The sad thing is that if your neighbors have not taken the dog in the past two nights, and there is the possibility that it did get eaten by that monster, then, and only then, will the alphabet soup of agencies actually care and try to get rid of it.

If you haven't read the comments section of WIS, here's my summary.
I am a wildlife bio-toxicologist specializing in snake-related psychosomatic disorders of the jaw, mouth, fangs, and thorax. I own over 500 pythons, in fact one is sitting in my lap right now, and have traveled to the wilds of Namibia on python-observation trips so that we can observe the mating habits of pythons in the wild. I have been on National Geographic channel over 30 times THIS WEEK alone discussing the nose-to-tail dimensions of rat snakes and I can tell you THAT snake is a RARE proto-python/black African king-snubnose rat hybrid, rare in Columbia (although one was captured in Lake Secession in 1985, approximately 3 days after the Live Aid concerts) and I am an EXPERT at these species, I would gladly volunteer to take this snake off his hands and put it in my collection, DO NOT DISTURB IT, if you offer it six-day-old stale Froot Loops, it will be friendly to humans but ONLY between the hours of 12:15 and 12:45 AM and only during the molting season of its primary prey. Now, has anyone contacted Dr. Swamipravagadah Singh of the Indian University for Reptile Social Science Research and Snakeology? He has just published a very informative paper on the breeding habits of this particular hybrid and I am sure he would fly in from Delhi in order to take photos. At Mr. Philson's cost, of course. And if he's not willing to pay the cost, then he obvously doesn't care about the safety of his child.

I actually have a theory regarding how this snake could be a black rat snake.
Ya see, the record length for a black rat snake is 101 inches as we are all aware. Now then I propose that three of these record length black rat snakes were all chillin' by AC's house eating rats and stuff.
As the day grew long, one of the record length black rat snakes grew a little greedy. He thought to himself, "Hey these rats aren't as filling as they used to be. Perhaps I should start eating snakes instead." So he cast his beady little eyes upon record length black rat snake number two.
With snake-like reflexes, he struck out and swallowed the other record length black rat snake whole.
Well record length black rat snake number three witnessed the incident and found it rather rude. And since record length black rat snake number three is a firm believer in eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, he decided that the only way to bring justice to record length black rat snake number one was to swallow him whole as he did to record length black rat snake number two.
With a bit of effort and determination, record length black rat snake number three ate record length black rat snake number one who had previously eaten record length black rat snake number two. So this meant that record length black rat snake number three, who was previously 101 inches long, had now tripled his length due to now having two other record length black rat snakes in his belly. This now made him 303 inches or just over 25 feet.
As the day wore on, he decided to climb a nearby tree to help with his digestion. Then suddenly some shaggy haired dude showed up to snap pictures. "Damn paparazzi," thought record length black rat snake number three. So rather than stick around and let himself get pinched for the double murder of his best friends, he decided to go on the lam and flee to a safe house in Juarez, Mexico until the heat dies down.
So I'd say he should be slithering SSW through Cayce right about now.

My trusted intel source from the G-2 in the Pentagon who will henceforth be identified by his alias, Rusty Shackleford, reports that he reviewed the satellite surveillance footage of CPT Philson's house when he discovered that record length black rat snake number three and record length black rat snake number two were actually brothers.
He goes on to say that just before swallowing record length black rat snake number one, record length black rat snake number three was heard saying, "You dirty rat snake, you killed my brother."

I would be intrested to see you hold a tape measure from the branch at the snakes head all the way to the ground.
It looks as if the picture chops off about 2-3' above the ground. The snake (if stretched out straight) would appear to be about the same length as from the ground to that branch. The snake may even be a foot longer than that distance.

More like 4 or 5 ft. His head is right above where it looks to be the tail. And you still can't see the tail because its on the other side.

Lots more than a foot or two !
There would be a couple or more feet from that distance (if measured)
due "slack" from the snake curling it's body that can be seen.. However,
That snakes lower part curls back behind the tree, and if you look, it
is running back "UP" on the back side of the tree, and the tail end apears
again in the picture just under the snakes upper half and curls back around
the tree again (hold on with it's tail) basically the snake is crawling back
up over it's tail that is supporting it around the tree. Measuring the
distance from the head to the part where the snake curls back, and then
accounting for the "visible slack" you would then need to almost double
that length to account for the part behind the tree you can't see.

As far as the length, the damn snake is waaaay longer than the height of that shed, which is presumably designed for a modern human being to be able to stand in. That's about all I need to know.
You can not tell from the picture how far away the tree is from the building. Also, the picture was took from lower than the snake. It is all about depth perception. Yours is easily fooled.

If you watch the wistv.com video you can see where the snake is coiled around the tree in the first picture we saw and it seems to be about a 4 foot section. Look where the head of the snake is near that patch of a few branches and then follow the tree to the bottom of the snake where there is a slight bend in the tree. On the video they are zoomed out and you can get a better idea of the size of the section of the tree.
The snake is not as big as I originally thought. I was thinking over 20 feet and as big around as a 2liter. However, I do believe AC when he says the head is as big as his fist and it's at least 15 feet long. Even if he's way off and it's 11 feet that's longer than any wild snake that lives in the US. And the most important thing is why would a cop and military and trusted member of CT lie and waste the time of authorities? He wouldn't. So if that some how ends up a rat snake, it's the biggest damn rat snake ever in the ultraverse and easy to understand how folks would think it's something else.

