USC is the current leader for LB Shaq Wilson (6-1 210) of Jacksonville, FL. "I like South Carolina the most," Wilson said. "I have two of my former players there and I've been there before. I know the area." Wilson was invited to USC's junior day but couldn't make it. He will try to come in for a spring practice. Wilson has offers from USC, Minnesota, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Louisville and South Florida. He is also getting interest from Clemson, Florida State and Miami. All 4 of the prospects from First Coast are beasts. He could be an extremely good OLB at the college level. He has the frame to put on enough weight to start in the SEC at OLB and the speed to really stretch a play out. Also 132 tackles and 9 sacks when when he have to share the field with the great MLB (maybe the best LB in this year's class) that they have is extremely impressive.

hes only a jr but benches around 300lbs, by the time he is going to come in for school look for him to be around 225 pure muscle with 4.5 speed. perfect fit for an OLB. Glad we are an early favorite bc he can help us land the other ones. Carr is awsome but im tellin you guys that rb thomas they have is awsome!!

Florida Linebacker Commits To USC
By Phil Kornblut
LB Shaq Wilson (6-1 210) of Jacksonville, FL committed to USC Saturday morning before the Gamecocks' spring game. Wilson met with Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier, his recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr., and defensive coordinator Ty Nix and made his pledge. "Me and my family and my coach felt like it was time to make my decision," Wilson said. "I had seen everything I wanted to see. I just liked everything about South Carolina and decided to pull the trigger and be a Gamecock. The coaches were telling me everything they expect out of me and the process. They want to be the first to win an SEC championship at South Carolina. I told them I wanted to be their first commitment for 2008." Wilson also has offers from Minnesota, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Louisville and South Florida. He also has drawn interest from Clemson, Florida and Miami. Wilson had 132 tackles with 9 sacks last season. He is on track to graduate in December.

Welcome aboard young man !!!!!
They security at WB today actually made us move from our seats ....i was mad as hell until I found out the seats were reserved for some of these prospects...but they ended up giving the group seats in the shade and let us have our seats back...in the group with the 2008 prospect were some of the 2007 commits ....i sat near Alonzo Winfield and then a couple of minutes later I spotted the new AMBASSADOR of USC Footbal--MR. Q RICH!!!!! He is working hard for us and I let him know that we appreciate him trying to pull all of the talent he can into our program...everyone that meets him should do the same....hes gonna be a big time player and an even bigger recruiter for our GAMECOCKS!!!! Here is a pic I got of Q with some recruits (walking behind him )!!!!

Thomas almost committed to FSU a few weeks ago and i expect for him to end up there. I think thomas is the best back in florida so i hope we find a way to sway him.

Shaq Wilson
OLB | 6'0" 210
Hometown: Jacksonville, FL
School: First Coast High School
Region: South
School:
http://espn.go.com/i/teamlogos/ncaa/sml/trans/2579.gif
Status: Verbal
Grade: 80
Considered: 1-South Carolina , 2-Mississippi , 3-Georgia Tech , 4-Illinois , 5-Minnesota
Evaluation: Give Wilson the large frame of current teammate and elite linebacker Nigel Carr, and he might be one of the top prospects in this year's class. Despite his size, he is a tough, downhill-playing linebacker who thrives on contact. Shows the exceptional ability to slide laterally through the wash while attacking forward. Possesses good read-and-recognition skills, but his plant and drive explosion after diagnosing is what stands out. Combines that burst with sharp pursuit angles and excellent closing speed, effectively covering most tackle-to-tackle run plays. His coverage skills are also an asset. Besides having natural ball skills, he shows good instincts and short-area quickness. Consistently places himself in the right position between the ball and the receiver. However, he is best playing underneath routes; at times his shorter stride hurts his deep coverage ability. He does not possess elite sideline-to-sideline range in the run or pass. At the next level, his strength and technique at the point of attack will also need improvement. Currently, he flashes difficulty shedding larger blockers, and at the next level he will not be able to consistently finesse his way through traffic. Needs to improve his form-tackling even though he is a big hitter. In college, most of the running backs are going to be his size or potentially bigger. He will need to wrap his head around the ball, keep low pad level and tackle through. At times, the pile seems to continue forward on contact. He needs to continue getter stronger in his lower body and add more bulk to his already thick frame. Wilson is an excellent prospect who excels in the short area. We project him to do well in a system that will cover him with defensive linemen and allow him to attack aggressively.

