Ohio Lineman Now Hearing From USC

By Phil Kornblut
On Recruiting
Published: April 2, 2007

OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273) of Clayton, OH lived in Columbia until the fifth grade and would have attended Richland Northeast High School had his family not moved. The idea of returning to the Palmetto State for college is heavy on his mind. Clemson is one of his offers, and he was just recently contacted by USC offensive line coach John Hunt. "I was real excited when coach Hunt called last Friday," Sanders said. "He said the kind of body frame I have is what they are looking for. He wants to get me down to see practices in the pre-season. If I do get a chance, that will be one of my spots to go. He said he will come up to see me in the spring." Sanders is on spring break this week and has driven to Bentonville, ARK to visit his mother. On his way he stopped at Clemson Saturday to watch the scrimmage. "It's a good atmosphere," he said. "I went down to Death Valley. It's a cool environment. I could see myself playing there for those coaches, especially coach Scott and Napier. I got to see Willy Korn play. They said they were going to try to start some freshmen." Sanders stayed over at Clemson Saturday night and bunked in with Korn and fellow freshmen Xavier Dye, Landon Walker and Brian Linthicum. Sanders said he is planning to return to Clemson for the Florida State game. Monday morning he talked with the offensive line coach at Georgia, and he is going to try to make a visit to Michigan. Of the schools which have offered, Sanders said his top three are Clemson, Georgia and Michigan. He also likes Ohio State and Southern Cal. Sanders was recently offered by Maryland, and Stanford and Boston College have begun showing interest.

Sounds like a stud, would love to see him back in Cola. Plus he'd add to our plethera of unusual names such as Captain Munnerlyn, Vandaral Shackleford, Foxy Foxworth, and Ladi among others.

What i am wondering is how Clesmon can provide free lodging on an offical visit...If you noticed he admitte to bunking with Korn adn Walker so he can stay overnight...He can saty as long as he wants on an unoifficial if its on his dime...This is a major recruiting violation

My only thing is if he had a prior relationship with the Korn family since I think they are from Ohio, then maybe thats the only way he was able to stay.

Other than that, I would think it would be some kind of violation.

Not true....The kid is originally from Columbia anyways....He didn't stay at Korns home,,he bunked with Korn, Dye and Walker in on campus housing...Its an obvious violation

But he moved there to Ohio and Willy Korn was from Ohio. They could have been friends and therefore have a pre-existing relationship which would make no violations. I never said he stayed at the Korn's house. It's just a thought....no need to get your panties in a bunch.

It's Clemson. Nothing will happen.

Dude no need to insult me i am merely pointing out the obvious...The article clearly states he bunked with Korn, Dye and Walker...Do you think they all live with the Korn family??? How many people that live in Ohio would you suggest have "pre existing relationships"? This is an obvious violation that Becky Bowman has to sweep under the rug with the rest of them

Nobody insulted you. It just seems you are getting in an uproar about this when it will come out to be nothing. I never said they all live with the Korn family. Maybe if you would actually read what I said you would understand. It's just an idea that's all.

I found this somewhere else....

13.7.2.1.2 Housing -- Lodging in Dormitories
A prospective student-athlete on an unofficial visit may stay in an enrolled student-athlete's dormitory room ONLY if the prospective student-athlete pays the regular institutional rate for such lodging.

There's the potential for a violation, but we don't have enough information to say what happened for sure. All we can do, as good citizens, is point this out to the NCAA and let them investigate:

Telephone: 317/917-6222

I'm sure the reason they are discussing this potential recruiting violation is because if it was the same situation involving USC and a USC prospect bunked with USC players and it was a violation then the entire Clemsux following would be dialing up the NCAA to inform them of it.

