DNR and the Zoo have not had anything to do with me. Steve Bennett called me today, and tried to explain to me how I over reacted....whatever. When I saw his fat ass on the news, all I could do was laugh. This guy calls himself a professional? And he slouches in his chair to do a TV Interview? Really?

Not afraid of the snake. I dont want it killed. I want it captured and put somewhere, where people can marvel at how big the mofo is. But alas, I am wrong, Fat Ass Bennett is right, its only a 6 foot Black Rat Snake...this coming from the guy that wont even come out here.

animal or car or person approaches and kink up like that. As if they think
"if I don't move, they can't see me" .... That is a way to tell a Rat Snake
from a Black Racer or Dark Colored King Snake from a distance. A King or
Racer will take off quickly when they feel the vibrations of an approaching
"potential" preditor....Rat Snakes (ALL RAT SNAKES) will kink up and freeze
when they think they're in Danger..... There is no Kinking on that body

of that snake in ACs Picks. The only kinking visible in any of those, is

All snakes will do that when they are supporting the weight on a branch
or limb.

Just now catching up on the latest posts in this thread, but with the
Videos posted, and the comments made here, it has jogged my memory
and now I'm thinking that I may have a whole new line of ID'ing that
might account for the "various and different" opinions of myself and
the "Experts" ... I remember something that might be called Common
Ground here:

When I posted the explaination of why this Can't be a Black Rat snake,
part of the reason was that Black Rats were not found south and South
east of the Midlands Down to the coast, and Yellow Rats were not
found in the state North and Northeast of the midlands. ... The Distribution
maps for these two snakes merge just above the line around Orangeburg
and extends Northeast and Southwest from there across SC.
So a line several miles above and below that line is a "Gray Area" where
you would commonly find Interbreeds of Yellow and Black Rat snakes as
well as those breeds that cross breed with Red Rats (Corn Snakes). All
of these species will breed with each other being from the genus Elephe,
and the offspring will bear the makings of the dominant gened snake of
the two breeding. The Red Rat snake is almost always the Dominant
gene so most of the time when a Corn Snake breeds with a Yellow, Black
or Gray Rat snake, the majority of offspring will look almost entirely like
Corn Snakes ..... But there is another line I had forgotten about until I
saw these posts. It very Rarely happens, but at times, you can have
Rat snakes that will Cross breed with a couple of other species of
non-venomous snakes, and what you get are Hybrid Snakes. People who
breed snakes for sale, have successfully bred Corns and King Snakes
to get a rare breed of snake called a JUNGLE RAT snake...and Corns have
also been successfully been bred with Pine Snakes and Gopher Snakes
and the result is what they call "TURBO CORNS" ... these Hybrids are not
Technically Rat Snakes, or Corn Snakes, but they call them that because
the Rat Snake is the more Dominant gene and the offspring of those rare
breeds look more like "Rat Snakes / Corn Snakes On Steroids" .. They are
much Thicker, usually longer and more "Robust" than the normal Red, Black,
Yellow Rat snakes. .... Looking at the Picture again, and seeing how
someone would say it was a Rat Snake, and my reasoning about the
Size and color ruling it out as a Rat snake may have been partially right
on both ends. It is entirely possible that this is a inter breed between
(IMO) a Black Rat and an Eastern King snake...A wild Hybrid snake or
Jungle Rat snake. It's rare for Kings and Rat snakes to cross breed
because more times than not, the King snake will eat Rat Snakes, and
about any other species of snake in its area if it is hungry and another
food source is not available, yet as mentioned, they have bred these
snakes successfully and the result of the Corn Snake/King Snake union
looks very similar to the snake in both ACs photos as well as the
YouTube Video above (The Giant Black Rat Snake)... That would account
for the lighter Color, still very visible markings and the monsterous
Girth and length. I have not heard of any of the Hybrids getting that long
but in the wild with a good food source and a good hiding area, it's
possible for it to live a long life, and get a lot bigger than it would
in Captivity. ... If this is the case here (and I feel strongly that it is),
this is "technically" still not a Rat Snake, but is what has been tagged
as A JUNGLE RAT SNAKE.

Even if it is a Hybrid (which I VERY stongly feel like it is), it would still be one of the biggest (maybe THE biggest) one on
record in the US. The snake in that photo is in excess of 10'. I'd bet the farm on that. I've seen a couple of Jungle Rats
and Turbo Corns, and to me they are ugly breeds of snakes. I always got a mental image of Frankensnake when I saw
them. There are however some people who love them, and pay huge amount of money for them. .. the reason there aren't
a lot more of them (wild or captive), is because it is near impossible to isolate the gene by breeding male and female hybrids
to get "Pure Hybrid" breeds. The parents would bear the Gene of the more dominant gene of their parents, so breeding
Hybrids usually results in those offspring reverting back to a snake that looks more like the usual "GrandParent" or the Rat
Snake. Even when breeders try to mate siblings or Parent to siblings

Rat Snake. ... That "kinkyness" of the BRS body that is very visible is
a normal reaction you see in ALL Rat snakes. They will stop when a bigger
animal or car or person approaches and kink up like that. As if they think
"if I don't move, they can't see me" .... That is a way to tell a Rat Snake
from a Black Racer or Dark Colored King Snake from a distance. A King or
Racer will take off quickly when they feel the vibrations of an approaching
