View Full Version : Info on Power Outage- From the state
Power outage (http://gameday.thestateonline.com/?p=1613)
October 3rd, 2009 I’m aware that the game hasn’t been on ESPN Classic yet. Here’s what I’ve been told by USC sports information director Steve Fink.
The power outage was here in the stadium, and SCE&G has been working on it. It happened before kickoff, in fact during the invocation, when the microphone went off.
As of about 7:30 p.m., the power had gone back on. But the television crew thought it was still going to be 30 minutes once the power went back on that it would be able to get the game on the air.
Those are all the details I have right now. I’ll pass on any more as I get them.

It sounds as if the power to the stadium has been restored- the game is being played, radio guys are on air from the stadium.

radio never went off air... must be a different power source for radio, scoreboard, lights, etc., than the TV crew gets

It wasn't a total power loss at the stadium. Just partial at certain areas.

ESPN is prolly like 'WOW, we are getting really good ratings in SC for the Vandy- Ole Miss game. I guess we should leave it on"

The game was always playing. Just not on ESPN Classic. They keep reporting technical difficulties. We are listening to it on the radio. Dont know if it will be back on TV or not. SUCKS!

*** New Info*****
Power outage update (http://gameday.thestateonline.com/?p=1616)
October 3rd, 2009 If the estimate provided is right, the game should be coming on ESPN Classic at any minute now. (I’m writing this a little after 8 p.m.)
Because of the outage, one-third of Williams-Brice Stadium is out of power. Mostly the north side.
The effects are being felt in the press box. The air conditioning has stopped working, which means I might be sweating on the keyboard soon. And the elevators are going to be out, meaning that we all have some LONG walks to the postgame press conference.
Meanwhile, there’s a power outage on the field too: 4:23 left in the first half, and only one field goal between the two teams.

I complained about the AD having a faulty replay board and while that is right; last nite it was a simple power outage and nobody's fault....stuff happens, and we need to react to it by buying a generator to at least patch thru video to EXPN so that we can fulfill our contract and provide a service to the fans. That may not be possible since so may locations probably require power...but it should be studied NOW.
Remind me how much damn money the AD has brought in at the expense of 1/3 of the GC