USC Jumps In With Sanders

Published: April 20, 2007

USC has offered OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273), a former Columbia resident now living in Clayton, OH. "I was definitely excited since I'm from Columbia," Sanders said. "Coach Hunt said I was one of the most fluid players he's seen on the line for this year's class. I'm pretty interested in South Carolina." Sanders also has offers from Clemson, Miami, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Duke, Cincinnati, Miami of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Florida and Louisville. He also is getting interest from Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Ohio State, Boston College and Stanford. His Georgia recruiter was at his school Thursday and they talked for about an hour, and he received a letter from Clemson recruiter Brad Scott Thursday. Scott and Clemson recruiter Billy Napier plan to visit Sanders as does USC's Hunt. Sanders said his top seven right now, in no order, are USC, Clemson, Michigan, Georgia

Sanders To See USC, Clemson

By Phil Kornblut
OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273) of Clayton, OH plans to visit USC this summer unofficially, and he plans to make an official visit to Clemson for the Labor Day weekend game against Florida State his father said Sunday night. Along with the Gamecocks and Tigers, Mr. Sanders said his son has been talking highly about Florida, Florida State, Stanford, Southern Cal and Michigan.

I hope we don't give up on Freeman and Page even though they are Clemson leans. Both are quality OL that could make an immediate impact for almost any team in the nation. Sanders sounds pretty good to me. I'm actually debating what kind of OTs would be better for our team. The lighter quicker on their feet OTs or the bigger beastlier OTs. The light ones are good to counter the speed rush but can be overpowered. The heavy ones can be run around just look at the UCLA USC game last year. Sanders sounds like a long lean OT that has good feet and that I would love to be on our team.

Sanders Might Make USC Visit

By Phil Kornblut
On Recruiting
Published: September 4, 2007

OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273) of Clayton, OH was scheduled for an official visit to Clemson this past weekend but didn't make, and now he's not sure he'll visit the Tigers. Sanders had a game on Sunday and his father felt it best his son not try to cram in a visit early in the week. "He really needed to be at practice yesterday (Monday) and today," Mr. Sanders said. "He feels he needs to be here to show leadership to the guys." Sanders has moved up his official visit to Georgia to the weekend when the Bulldogs play host to USC. His mother, a UGA graduate, will join him. Sanders will visit Florida September 14th. He said he will set a date with UCLA and he would like to visit LSU. And he might work in a visit to USC. "I've told him how much the university has changed and how they have nice facilities," Mr. Sanders said. The younger Sanders does not have a favorite among his final schools

Sanders To LSU This Weekend

By Phil Kornblut
OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273) of Clayton, OH had thought about taking his official visit to USC this weekend, but his father said Monday night he most likely will take an official visit to LSU instead and visit USC later. LSU has a game Friday and Sanders wants to be back home to attend some high school playoff games in Dayton Saturday according to his father. Sanders has taken official visits to Florida and Georgia and is looking at Stanford or UCLA for his final visit. He made an unofficial visit to Michigan last weekend. Zebrie has not expressed a favorite. As for his father, Mr. Sanders favors Florida. And he said his son is looking at some specific factors. "He's looking at the stability of the staffs, his comfort level with the coaches, the prestige level of the program, and how the coaches have helped the players move on wherever they may go in life."

Also, our tigers in disguise in this thread need to understand that Page is going to be a Gamecock - AND - if something happens to Fat Scott Freeman could pull the trigger for the Gamecocks. Yea, I'd like to see B Scott out of SC for good. We need O-linemen. I was hoping SOS would have followed up on that great class of OL's from 2 years ago by signing at least 4 more last year, but we only got 2. We need to get at least 4 this year and start redshirting these guys. OL's shouldn't be playing as true freshmen.

Clayton (Ohio) Northmont four-star offensive tackle Zebrie Sanders (http://southcarolina.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=57005) is one of the highest rated offensive tackles still undecided at this point in the process. With an impressive offer list featuring some of the SEC's best, Sanders is beginning to narrow his focus.

Zebrie Sanders plans to take an official visit to South Carolina next month."Georgia, Florida, and LSU and then I'm looking at South Carolina," Sanders said. "Those are my top (schools)."

