By midnight, you'll have Rosewood evacuated and the US Marshals looking for the thing

Spurticus

Spurt, you think that thing is sleeping in the trees or under AC's shed?

Not sure about the exact location, but I'd think it's still in the area
close by. They usually don't rome to far. If AC lives where I'm thinking
he lives, there are a lot of small marshy areas around there not too far
away. Idea for it to hide in and feed for a while. It might not have stayed
in his yard, but it's not far away.

Black rat snakes have a tiny set of rattlers they use to pretend they are a rattler. We had a 6 ft.one in our yard. A friend came and caught him. He lived in a huge glass cage in a 5th grade class. The teacher was holding it at a fund raising carnival. There was a parent that attempted to "pet" the snake from behind the teacher. The snake got him on the hand, drawing blood. That was one smart snake. The parent was a lawyer.
They aren't poisonous, but a local guy in Greenville got into his car and felt something grab his leg. A rat snake was wrapping around his leg. He had to cut off the snake's neck with pliers he had in his garage. It was on the local news about ten days ago.

Maybe it is only 15(ONLY 15?!!!). But that's at least 9' from its head down to the closest part to the ground. Then easily 6' back up and wrapped around the tree. I still think longer though. Unbelievable they didn't show this on the local news yet. I sent an email telling them how dangerous it was and it was definitely not a rat snake. They need to do something about it.

Hell he's not the only one. Little miss priss pitbulllady is a self-proclaimed expert on all things snake.

The snake is definitely a Black Rat Snake. It's NOT 20 feet long, or 12, probably more like five or six. That is not a very large tree it's climbing, either. I know from years and years of capturing snakes from people's property that people who are afraid of snakes tend to greatly exaggerate the size of any snake they see. That same 12-foot "python" miraculously shrinks to a four-foot Rat or Corn Snake when I show up. I have an African Rock Python, and a Retic, and this snake looks absolutely nothing like any python species. It's a harmless native Pantherophis obsoleta, aka Black Rat Snake. And yeah, I've got some of those, too. I have a Black Rat x Grey Rat "intergrade" that is over six feet long, which was captured in Lexington County. This snake is no threat to people or pets...unless your pet is a rat!

In states were these kinds of things are common, they have people who
will not question how big, or what kind of snake it is. They send someone
out to get rid of it. Here in SC we have "So Called Experts" who think they
know everything, and when someone calls them to come get a Python,
they assume you don't know near as much as they do, and you're just
exaggerating the size of the snake because you're scared of it. .. they
don't need to come look at it because it's impossible for a Python to

I hope it doesn't happen, but I know their expert opinions would be a lot

Has to be a boa or anaconda. We have anacondas in south Florida, not native to here but they were brought over as pets initially, got loose, made babies and now they thrive in the wild, mostly just around the Everglades areas though. That's crazy seeing that one in cola!

Looking at the video of the tree on the news it seems like the snake would be 7 to 8 feet. Not saying you're lying AC just that the tree looks a lot smaller on TV. Def not an anaconda, they're way thicker than that. Was thinking a retic at first, but the coloration looks Burmese. Red tailed boas are common pets, but that looks too long and the color is too dark. Whatever it is, it doesn't look like it has eaten for a while, considering how thin it is, and how it was actively climbing. AC, you should have NEVER taken your eyes off it until it was captured or killed. You need to know where that thing is! That snake could now be a deadly threat in an unsuspecting neighbors yard. It looks hungry considering the lack of bulging, and is big enough to take what it wants and it WILL kill something big

... and there are plenty of nearby objects to gain perspective. For one, the leaves on the tree the snake is climbing, they appear in the background and foreground. I can't tell you how large it is, but it definitely looks >10' IMO. I would hate to see the rat that satisfies that "Rat Snake". I can't find a picture of a rat snake that even closely resembles what you have.

This reminds me of that episode of Billy the Exterminator when he was called out to catch a large snake and he was saying it was probably corn snake... then he saw it... and it was definitely a Python. That thing was massive!

