Seeding a South Carolina game on Bittorrent

Disclaimer: This is how I do it. There are certainly plenty of different ways. This is how I know to do it and it works perfectly, so here it is. I think it's very easy. Your mileage may vary.

This is a little more advanced than simply downloading a game through Bittorent. You should be comfortable using Bittorrent for downloading before attempting to seed your own torrent.

You'll need to do a few things before you start:

1) Download Software to create an ISO DVD image file(I recommend the FREEWARE LSO ISO Creator for Newbies. You can use Roxio or Nero or whatever software you may already have to accompish the same means.)

Download LSO ISO Creator (http://www.lucersoft.com/freeware.php)
Just unzip to any folder. No install is necessary.

2) Download and install a Bittorrent client (I recommend Bit Tornado for Newbies. You can also use uTorrent or whatever your favorite bittorrent client happens to be.)

Download Bit Tornado (http://www.bittornado.com/download.html)
Install Bit Tornado

3) Download and install Make Torrent

Download Make Torrent (http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/maketorrent/#dl)
Install Make torrent

(You can make torrents in utorrent if you wish.)

4) Register at sladinki007.net (This is the best tracker to use. Please use it! It's very dependable. Please don't use Demonoid. My server chokes on Demonoid torrents because they constatly go down.)

Register at sladinki.net (http://www.sladinki007.net/index.php?act=Reg&CODE=00)

======================
OK, once you've done those 4 things...

Let's get started!

1) Create an ISO of your DVD disk image

With LSO ISO Creator it's as simple as putting your dvd in your dvd-rom drive, selecting the letter of your dvd-rom drive and clicking "create iso image."

2) Create your torrent file

Start up Make torrent.

a) As you open MakeTorrent, you should see a window such as this:

b) Navigate to the folder and file that you want to create a Torrent of. For a single file, the "simple" view is sufficient. Highlight the target file(s).

c) If you are combining a number of files in a single folder, you might want to switch to "classic" view. Navigate to the folder you want to add, and keep the default setting for creating 1 Torrent per folder.

d) Choose Sladinki Tracker from the drop down tracker menu. Make sure you do this! If you don't select a good tarcker the torrent won't work.

e) Click "Create .torrent Now!" to compile your .torrent file. Save it.
Done! You've made a torrent file!

3) Start seeding your torrent

Before you upload your torrent to Sladinki, it must be seeded. Click on the torrent file and a dialouge will pop up to ask you where the files you want to seed are located. Choose the correct files for the torrent file you just made. A Bit Tornado window will pop up. Minimize this window. You'll see a Bit Tornado icon in your system tray. Leave this running in your system tray for as long as you want to seed your torrent. (You should plan on seeding your own releases at least one week!)

4) Upload your torrent to the tracker

Go to Sladinki forums (http://www.sladinki007.net/index.php?showforum=139). Make a post in the sports torrents forum. Attach the torrent that you just created to the post. Click on "add link to attachment to post." Boom! That's it. By simply making a post there with the torrent as an attachment, your torrent is now on a tracker.

5) Manual announce to the tracker that you are seeding

Look in your system tray for the Bit Tornado icon. Double click on it. Your Bit Tornado window will come back up. Click on Advanced. Click on Manual announce. Minimize your Bit Tornado window again. This step really isn't necessary if you're patient, you'll just have to wait up to an hour for the tracker to recognize you as a seeder if you don't do this step.

6) You need a place to host your torrent file. Upload your torrent to Torrentspy

Go to Torrentspy (http://www.torrentspy.com/uploadtorrent.asp). They will host the torrent file for you for people to download. Make sure you name your torrent where South Carolina fans can find it in a search.

ie:
2006 - South Carolina vs Houston Football DVD ISO (Good, People will find this)
sc-hou.iso (Bad, people will not find this)

Make sure the keywords South Carolina are in there. If you use "USC", you'll just get lost in a bunch of useless Southern Cal search results. If you use "Scar" as some have, no one will ever see it.

I also recommend uploading the torrent to Mininova (http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=%22south+carolina%22) and ISOHunt (http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=south+carolina) for maximum exposure. The more people downloading, the better.

7) Post the link to your torrent here at Cockytalk and elsewhere

Email the torrent to all your Carolina friends. Post it at Tenyardtorrents and anywhere else anyone might be interested. (Don't bother with the Scout forum. The Nazi mods there will delete your posts and ban you.)

The more people downloading the torrent, the better speed for everyone. The faster people can get the file, the more seeders you can get. So, post the torrent as many places as possible to make it more popular and get the most people possible using it. The faster you can get more seeders, the faster you can upload a new torrent with the next game you want to seed!

That's it! Your game video is now being shared on Bittorrent!

does anyone know what happened to "newnova"? That used to be my favorite torrent site. I don't know if they shut down for good or if they just changed sites again.