He listed his top four and he still hasnt visited yet, so we have no idea how he will hit it off with sos. This kid wants to play early, and he said he has watched three of our games on tv and said we need some oline help. This kid wants to play and play early. I dont think he will be able to do that at other schools. UGA is set, along with UF on the oline. both lines are young. Wait till he visits and see what he says about us. Dont read just one article and think ur inside this kids head and know you know exactly what he is thinking. ill say it again, if we can pull J Barnes, and Wes Saunders from UNC we can steal anyone. Everyone on here was saying we didnt have a chance with these guys and no one trusted sos.

Im not saying we are going to get him, but im just saying we have as good as a shot as anyone. So just trust sos for once.

I love it when people try to make the kids list. We all have no idea who is first second or third on his list.

Exactly. Everyone, including myself, had written off Jason Barnes to UNC and were close enough on Weslye Saunders to have given him away also.

If he wants to play early why go to Georgia? They are ate up with Freshman and Sophmores. Look at this depth
Ate up with freshmen and sophomore? I do see the same Vince Vance as the second string LT, LG, and RG. This kid knows he's talented enough to break in and play almost anywhere he'd like.

Your right Will, Vance is a not a Freshman - nor is he a starter. However, are you looking at the two TACKLE depth charts? After the one Senior in Chester Adams, you have two Freshman OLineman that were heavily recruited themselves backing up his position. Don't forget these two guys have been in the system and have played. Think what you want but the two Tackle positions at UGa are tied up for the next three years. As far as Vance, he is screwed and will be a career backup unless they move him to the other side. If Sanders thinks he is good enough to beat Sturdivant, Kiante Tripp and Josh Davis out more power to him - I just don't see it happening. I also don't think Sanders has much interest in moving inside to Guard from what I have read. We will see but if he actually chooses UGa he will be making a Leon Hart decision IMO.

Will4144

What I meant by Vince Vance was that the depth chart isn't deep behind the starters, but overall, you're right. Zebrie Sanders isn't going to want to play OG and with his talent, he shouldn't have to.

Sanders Working On USC Visit

By Phil Kornblut
OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273) of Clayton, OH was not able to keep his scheduled official visit to USC last weekend but his father said they are working with the Gamecocks to reschedule the trip. "He is talking about rescheduling with South Carolina but he is ready to make his decision," Mr. Sanders said. "He's been picked for the ESPNU All America game in January in Orlando and plans to announce there. But he still plans to take the official visit to South Carolina. We want him to see what the college environment is like. He wants to look at South Carolina because we know so many things have changed since we were there." The Sanders lived in Columbia until Zebrie was in the fifth grade. Sanders has made official visits to Florida, Georgia and LSU. He's also looking at Michigan which he has visited unofficially several times.

USC Out With Sanders
By Phil Kornblut

OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273) of Clayton, OH made an official visit to Louisville over the weekend. That was his fourth official visit. The others were to Florida, Georgia and LSU. Sanders said his fifth visit will be either UCLA or Florida State. USC had been recruiting him but Sanders said he's not longer considering the Gamecocks. He said Florida and Georgia remain his favorites.

According to todays AJC, Sanders waited too long to committ. He planned to announce today for Fl. but they called to say they were full at ol. Sanders had asked them to hold a slot wheen he visited Fl. Ga his second choice is tapped out too.. They told him if anything opened up, they'd call. According to this report, he is left with UCLA and FSU. Wish we could turn him our way so he could line up against the Gators and Dawgs. Guess it happens to others too al a Page.

