Matt C was the last TE that saw any semblance of participation beyond being a fifth lineman

You need to add Chris Corley to the list. He was on the 1984 team.

EXCELLENT idea for a poll, hoskins. i tried to do something similar a while back on theinsiders board but it never got off the ground.

Jay Saldi should win this poll. Also went on to play TE in the pros and was well know player for the Cowboys in the 70's late 80's? maybe. Is Matt C still at the TE position?

How about Trafford? Wasn't he involved in two game winning plays?

I guess I'm young, but I've never heard of any of those guys.

I went with Willie Scott. I never saw him play in person, but i've got a video with some of his highlights(Gamecock Glory:The 1980's). He was a great receiver. I don't think we've had a receiving TE like him since. :football:

I voted for Willie Scott. By far the best TE the cocks have ever had. He had all the tools. He also had some big catches durung his time at USC.

this poll I agree with thus far. I did like Matt Campbell also.

I just don't remember Willie Scott for some reason. I guess I am too young. I can tell you though we have not had a decent TE or used one decently in two decades. Miami for instance has had about 5 super duper TEs in that span that everyone on this board has heard of. I bet a fan from another team could not name one TE from USC.

I had a tough debate between Scott and Campbell. I guess it isn't that close to everyone though. I ended up voting Scott but am shocked at the difference between the two.

I think Hart had one too many drops during his last couple of years to be considered in this poll. Just because they played more recently doesn't make them better...Willie Scott is by far the best TE we've ever had..ask anyone who has been a fan long enough to remember him.

holla..

No contest...Willie Scott. Not only did he have great hands, size and speed but he could block. I'll never forget Willie shutting down Hugh Green from Pitt in the bowl game. I think Hugh Green came in second for the Heisman voting as a DE that year.

Some of you guys kill me. A TE catches 2 passes and makes a block and you vote him the best ever at the position.

Willie Scott is the best we ever had. Here's a brief recap:

He was 4 year letterman at TE at Carolina.Played in the East West Shrine game. Was a first round draft choice(#14 overall). He was an NFL star, not just a player. He's also in the USC Hall of Fame.

Sorry but no one else is even close.

Willie Scott was a first round draft pick. There is no doubt he was the best.

To me it's a toss-up between Marty Woolbright and Willie Scott.

No doubt and bar none......it's got to be Willie Scott.

I mean he was a 1st round NFL draft pick.

There really shouldn't be any other choice with this IMO.

I don't see how it could be Saldi, he barely caught a pass at Carolina. I think it was Scott but why isn't J.R. Wilburn in the poll? He finished Carolina in the mid 60s so most people on hear don't remember him but he had a good career here and played a few years with the Stellers when they really sucked.
