Just an idea guys, just wondering who would be interested in playing in a captains choice tourney( only Cockytalk members) We could post your handicap on here and plit into 3 to 4 man fair teams or a bring your own team. Just wanting to get some responses to see who would be interested... thanks,

this sounds like a pretty cool idea to me. I don't play golf a whole lot so I really don't have a handicap, if anything I would say mine would be in the 20's.
As far as money, it could potentially go to the site perhaps so CH, Khosk and others can upgrade even more or it could go to charity of some kind or even funds toward the facilities upgrade.

I'd be up for it. Happy, if your handicap is in the 20's you must play more than a little golf. The average golfer scores in the low 100's, generally around a 30 handicap.

if we decide to do it... maybe we can use average score to group people if we dont bring our own teams....
like,
79 and under (A player)
89 to 80 ( B player)
90 to 99 ( C player)
100 and above( D player)
just a thought...

I LOVE THE IDEA. MY HANDICAP IS A 9 RIGHT NOW, BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE A BETTER IDEA TO OPEN THE TOURNEY TO MORE THAN COCKYTALK MEMBERS. LIKE MAYBE SAY THAT THE CAPTAIN OR SOMEONE ON YOUR TEAM IS A MEMBER, B/C OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT NOT GET AS GOOD A SHOWOUT FOR IT. JUST AN IDEA BUT I LIKE IT

Depending on when and where I would be interested...I am about a 3-4 handicap...depending on the weather, I could recommend some places for you guys heading to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl as well!

I'm a hacker. On a good day I'd be a C player (95-100) but I'm usually right around the Century mark. Since I haven't had the pleasure of playing with any of you guys yet, I'd say just find out how many we'd have playing for sure, let everyone post thier average score, and someone divide up the teams. . . . . . .Let's do it !

Well I don't play a lot at all. I think I'm pretty decent but I just play a few times a year. I have shot in the 80's before but that was with loose rules like moving the ball out of bad lies and if I find my ball at the edge of the woods moving it out and stuff.
Right now I would probably be around 100. I haven't played since May. I've only played 3 or 4 times this year probably. I played a decent bit last summer and something seemed to click. Oh well...It does sound like a good idea.

haha...very funny...no golf shark here. I promise. I haven't played since my birthday and that was May. It's too expensive to play all the time.
But if anyone wants to give me money anyways, I'll take it. I could use some golf balls I'm sure.

i think the expensive nature of golf is the only reason why i never successfully got into it...
my best bud from sumter lives, breathes, eats, and sleeps golf...so i guess i just live my golf life vicariously through him haha
i guess my real reason for posting in this thread is, i'd LOVE to do something like this, but unfortunately i've never been the golfing type...

I'm in! I shoot in the 90's. Maybe we should check out a golf course near Columbia. (Since thats in the middle of the state) Even check out hotels near the course for some that may want to come in early and stay the weekend. Also I suggest maybe getting something up in the Spring. Playing golf in the cold is out for me.
Who is heading up this golf retreat?

Indian River is a great course! I say we see how much money we can raise for this and then decide what to do with the proceeds from there. We may be able to get a discount at one of the area courses with the premise that it's a fund raiser for the George Rogers foundation. Hidden Valley might would be another option....it's not nearly as nice as Indian River, but it may bode well for being able to net more profit to donate.

Indian River is a nice course. I don't live too far from there. I've played it once (not too well either), but still liked the course.
Anyone in this area might like Charwood too. Have played there a lot.
My vote though would be to play it somewhere between Upstate and Midlands. (Central Carolina - Stoney Point - Etc . . ) IMO

I would love to play. For me to participate though, it would have to be in the Fall or Winter. Work won't allow me to play in the Spring or Summer. I also would prefer assigned teams. Would make it a little more fair (IMHO). It would help keep anyone from "stacking" a team or bringing in a "ringer". Not that anyone here would do such a thing.

ha no i wasn't trying to be the grammar police or anything...actually i was recently corrected on it and never knew that it was incorrect to say that- until i looked it up and it was proven to me. it makes sense though i guess...it can't be "annual" until it's happened at least once. im far from an english teacher haha

I would like to do it if the entry fee isn't too much. I have recently decided to start playing and see how far I can take my golf game... by the end of the summer I want to have played in at least one Regions Cup tournament... right now I don't have an established handicap, but last time I played (last Thursday, May 1st) I shot an 82 at Mount Vintage from the black tees... A couple more times out and I should be shooting around 75 or so... and I hope to break par by mid-July.
ANYWAY, I'd love to have a tourney environment to play in... acclimate myself to a little pressure... I haven't had any pressure since high school baseball state tournaments. lawl.

This sounds like a great idea and it would be a good time to get many Cockytalk Fans together. We need to do this thing before it gets too hot or either sometime in the fall.
As far as a golf course to play on, this thing should be played somewhere in the middle of the state. I have played Charwood a couple of times and it is a fair course. I don't care where we play as long as it is convenient for everyone to get to.
I am a "Certified D Player". I did go and take lessons from a Golf Pro and his advice to me was this: "Take one more lesson and never play golf again"! I wonder what he meant????:golf: Count me in if y'all decide to do it! Cow pasture pool, what a great game!
