hard to build that legend and should have every right to tear that status right back down.