Did anyone else watch the high school football game on TV Saturday afternoon? First Coast H.S. (FL) played Berkley H.S. (SC) to kick the season off. First Coast's LB Shaquille Wilson is a USC commit for next season. Two or three other players on their defense are FSU commits but none looked better than Wilson. That freaking kid was all over the field. He was the first one down the filed on kickoffs and got part of what seemed like every tackle while on defense. The other FSU commits looked ok but nothing like this guy. The announcers went on and on about how Wilson was a machine and got in on every play. He looked light but the stats had him at 220 lbs. He has room to muscle up a little but all in all he looked great.

Yeah, that was great. I wanted to pull for the South Carolina teams to win, but I was pulling for our commits to do well. Reid didn't look so good, but he's definitely mobile (he had to be because of his o-line...LOL). Reid also has a nice arm. I wasn't overly impressed with AJ Green.
Also, did you hear at the end of the broadcast when Shaq picked off the pass to end the game. One of the announcers was a guy that rates high school football players and he said "I'm gonna have to re-evaluate Shaq Wilson, I like this kid, he's all over the field!"

Your right about Reid. From the first snap he was running for his life. He made a couple of errors with the ball but still looked solid. His arm is strong and he has good feet. I wish he had a little more time in the pocket.
Yes I heard the talk about Shaq. They couldn't get over how many plays he found his way in to. I watched him on a few downs where the plays were going away from him and he never gave up on the play. He was full speed from snap to whistle. He has one hell of a motor in him. If you have a rivals account check this out, he was talking about how he cant wait to get to USC. Said he will enroll early and he is now 6'0 tall and 220lbs. he said he had to lay a few licks on ellington and knows he really hurt him at one point. Said andre is a really good back and told him that he needs to be a gamecock. Then andre just smiled, then shaq said its a long time till febuary..lol I thought that was pretty funny. But if shaq can get anyone he needs to get there own running back he imo is a top 5 back in the country.
But all in all Shaq dominated and is really going to be a huge pickup for us.

