I wouldn't mind getting another running back, but If this womble kid wants to make the mistake of his life by going to UNC then let him. We have Mike Davis coming back next year, plus Bobby Wallace will be back from RS, Brian Maddox will be bigger and more experienced next year, plus we have Eric Baker coming in next year. Thats four quality RBs right there. We'll be alright.

Also, there's nothing wrong with talking about recruits on this board. If a recruit chooses not to come here and sites a messae board as the reason then I would have serious doubts about his mental toughness. It takes someone who is mentally tough to play in the SEC and play for a Gamecock team who can be up and down and whose fans are beginning to have heightened expectations.

i see your point, but i want us to land a guy with reggie bush or noel devine-like speed and vision ... and im anxious to see what Baker and maddox bring to the team, as well as Womble.

And from what i haering about Baker, hes going to be a good one

(Not referring to any specific posts above, just to a general trend in the last 8 or so posts). Want to talk about other running backs you'd take over Womble based upon your "expert" knowledge, then create a seperate thread called "Running Back Wish List". This is the JAMAL WOMBLE thread. Spurrier and staff want this kid more than ANY other kid out there right now. Keep any negative posts or ALTERNATIVE choice rb's OUT OF THIS THREAD. As stated, this is the JAMAL WOMBLE thread, and just because he said he had a great time at UNC and that they lead right now, it's no reason to act like "Oh, well we could do better anyways..." I don't think Spurrier and staff would appreciate it if somehow Womble's final decision was influenced by someones stupid post on a Gamecock website. Womble is a beast, he's the man, and he's #1 on my list, as well as Spurrier's.

If he was impressed with the atmosphere at UNC I can't wait until he visits us in November. That UNC crowd, by Gamecock standards, was lackluster and boring. I *think* he's planning to visit during the Florida game?

Does anybody have video on Womble? I've heard he's alot like that nasty back at Kansas State that beat Oklahoma in the Big XII championship a few years back, Darren Sproles. Any truth to this?

IMHO UNC will do everything it can to keep that kid from visiting a USC game...No way their Gameday environment can compete with ours...It is just like Jawja did that Sanders Cummings kid that wanted to come visit us for the UK game...Jawja tricked him somehow into meeting with their baseball coach that day and held him in Athens too long for him to make the drive to Columbia...Recruiting gets dirty sometimes...If the propsects are not smart and strong willed they get pimped by overzealous recruiters...But i agree with those that say if Womble visits for a game our chances of signing jump waaaaay up

I think Jamal is the real deal. Goodjam is helping him in the process, he will tell us how to find videos when he gets here, he is real good about that.

It sounds like he liked the atmosphere at UNC, I am sure he just liked the campus, I am sure he noticed the large contingent of Gamecock fans.

I can't wait until he visits, he will love it.

Hello everyone.

You can see a few runs from his last game via his local newspaper web site> Click on Buena vs Mountain View
I believe the two runs were at the 1:50 & 3 minute marks

And just to note at the end of the day his still 16 and very impressive, so as the visits go so does his mine changing. As stated on the other post I inform my players I don't ever expect them to have a bad official visit, so take it all in enjoy the fans and locations come back home and do their homework.

USC is still very much in the race.

Oh yeah. He'll be very impressed when he walks into the stadium and the fans start calling his name. Cliff Matthews said he was knocked off his feet when people he didn't know started calling his name. Our huge contingent of screaming, crazy fans will get him pumped up about someday playing in front of them. Before the game is over he'll be giving his verbal to SOS.

Would love to have this guy. He's int. in the UNC Goats unless something has changed. I wouldn't turn down another RB for his I'm here then I'm there attitude. Perfectly understandable. When I was in HS I went down to Ala. Spoke with Coach Bryant for ..........perhap to 15 min. Perhaps it was his deameanor, but I wasn't at all convinced that was looking for a kidfrom S.C. that wanted to be Pre-Med.
I quickly figured I'd be riding pine for three years and perhaps letter as a senior. No offer was initiated of course. Got one later, but had already made my mind up.
Unfortunately from what I understand this guy is waffling to play the game
to the end which is ok for him.
I'd want a lot more than that at this time of the year.

Womble Ready For USC Visit

By Phil Kornblut
RB Jamal Womble (5-11 225) of Sierra Vista, AZ has taken official visits to Boston College and North Carolina. He will make an official visit to USC for the weekend of the Clemson game, and he'll take his final official visit the following weekend when he travels to Arizona State. "I'll be attending one of those four schools, I'll guarantee you that," Womble said. "North Carolina has a slight edge. I had a good visit and it's a good situtation. But everybody still has a chance. I talked to coach Gillespie about a week ago. They're ready to have me in for a visit and show me what South Carolina football is all about. He explained it's going to be totally different from the last time I was there." Womble made an unofficial visit to USC last summer. He said his parents will join him on the visit. Womble finished his season with 1800 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. He also had 13 catches for 270 yards and one touchdowns, and he returned one kickoff for a touchdown.

