April Fools!!!!!!

Well, we knew we couldn't do anything to top the PETA prank last year. After all, that one hit the news and resulted in hundreds of calls to the President's office. We also knew y'all would be expecting something! The only thing we could do is a prank that made us look bad. And what is the one thing CockyTalk would never do... GO PAY!

So it took a couple weeks to set this up. First, we had some of the mods inadvertently send PMs to certain "vocal" members that were "supposed" to go to other mods. They leaked information about the site going pay. That way when we started the joke, those members would hopefully have "inside information" about what was really going on and collaberate it by telling about the errant PM they got be mistake.

Second, we had Spur go off on a rant Friday night that he refused to be part of this site if it was pay. He was then immediately banned.

Third, we had members such as TStone stir the pot over and over in threads. When they stirred the pot, we immediately deleted it. Some posters think we are a little too strict on the site, so we went overboard on these posts deleting EVERYTHING! That way you guys would think we were serious.

Finally, I put up a bogus announcement saying everything would be clarified later this week... AFTER April Fool's Day.

Guys, I have said a thousand times that this site is not about money. And it never will be. I just don't get the whole "Insider Info" scam. Sure, some sites have reporters, etc. and need to cover costs, but CockyTalk has always relied on you, the posters, to be our Insiders.

So April Fools!!!! CockyTalk is and always will be a free site. As we enter our third year, we would like to thank y'all for making it an enjoyable place to come discuss our Gamecocks.

I started reading about the "paysite" thing when I got back from Late Night Carolina Friday night and said it was an april fools joke then. I'd quote my post but it was deleted.

The time of the year made it pretty obvious (though you can't help that), but if you really had so much traffic that you couldn't maintain the site you would be able to get advertising to take care of it.

Maybe Chuck and the Admin's will take this down. Whatever. I have nothing against them and appreciate the last 2 years on this board.

But, I have to say something to everyone here. You people are what make this board so great. YOU ALL are what made this board so popular. Everyone here is free to say whatever they want, whenever they want, and not worry about being asked for money.

But, that is about to change. Unfort, the admins here feel the time is right to start charging people for board use and info.

I feel that is wrong. Listen, if the admins here were losing money, I would have no problem with them charging a little OR asking for donations but that is NOT what they are doing.

Get ready for fees from $70 to even $90 a year just to even use the board. Is it worth it? I dunno. I just think it is wrong. I mean, how can you make people pay that much for just seeing or posting on the Recruiting Forum, Cockpit, and other forums on here when you are NOT losing money on here?

This board has separated itself from all other USC boards in that the software is top-notch and it is free. If the admins want to stay even with their financials, ask for money or charge a little here and there. But the massive charges ARE WRONG and I just fell the need to tell everyone before it happens very quickly.

And with that said, I am going to leave the board. I don't post much here anymore but I do think that EVERYONE here deserves to be treated better then they will be. I want to thank EVERYONE for his or her posts and thank EVERYONE for making this board so GREAT.

I remember being the 3rd person on this forum with chuck and KH....my how times change and change quick.

I was fooled. All of it was too much for me. I had ponied up once for a subscription to rivals but it was too much for me, going on a measly Nat. Guard paycheck so I had to stop. Now that site is useless to me because you can't view anything without paying. I would have hated for Cockytalk to have turned out that way also. Especially since whenever I get the football itch, I have to go to the video page and watch all the videos again. So, to all who create those videos, someone like me watches them over and over again.

And being without Spurts reports would have been a killer also. Especially this year since I won't be able to make any of the practices with training and being on the Citadel's Cadre.

Second, we had Spur go off on a rant Friday night that he refused to be part of this site if it was pay. He was then immediately banned.

Third, we had members such as TStone stir the pot over and over in threads. When they stirred the pot, we immediately deleted it. Some posters think we are a little too strict on the site, so we went overboard on these posts deleting EVERYTHING! That way you guys would think we were serious.

Finally, I put up a bogus announcement saying everything would be clarified later this week... AFTER April Fool's Day.

Guys, I have said a thousand times that this site is not about money. And it never will be. I just don't get the whole "Insider Info" scam. Sure, some sites have reporters, etc. and need to cover costs, but CockyTalk has always relied on you, the posters, to be our Insiders.

So April Fools!!!! CockyTalk is and always will be a free site. As we enter our third year, we would like to thank y'all for making it an enjoyable place to come discuss our Gamecocks.

But the bad part? I nearly had a heart attack.
NOT form thinkin' the board was going pay, but every time I've seen a lot of posts deleted something bad has happened. So not getting my info here I naturally turned to an all-out-gotta-know-now-search-from-hades on the 'net looking for bad news.
What do I find? A post in the Daily Gamecock asking if Spurrier did indeed have a stroke.
Only thing was the date posted wasn't that obvious - well not in the mental state I was in. If I had been chewing gum I would have choked...
