Which team, regardless of sport, is the best team USC has ever fielded? Back up your responses.

i went with the '70 bball team... although i wasn't alive back then, according to my dad that team was the best in america and probably would have gone all the way if not for a double-overtime upset in the acc tourney at the hands of nc state. (as you know, only the conference champs went to the ncaa tourney in those days.)

What about our actual National Title in woman's track and field?

On that list, baseball was my first instinct, but the 97 basketball team is really impressive. Friggin Coppin State....oh yeah, friggin Navy.

I only put the big three. That's why I added "other" in case someone had a strong argument for a non-revenue sport.

It was a hard pick between '02 basball & '84 football.

In the end I picked 02-baseball. Final in the CWS is hard to beat.

Also - Soccer team went to NCAA the finals in early 90's on year.

I say our national runner up baseball team! We had alot of solid kids on that team!!!

1997 BB team. Beating Ky 2 times. That was some of the best BB ever at SC. Until the tournament that is.

MDCOX, CH and I were at that game. It was something special. Just being there, it was just incredible.

I really think our '70 bball team is the best team we've ever had for the exact reasons mickeyrivers points out...I wasnt alive but from what my dad told me about that team we were incredible and its true nothin but a double overtime loss held carolina back from a real chance at winning the big dance but...

I went with the '97 bball team...beating kentucky twice is a feat in itself....and didnt we start off like 1-4 or 1-5...we had one hell of a team there for a few years...we just choked when it was really really bad to do it, in the first round (richmond and coppin state...it still gets to me....)

Rob, khosk and I were at the '97 home game against UK. It is the best basketball game I have ever been too. Then, when we beat them at home on senior day, the fans started throwing stuff onto the court. Pitino had to get on the mic and tell them to show some class. It was awesome.

i see that the '02 baseball team is winning right now...

IMO, the '00 team that didn't make it to Omaha was head and shoulders above the '02 squad, and many consider them the best that we've ever had in baseball...

'02 Yardcocks definitely get my vote. Not only were they Nat'l runner up's @ the CWS, but they were also reg season SEC Champs. Tough to top that.

Went with 1970 basketball team. Under today's tournament would have been a final four team with a good chance to win it all. It had great shooter, dominant inside game, hall of fame coaching and attiitude. If it was for football would go with 1987 team as their talent level was best we have ever had. 1984 was good but schedule played in there favor.

'84 Football team....They were a group of young men who were destined for nowhere. They had no one outstanding player. They united as a team both offensively and defensively. They proved a lot of people wrong.

2001 football team might be tied with natl runner up baseball team. Those other teams were good, but the competition level now is so much better. If you suceed in today's times then you are doing something really good.

I think the 84 football team. Football is the sport everyone follows around here and any time you can beat Florida St, Notre Dame, and Clempson in the same season you know you've got a good team. If it weren't for the Navy loss, that might have been a NC team.

My first instinct is the 02 Baseball team, but I think I would write in the 05 Equestrian team or Women's Track and Field. Those other teams are outstanding, but its your level of success at the opportune times that determine your place in history. National Titles are hard to argue against. I'm not going to lie, I don't know how the level the playing field is in College Equestrian, but they were the top team at the end of it all and thats all that should matter.

I voted for the 2000 football team because I have and probably never will see moments like we had in that season. I was at the Miss. St. when Kimrey threw the fade... it was so unbelievable. That team played with more heart than any I have ever seen.

In basketball, name any SC team that had players better than Roche, Ribock, Owens, Aydlett and Kevin Joyce on the floor at the same time--1970-71, the best!!.
Football, 1984 and all the wins they had were the best ever at SC.
Hmmm, Baseball........beating CU twice on the way to a #2 ranking..........hard to beat that too.

This one was a tough pick for the single best team, but I went with the 1984 Football team. I saw all the home games that year, and this was a team that wasn't supposed to do that much according to the experts. We had some good players, but the Chemistry of that team was Ulta Fantastic. The 87 team was probably the best talent wise we've ever put on the field, and that was probably the toughest schedule we've ever played start to finish. The Clemson game that year, was one of my top 5 best games I've seen. The 1969 Team was a great unit too. Suggs, Ziglier, Hogens, Holloman, Muir etc..... Good team!!!

In basketball, this was an excellent starting lineup indeed you mentioned buzz, but I think the 68-69 team was probably the best starting unit the Gamecocks have ever put on the court. Owens, Reebock, Riker, Cremins and Roche played great together, and knew where each other were all the time. Wish we could get a starting unit with that kind of chemistry again.

And as for Baseball, the 2002 National Runner up team has got to be the hands down winner. I'm convinced that had we played a "Series Playoff System" that year, we're National Champions. Having to play Clemson two tough consecitive games the way we did to get into that Championship game with Texas took way too much out of us to have to Beat The Longhorns twice to win it all. Still we hung in there with them, and almost pulled it off.

I voted for the national runner up in baseball. All though I think the runner up baseball team for I think it was 75 was pretty good too. We have had many special moments. It is also hard to argue against the 71 basketball team or the 84 football team. But, the trip to Omaha after loosing the first game was a great ride. Hopefully we will do that again in the next few years!!! GO COCKS!!!

Man that defense maybe the best we have ever fielded. My favorite game that year was our "home"game at weak forest.Stadium was full of Gamecocks in the seats and standing in the endzones with the band.

A weak forest fan made a throwing motion to me and my wife as he was leaving and said "Heres the keys make sure to lock up when your done."

That was a great fun weekend.

I'm sure this will bring out the requisite "old as the hills" rhetoric, but for anyone old enough to have actually seen all these great teams, the answer is a no-brainer.

Cover of Sports Illustrated. Nuff said.

For those of you not around, it cannot be explained. You had to be there.

You guys got to be crazy debating this. I would think 85% of us or more consider football "THE" sport. In 1984, we were ranked #2 in the country. So that is the best team.

Baseball and Basketball are OK, but we all know what is REALLY important in Columbia.

Dude I realize that. But who do you find yourself rooting for more? Let's be serious. We can fill 80,000 + fans in the stands when we have an 0-11 season and not even 5,000 for a College WS team.

I love baseball, trust me. But when it comes to best ever team, I got to go with college football. It is the most followed and the most respected!!

Yeah, but the question was not what is your all-time favorite Gamecock team. The Question is Which is the best USC team ever. I agree football is huge and I would pick football over baseball, but I think that baseball team is the best USC team ever. Now, I can see you picking that 84 football team because they were great, but not because the reasoning is you like football better.

The sarge only seats 5k and it fills up season long, if we had 15k or even 80k (ok maybe not 80 you'd never see the ball with that many.) the people would be there for it because it is Gamecock Baseball. So the fans do love their baseball as much as their football. But in a poll of the best USC team you have to go with the team that has been the most successful. Baseball has been the most consistant program that we have at USC. Though the Lady Gamecocks have brought home Nat. Champs in two sports (Go EQ, Gotta love a girl in a habit) we are a baseball powerhouse. Until SOS brings home the SEC this year, it will be this way.

The 70 team could have won it all but for some home cooking in the EZZ tourney. Whats new, huh? That team had great talent top to bottom!

The 84 football team was the most exciting team ever. They weren't loaded with talent, but they found a way to win. Gotta love and admire them.