Fact is, the news got it, all my neigbors know about it, and that was the purpose...not to mention, people are wanting to remove it for free now. They are writing it off because they dont wanna alarm people. They'll pay attention when their rottweiler comes up missing.

If it is a boa that has been set loose it should be destroyed because a lot of these boas that get loose mate with other wild constrictors making a very aggressive snake with no natural predators that ruins the ecosystem. All of them need to be killed off. I only kill the posionous ones but these unnatural predators fall in the same category.

He used to be one of the larger breeders and made some serious money

There wasn't until a couple of hours ago... There is now though. I used to
post over there a lot, but only get over there about once a week now (if
that). It's mainly for Cornsnake owners, but they have some really good
herpetologists over there, as well as some of the best snake breeders in
the world. I sent Jeff the pics and the story, but I also posted a thread
over there about this to get a lot of the experts advise about what would
be the best direction to go from here.

Just looking around the net trying to find the longest snake in the US and I found this that says

The eastern indigo snake is the longest snake in the United
States (R. Hammer, Metro Dade Park and Recreation,
personal communication 1998), reaching lengths of up to
265 cm (Ashton and Ashton 1981).http://www.nwtf.org/NAWTMP/downloads/Literature/Eastern_Indigo_Snake.pdf

I did find that in a few other more unofficial places around the web people said the eastern indigo snake was the longest in the US and one source said 9 foot 2 inches was the longest. The 265 cm above equates to 8.69 feet.

The bottom line is if that snake is even 10 foot(and I take AC at his word that it's much bigger) and we're to believe it's native to this area then it's the biggest damn snake in the country.

Not to mention that I don't think it looks anything like an eastern indigo snake.

http://www.citruscounty-fl.com/reptile/indigo.jpg

So if it's a rat snake it would easily be the biggest recorded in history.

Now, I had a friend growing up that was really big into snakes. He and his friend had all kinds of pythons, boas, cornsnakes, even had a couple albino California kings. We used to go fishing a lot and we would come across wild snakes and 99% of the time it was either a water snake or a rat snake. Most of the rat snakes were really black like the one I posted many pages ago in this thread. But I do remember seeing a rat snake one time that was dark brown and it did have a similar pattern. But it was also a 5 to 6 foot snake. And I do know that pythons can have different shades and snakes also look different when they are about to shed their skin.

WOW

Between work, and staying up on the conversation in this thread, I
completely forgot that AC sent me some pics of this thing this morning
when I first saw his thread !

I put them on Photoshop, and lightened them up some to get a good
idea of the pattern. I don't know too much about imports, but from what
I've seen in the pics, and doing quick checks on the net, it looks more
like a Burmese Python. This snake is dark colored, but the pattern on it
from what I can see is more consistant with a Burmese than an African
Rock Pyton, or a Reticulated Python.

If you recall, I wasnt trying for notoriety.. I came here first to ask YOU about this snake, because I knew you had real knowledge. By the way, I mentioned you to CNN and FOX news, and WIS on the second interview they did with me. But fact is, I wouldnt have gone to the news if you and CL didnt tell me to do that. Wasnt looking for fame, just for someone to help me with this issue.
Its gotten pretty out of hand now. News stations in Texas and California are calling me at home. Sigh. I just want this thing gone.

Everyone is asking me why didnt I keep my eyes on it. Its because my cell phone is with ATT and they have crappy coverage at my house. So I had to go to the front of the house and call CPD and anyone else that would listen, to come out here and get this thing. No one did, until I called WIS.

Frankly, Im tired of everyone calling my integrity into check. I took the pics with my iphone, its what i had on me....nothing more. Hell, I cant photo shop, I had YOU SPURT do my photoshop of my Avatar....
Just getting tired of everyone calling me a liar or I am sensationalizing something. If you would have come to my house to look for it, I would never have called the news. I dont care about the 15 mins of fame, and thats why I started this post my friend, to ask for help.

Not fussing at you Spurt, just getting frustrated that everyone thinks its a twig of a tree its on, and the snake is 6 feet long. Whatever.....

I believe you!
Thats no black snake...when it hurts or kills something some agencies will have a lot of explaining to do is to why they were to lazy to send someone out to investigate.