This DNR so called expert must be an idiot...
So here's the thing...Met Jack Kuenzie, super nice guy people, he really is, and very professional. Felt very at ease talking to him.
But, when Jack drove up, the DNR State Herpatologist called, name is Steve Bennett. He says he is the #1 guy in the state for snakes. Also works DNR...my first question is, 1) DNR told me on the phone they dont snakes. So if they dont DO snakes, how is he the State's Authority on snakes???
Im guessing, he is trying to debunk my story as much as he can. He insisted that I am just the average citizen, prone to freaking out when they see a 6 foot snake. I told him I was a Trooper, and have seen a lot of bad things, and have experience testifying in court, so I dont "freak out" at stuff like this...I dont exagerrate, I say what I saw. Anyway, whatever..
I see what he is saying, because the average person who isnt used to abnormal situations will tend to exagerrate. I am not that guy. Even Jack Kuenze said I didnt seem like the guy that panics and exagerrates. I said, look, I took the photos with my iphone, snake was moving, I did not try to embelish anything, just tried to get decent shots of it. But the DNR guy, apparently he is the absolute authority on all snakes, and insists on two things.
1) Its a black rat snake.
2) Its no bigger than 6-7 feet long roughly...
Again, whatever....I saw the damn thing, and if its 6-7 feet long, Ill bend over and kiss my own ass on TV if they catch the damn thing.
Interview was good, did some comparison photos, and like I told everyone, the smaller tree was about the size of my wrist, and the one next to it about the size of my forearms/biceps. Snake was on both trees.

I know what people are saying without having looked at anything other
than the dark picture from the Cell phones, and without having to get off
their asses and come do come searching to at least prove THEY'RE RIGHT
and everyone else is wrong. But from someone who has Seen, caught,
and took pictures of Black Rat Snakes since I was in my early childhood,
I can say without a doubt, that is not a Rat Snake.
(this post is long an boaring so be warned)
Along with being Fascinated with Snakes all my life, I've read and studied
about domestic snakes since I was school age, and have continued to do
so through my adult life to present. I'm speaking here from that knowledge
gained, and not as an "Expert" of any kind.
The Genus Elephe (Rat Snakes) make up the largest species of snakes
in the world. They are found on every continent on the planet (save
Antarctica), and AT LEAST one species can be found in pretty much
every country in the world. .. They usually range within a certain "region"
even in the individual countries/States.
In the South Eastern US, there are several different species of Rat Snakes
according the the climate of each of the S/E states. And it's common to
find two or more sub species of Rat Snakes in an area. In the State of
SC, we have 3 (AND ONLY THREE) species of Rat Snakes. There is another
Sub Species found in the Northwester half of GA, and into all of Alabama
and points south and west. These 4 breeds of Rat Snakes in this area are:
Elephe Guttata (Red Rat snake..aka: Corn Snake) That is found pretty
much over the whole Southeast, and throughout the entire state of SC.
In SC, there is also Elephe Obsoleta Obsoleta (Black Rat snake...aka:
Black Snake or Chicken Snake). And there is also Elephe Obsoleta
Quadrivittata (Yellow Rat Snake... aka: Chicken Snake also). And Elephe
Obsoleta Spiloides (Gray Rat Snake.. Not in SC anywhere)
**(no I didn't look that up, I have leaned that over several years of
reading about Rat Snakes)**
The Yellow Rat snake in SC, is (ONLY FOUND) in the Coastal Region here.
Basically from just below Orangeburg, south all the way to the Coast, and
down to the lower southern tip of the State.
Elephe Obsoleta (Black Rat Snake) is not found anywhere in the state
below the midlands and into the northern part of Orangeburg up. So in
this area (midlands..includes the City of Columbia), there are only two
breeds of Rat Snakes that will Ever be found here. Black Rats, and Red
Rats. ... Corn Snakes (Red Rats) can be ruled out in this photo. So IF
it is a Rat Snake, it has to be a Black Rat Snake. (HAS TO BE).
THIS I KNOW:
All breeds of Rat Snakes in this area and in close proximity (GA, NC, FLA)
have almost identical "saddle" markings at birth, and with the Exception
of the Corn Snake, All are very nearly the identical Color at birth. They
all look similar to the Gray Rat snake Which keeps its color and standard
"Saddle" markings through its life. All other breeds of Rats however, Change
or Morph Color and makings as they grow and shed. The Black Rat
Snake and the Everglades Rat Snake (Southern Fla only) will change
color and he pattern will stay the same, but fade as it matures. Some
will completely lose the makings, and some will have "Ghost" makings
but will be barely visible, through their entire lives. The majority will
lose the markings. .... Yellow Rat Snakes will change both Color AND
pattern quickly. The Saddle Markings will spread with each Shed, and
will eventually Split within the first year / year and Half, to form the
Lengthwise stripes. The color will change from Grayish / Silver Dominent
color at birth, to a yellow or light Olive color (here in SC).
All the above is normal, and Factual information that can be found recorded
by any material on Rat Snakes and verified by Zoologist and Herpetologist
all over the world for hundreds of years.
The Black Rat (which This would HAVE TO BE) if it is a Rat Snake, will
either lose it's pattern as it grows, or it will have barely visible markings
as it matures, but certain facts about the changing of Black Rats from
Juveniles to Mature adults is without argument. They will change from
Gray/Silver as the ground color of their skin, to a very dark, or Jet
Black Dominent Color within a year or two (markings visible or not).
The Snake in these Pictures below are not anywhere near the ground
color that a mature Black Rat Snake will be. Argue Size all you want to
but whether it's 7 feet, or 20 feet. Even at 6 or 7 feet, that is an Old
Fully mature Black Rat Snake that will be Very dark Black whether it
still bears the juvenile markins or not. This snake has a light tan or
Brownish Ground Color with a Distinct Pattern still showing. Not what
you'd see in a Full grown Black Rat Snake.

Their basing that off data obtained from previous encounters(i.e. just taking how big the biggest black rat they know of).. there's no way they can say it's not a certain length from a picture or pictures.. or rather, it's unlikely