Florida rejects commitment from Sanders

Zebrie Sanders’ plan to choose between Florida and Georgia this weekend has hit an unexpected snag.
The 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle from Northmont High in Clayton, Oh. was set to commit to the Gators on Sunday.
But the lack of scholarships available in Gainesville for offensive linemen has Sanders looking elsewhere for a place to play college football.
“The school that Zebrie was going to commit to called and informed him they no longer have slots available,” said Sanders’ father Vincent Sanders. “It was a disappointing situation for him. He had told that school to hold a spot for him when he went on a visit there.
“And Zebrie had already called all the other coaches and told them he appreciated the experience, but he wanted to go elsewhere. Needless to say, now he feels like he has egg on his face.”
Sanders’ opportunity to commit to the Gators apparently slipped away this week after Florida accepted commitments from offensive linemen Ricky Barnum of Lakeland, Fl. and Matt Patchan of Seffner, Fl.
Georgia is in a situation similar to the Gators. The Dogs are tapped out on the total number of scholarships it has remaining for the current recruiting class.
“I have not talked to the people at Georgia,” Vincent Sanders said. “They told Zebrie if anything comes open they will contact him.”
Florida State and UCLA now appear to be Sanders’ new front-runners.
“He may take an official visit to FSU; he may take an official to UCLA,” Vincent Sanders said. “He’s going to go where they want him.”
Vincent Sanders was still stinging Saturday night from the disappointing news.
“As his dad, I was hurt,” he said. “When a head coach tells you ‘you’re a part of our school’ and then everybody backs away from you, how am I supposed to feel?
“I’m not interested in bashing anybody. I’m just telling you what happened.
“Zebrie is just fortunate enough that some other doors are still open.”

I am not saying that we could NEVER do it. But I do think our staff would have said, hey, we can't hold a slot. We are going after the best and if someone else comes along, and you haven't made up your mind, then we will have to make our own decision.

If it did happen as was written and that there was an undestanding that a position was being held for him, then I think it is pretty crappy.

I think our staff is so up front, it might hurt us. Our staff would tell someone that they can't afford to wait, or where they are on the list, I hope.

It is a guess, just a guess, but that may have been what happened with Paige.

I am holding out hope that Zebrie will want some pay back.

Maybe he should consider USC so he will have his chance to compete against these two schools UGa and UF. I do not see where USC isn't as competitive as either UCLA or FSU. Its obvious he wants to play in the SEC...However, when you play the recruiting game this is what happens. I do not fault UF or UGa for filling up, he had his chance to commit.

Rivals still has us as a medium interest for Sanders, and UCLA as a low interest. I hope whoever recruited him earlier (Hunt?) gives him a call and lets him know we still have open slots (how many do we have: 1 or 2?). But then again, if we already have other OL prospects that have shown high interest in us, and are preparing to commit to us during the next week, it would be a shame to bump them and take Sanders, when he turned his back on us.........

USC Reconnects With Sanders

By Phil Kornblut
OL Zebrie Sanders (6-6 273) of Clayton, OH remains on the market after Florida and Georgia, his first two choices, filled up at his position and could not accept a commitment. USC is one of the schools to recently contact Sanders in hope of landing his final official visit. "South Carolina, Florida STate and West Virginia have been in touch," Sanders's father said. "Coach Hunt (USC) called shortly after the news broke after the situation with Florida and Georgia. They would like to get back in to it because they still have a need for a tackle." Mr. Sanders said as of this morning his son indicated he was leaning towards Florida State for his final official visit, but USC was a possibility. "There's always been that fondness in his heart for Columbia," Mr. Sanders said. The Sanders lived in the Lower Richland area of Columbia before moving to Ohio. Mr. Sanders said the dissapointment of the Florida, Georgia situations has slowed the recruiting process. "We're taking a step back and trying to catch or breath," Mr. Sanders said. "He's kind of turned off by the recruiting process. I'm kind of turned off by the recruiting process." Sanders also visited LSU and Louisville and those two are still factors. A recruiter from Louisville is due in tomorrow.

This is very good news.

I have seen enough of us (me included) gripe or question why the big names look in other directions for schools to attend ... and now we have the cards stacked in our favor (or at least moreso than in the past)

Even if he was leaning to other schools, if our staff gets him here and he likes it, it would be a great pickup for us.

And i think one - maybe 2 - OL would be the absolute most we would take ... and ZS is a good one.
