Tropics Watch: Daily map analysis (http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/tropics-watch-hurricane-season-2011_2011-07-06) TROPICAL STORM IRENE * Tropical Storm Irene made landfall near Punta Santiago, Puerto Rico at 1:25 am Monday. * Irene has top winds of 70 mph. * Irene is located 35 miles southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico and is moving west-northwest at 15 miles per hour. * Irene should weaken some due to crossing Puerto Rico, but could be close to a minimal hurricane as it moves into the eastern Dominican...

At least it won't get worse than a Cat. 1 hurricane when it makes landfall. Maybe it will stay at TS strength the whole time, or weaken to a depression.

I don't know about that...AccuWeather seems to think it's going to be peaking in strength as it makes landfall.

My sister lives in Statesboro, GA & my brother lives in Mount Pleasant so I've been keeping an eye (no pun intended) on this one...have my best hopes going toward all in that blue cone though, be safe!

Well looks like the track has changed since I saw it last. Looks like I better get ready to stock up for a hurricane party.

Dang it, I just realized my other thread was deleted....

anyways, we have a system Southeast of Florida by the name of Irene.

The projected path takes is
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT09/refresh/AL0911W5_NL_sm2+gif/085712W5_NL_sm.gif

which is especially important to me because it has it making landfall not too far from where I am.. but as we all know these things change so just keep a vigilant eye on the hurricane to the south.. and no I don't mean The "|__|" lol.

We need a cocky bookie bet on where she blows.

Imathankin she wobbles, heads for NC outerbanks.

Agreed. Why NOAA does the same thing every single storm puzzles me. 1st tracking for Jax, now Chas, tonight it'll be MyrBch, tomorrow Outer Banks.

lol, I would've never thought when making it, that my original thread from June would disappear never to be seen again..

Anyways, great. Now it's heading right towards me.. but luckily I'd be on the left side of the system rather than the front right quadrant(if the projection holds).

However, I foresee it strafing the SC coast (like Captain said) and heading for the Outer Banks like the majority of these storms do. Though, I don't know where the Bermuda High is currently located so it could hit where they are projecting. The Bermuda High is key in if a Hurricane or Storm hits the SC coast. i.e. When Hugo hit, the Bermuda High was abnormally to the left towards the coast which essentially guided the storm to Charleston.

Also, it's a very high possibility that this will effect my class schedule due to Evac's and weather days.

For whatever reason(just a theory of mine) I think once it's further out, they like to lock-on to cities in the path. Of course, if they think it'll land in a random spot then they'll project it.

A good bit of it is almost like mid-season projections for bowl games, in that it will change often due to variables.

Currently, my brother in law is on his Honeymoon in St. Thomas and they are stuck there. They were supposed to be back in the States yesterday but they won't be able to get out until Thursday. We just heard from them and they have no food or water because the water supply is now contaminated. As far as I know they are safe, but not a fun ending to the honeymoon.

Like I said this morning, it's now evening and tracking to Myrtle Beach. Tonight or tomorrow morning it'll be Outer Banks. Shouldn't be anything in SC more than a little breeze and rain.

If it does hit south carolina and hits charleston we are gonna have hugo part 2 but worse.

But luckily i'm in the midlands so we will only get heavy downpours and probably power outages

Luke Skycocker

We could sure use the rain, but we don't want anything to do with a hurricane

Metalrush24
08-22-2011, 06:04 PM
Seems that the Bermuda High isn't bearing down on the coast as possibly predicted. Landfall now a little above Charleston.

But basically.

They really have no clue where it's going to make landfall lol. Hopefully it will just go parallel to the coast, then we can get the rain without all the crazy stuff.

I've been saying right along my limit of staying is 2. We aren't too far from a marsh in Mt. P. So it's going to at least broadside us I guess as either a 2 or a 3. Awesome.

Are you sure? I saw earlier today that they expect it to take a north west turn. But i guess even with that turn it could still hit charleston.

Yeah I heard a Cat. 1 storm the other day, but I did hear the update today where the weather experts are thinking that it will strengthen possibly to a Cat. 3 storm before making landfall. They are saying the Carolinas look to be the target of landfall.

Now she is supposed to hit cat 4. The track has moved a bit east of me but landfall looks to be around Wilmington.

I hate to hear that. I was hoping it would just skirt the coasts and move back out to sea. This is going to be a strong storm so it will do some major damage wherever it makes landfall. Batten down the hatches!

The first dropsondes were deployed last night. That info was released this morning and will be seen in the 11:00 AM computer models. This will give us our most accurate trajectory yet.