All-around phenoms
By Jeff Elliott, The Times-Union
When people are named the best in their specialty, they look for bigger challenges.
That's what Bartram Trail quarterback Kyle Parker and First Coast linebacker Shaquille Wilson will do in two weeks, when they bid farewell to their high school teammates and begin their college education.
Both players led their high school's football team to its highest level of postseason play.
Parker passed for more than 2,500 yards this fall in guiding the Bears to the Class 5A state semifinals before they were eliminated by Kissimmee Osceola in overtime. He threw for 305 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in the game, an effort that led to his selection as the 2007 Times-Union All-First Coast offensive player of the year.
Wilson was the inspirational leader of a Buccaneers defense that was largely responsible for the team winning eight consecutive games before a 22-19 loss to Pace in the Class 4A regional final cost First Coast a chance to reach their first state semifinal. For his season-long play in helping the Bucs to a 10-3 record, Wilson earned the All-First Coast defensive player of the year award.
Both players' on-field talents were well-noted. They were overwhelming choices as the top players by local area high school coaches who returned ballots. Both players were widely recruited by numerous colleges before making commitments to two state rivals - Parker to Clemson and Wilson to South Carolina.
While Parker and Wilson were standouts on the field, their high school coaches would just as soon talk about their character and achievements off the field.
"What an outstanding, wonderful young man he is," First Coast coach Marty Lee said of Wilson. "I can't think of a bad thing about him. He worked just as hard in the classroom, where he had close to a 3.5 GPA, as he did on the football field. He's always got that big smile on his face. He's just a wonderful kid. The one word that I would use to describe him is awesome.
"There isn't a person that's come in contact with him that has had a bad word to say about Shaq. I think he's going to have a tremendous career at South Carolina, and I think Florida coaches will regret that they didn't take him."
Bartram Trail coach Darrell Sutherland had similar words of praise for Parker, his quarterback and team leader.
"Kyle is a solid young man of character," Sutherland said. "That goes back to being competent on the field as well as off, where you practice what you preach. His work ethic is so strong, and his ability to do his job obviously rallies people around him.
He's been involved with a number of school projects, like the visit from the Barrow [Alaska] team last year. He was real involved with that. Kyle did a youth camp on Monday nights during the season for young, Pop Warner-aged kids who were quarterbacks. He worked with them on his own time. He's the real deal. He's a genuinely caring individual."
As much success as they've had, as much fun as they've enjoyed, Parker and Wilson both made the decision to leave the high school scene and start college in the spring. For Parker, that also means the chance to play baseball for Clemson instead of Bartram Trail this spring.
"I've enjoyed my time at Bartram Trail, but I think I've pushed it as much and as far as I'm going to get something out of it," he said. "If I stayed here and played high school ball, I knew I would get drafted. Scouts have told me I could go in the first five rounds of the draft, which is pretty good money. But I wanted a college experience. I didn't want it to be a year from now I'm riding buses [in the minor leagues] to games and wondering how I grew up so fast. I want to go to college and grow up there. Plus I really don't know which direction I'm going to go, baseball or football. I'm going to try both and run with it and see what happens."
For Wilson, his coach's words of praise regarding his off-the-field demeanor are appreciated, but he said that he turns into a different person once the uniform is on him. At 6-foot, 210 pounds, Wilson wasn't the most imposing defender among the Buccaneers' unit.
"With my size, I rely on my speed and technique a lot," Wilson said. "And I'm a great hitter. I tried to get people scared of me early in the game so that they'll start tip-toeing as they run at me later in the game. I feel like if I can intimidate runners early in the game, the rest of the game, they'll try to shy away from me.
"Size isn't everything. You've got to play with heart. With my speed and all the God-given talent God gave me, I'm very confident that I can play at South Carolina. I'm a smart player, and I put myself in the right position to make the play because I line up in the right technique. I get my reads down quickly. That's what enables me to play at a high level."
Before he departs for Clemson, Parker will play in one last high school football game - the Under Armour High School All-American Game on Jan. 5 at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. The game will be nationally televised by ABC.
Wilson was asked to play in the FACA All-Star game in Lakeland last Friday, but he opted to spend the time with his family before departing for Columbia, S.C. in 10 days.

First Coast High School linebacker Shaquille Wilson (right), who's going to South Carolina, is the All-First Coast defensive player of the year.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF YEAR
Kyle Parker
Position: Quarterback.
School: Bartram Trail.
College: Clemson.
Resume: Passed for 2,513 yards and rushed for 807, making him the only area player to accumulate over 3,000 total yards this year.
Coach's words: "He's like a coach on the field. He has the rare ability to think outside the box and check us out of one play and into another one that would work." - Darrell Sutherland, Bartram Trail DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF YEAR
Shaquille Wilson
Position: Linebacker.
School: First Coast.
College: South Carolina.
Resume: Bucs' leading tackler and one of the team's co-captains. Responsible for calling all defensive formations. Precise, hard-hitting tackler who played bigger than his size.

What is funny is Shaq Wilson is defensive player of the year and Nigel Carr is higher rated on the star system

I think the star rating is due to his size more than anything else. Albeit it shouldn't be that way because he plays alot bigger than he is and his stats back that up. Come on down to Columbia Shaq and make the remainder of the SEC understand who you are!!!

I tried to compare Shaq's stats with McCray but couldn't find much on Shaq. Shaq is only 2" shorter than McCray and runs a very similar 40 time (close enough not to matter). I couldn't find any combine info on Shaq but McCray really wowed them last year as the Scout combine. I think the difference in the two is more dependent on exposure to the agencies than actual playing ability.
Rivals only has McCray being .1 pt ahead of Wilson which establishes the margin between being *** and ****. I am curious to see how the rankins on Wilson finish.
Go Cocks!

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't move up to a 4-star.
