View Full Version : A true blackout

cockysousa

One of my buddies came up with a great idea that I think is very much worth a try. At one of our night games, we should have a blackout, and just before the video preceeding "2001," we kill the lights. Now I understand that the lights might take awhile to turn back on, so we could arrange something like the Colonial Center has for basketball games, where flaps come down over the lights to darken the arena. For those who are superstitious, we don't even have to have a blackout. I just thought that would add to the effect. What do you think?

The Dude

IF that were to ever happen, I think the best way to do it would be to "kill" the lights (whether it be flaps or whatever) right before 2001 starts playing, and then at the first crescendo, light up the stadium and continue going from there....THAT would be awesome!

I have to agree with you there . . .that would be a SWEET ! ! ! Idea . . especially with the first light that comes back on is the Video boards playing the intro . . . very intimidating ! !

how about suggesting this to the Athletic Department

damn...thats a good idea.

Imagine the camera flashes and video all over the stadium; strobes and smoke where our players come out. HOLY crap i got goosebumps.

Then we will have HANDS DOWN the best college football entry.

I like the idea.....

BUT....

alot of people are still walking into the stadium.... I dont know how safe this would be. In the Colonial center, there are lights on each step, and there arent NEARLY as many steps or people.

DAMN GOOD REASON FOR EVERYONE TO ALREADY BE SEATED!!!!!

dont be ridiculous......

if you really want to do this, you have to be realistic and reasonable about it. and the decision makers WOULD HAVE TO take this into consideration.

some lady falls when the lights go out, breaks her hip, has to be taken away in an ambulance.... then the University says "you cant sue us.. you should have been in your seat already, Sneez said so" ??

If you want to discuss an idea... lets discuss it without using arguments a child could refute.

Safety would be the #1 question, as it should be.

Understandable . . . I have been in the stadium at night with the lights off and I was able to see well enough to run down the bleachers while carrying my tuba. It wouldn't be pitch black, but it'd still have the effects of an eerie darkness.

80,000 people vs. a couple of hundred in a theater is the difference. Also the theater walkways are lit as well as at the Colonial Center. Would be great, but will never happen.

it wouldn't be bad, but there's no need to fix something that isn't broke, we all saw Tommy Bowden do that and he wound up breaking his coaching intelligence in half by taking maryweather out.

Wearing all black at night games and making it easier for a visiting QB to find his recievers dressed in white is pointless, but this idea is different.

why not have the ushers block off the entrances 2 minutes prior to 2001 to allow everyone to get to their seats, then allow people to start filing in again once the lights are back on after 2001 is finished. Would have a lot of complaints but would definitely make this idea more feasible.

Did you guys even read the thread? He's talking about an addition to the entrance, not a "blackout" in the sense that we all wear black. I think if they did implent it, they would have to light the concourses better, the tunnels, and I don't think they'd be able to kill all of the lights. They'd have to take down maybe 3/4's or something. Way too much of a safety issue to go all dark.

Gamecock
12-02-2006, 01:35 AM
I remember the NFL's opening game either last year or the year before was in New England vs the Raiders and before the game they turned the lights down a little, or turned some of them off while Ozzy Osbourne was playing, but not the entire stadium. It looked like there was still plenty enough light left in the stadium to see clearly, but it was darker. Don't they usually cut the lights during superbowl halftime shows and that kind of thing? There has to be some way of doing it, but then again, this is comparing USC to the NFL. They've got a lot more money than we do.

If it were possible I don't think you'd want the lights to come on until the last part of 2001 when Cocky is usually unveiled.

I think the idea is.....:woo: , certified bada$$ McLovin. It's really sad that it is a safety issue and that people are not in their fricking seats by then! Just irks me how many people are just getting literally right before they're about to start. But why not just have Spurrier tell people the week before, get to your seats fifteen minutes before kick off or else you will not be allowed to after kick off cause we got something special or what not, kinda like they did with wearing Garnet on Gameday. Also have signs around the stadium that just say, please be in the stadium and REAR END IN SEAT before x time as well as have the student government get it out to the students furthermore. Sounds good to me!

gamecockfandrew
04-25-2008, 12:34 AM
Wow, this is an old topic. It wouldn't work unless there were small lights on the stairs of the stadium, and everyone who was in the portal had to stand still. To much of a chance of injury although it would be awesome to see. They could put red lights inside the portals and turn them on with lights on the stairs. If we were to do it, I would be seated an hour prior to kickoff, but it never will.

I think the blackout is a cool idea, in theory
but we nowe have too many bad memories of past blackouts, therefore...it wouldnt have the same "awesome" feeling...

Garnet-out would be great, but wouldnt happen for reasons previously mentioned...most importantly that people are too worried about dressing up in their fruity-colors than to wear their school colors.

It would be different if they were wearing Garnet Black or White thats fine. But some people go in pink yellow green and al kind of stupid colors. Its just a unity thing. Clemson fans wear the same color. Vols wear the same color. Most college crowds are solid colors.

Its just a matter of unity that believe it or not attracts a recurit or 2 a year.