The Gamecocks lost a heartbreaking 23-21 contest to arch-rival Clemson on Saturday night, but there was some good that came out of the weekend for USC. The Gamecocks played host to a number of elite prospects at Saturday's game, including Buena (Sierra Vista, AZ) standout running back Jamal Womble, who took in his first ever South Carolina home game. Read inside for all the details.

The 5'11", 215 pound Womble (http://southcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=184&p=8&c=1&nid=2618396), who made an unofficial visit to USC over the summer, said he came away with a whole new impression of South Carolina (http://southcarolina.scout.com/) after this weekend and was blown away by USC's game day atmosphere.

"It was a good trip. I enjoyed the visit. The most impressive thing about the whole entire trip was the game time atmosphere. That was crazy. I've never experienced anything like that in my life," said Womble. "I had a pretty thorough unofficial visit when I went there before. I learned about the academics and took a tour of the campus and stuff then. Basically this time I went down there and hung out with the players. I interacted with them and talked with the coaches. I didn't learn much new, but I did see the real South Carolina this time."

While in Columbia, Womble had the opportunity to talk with several of the Gamecock coaches, including his recruiter and potential position coach at USC, Robert Gillespie.

"I went to breakfast with Coach Gillespie and Coach Spurrier. I went to dinner with Coach Gillespie also. We talked a lot while I was there," said Womble. "We talked about some basic stuff like how my season went and how their season is going. They haven't had a good second half (of the season) this year, and they were telling me about that."

After watching a number of South Carolina games on TV this year and seeing the Gamecock offense first hand on Saturday night, Womble said he likes how Coach Spurrier utilizes the running backs in his offense.

"It was nice. It was what I expected after watching them on TV. They run a lot of swing routes, zone plays, reads and things like that."

The Gamecocks recently picked up a commitment from running back Kenny Miles (http://southcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=184&p=8&c=1&nid=3437904) out of Snellville, GA, but according to Womble, that won't play a factor in his decision.

"No, that won't affect my decision at all. That's just more competition for me. Wherever I go, I'm going to have to compete anyway, so them having another running back (committed) doesn't mean much when I'm going to have to go in there and compete. I'd compete the same whether he was there or not."

When asked to rate his trip to USC on a scale between one and ten, Womble gave his visit to Columbia high marks.

"I'd say it was a 9.5 because they didn't get the win. Everything else was great. That was easily the best game day environment I've been around, period - NFL or college," said Womble. "They definitely helped their chances this weekend."

Womble entered the weekend holding North Carolina (http://northcarolina.scout.com/) as his slight leader, but following his trip to USC, he is not going on record with any favorites. He has, however, decided on a timeframe for his decision.

"I'm making my commitment after the ASU visit (On December 1). So as far as leaders, I can't comment on that. You can expect a decision about December 5."

The versatile runner, who possesses good size and power but has also been timed as low as 4.37 seconds in the forty yard dash, closed by discussing what factors he will consider when deciding on the school of his choice.

"I'm just going to sit down after my visits and look at everything academically and from a sports standpoint. I'll also look at where

I knew he had some pretty good speed I just never thought it got down to 4.37. That would be deadly because he has a good bit of size too so he would be difficult to stop with a good combination of power and speed. I think he and Maddox would be a great tandem 2 years from now.

Womble Makes Official Visit To USC

By Phil Kornblut
RB Jamal Womble (5-11 225) of Sierra Vista, AZ made his official visit to USC over the weekend. "It was a nice visit, I had a lot of fun," Womble said Sunday afternoon. "The biggest thing was the atmosphere of the game. I had breakfast with coach Spurrier. We talked about basic stuff like how they would use me." Brian Maddox served as Womble's player host. "I liked the players," he said. "I got along with them." Womble will visit Arizona State this coming weekend and will announce his decision December 5th. He has eliminated Boston College and is down to USC, North Carolina and Arizona State. Womble said he won't name a favorite until he makes his announcement.

here's a new article on Womble from GamecockCentral.com, mostly the same stuff that already been discussed.....Just thought I would post anyway:

Sierra Vista (Ariz.) Buena three-star running back Jamal Womble (http://southcarolina.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=56185) took his fourth official visit of the recruiting process over the weekend when he made his way across the country to check out the South Carolina Gamecocks.

http://vmedia.rivals.com/IMAGES/Camper/PHOTO/JAMALWOMBLE607NA1200.JPGJamal Womble rated his Carolina visit a 9.5.

"It was a great visit," the 5-foot-11, 217-pound Womble said. "Everything went real good overall. I really enjoyed myself."

Womble, whose host on the visit was Gamecock running back Brian Maddox (http://southcarolina.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=83830), spent a lot of time with the Carolina coaches.

"Coach (Steve) Spurrier ate breakfast with me and my family, and then we had dinner with coach (Robert) Gillespie one night," he said. "They said a lot of good things. I had met coach Spurrier on my unofficial visit over the summer, but I got to know him better this time around. He's a great coach and a cool guy."

Despite the fact that Carolina came up on the losing end, Womble said the highlight of the trip was their game with Clemson.

"The game was unbelievable and so was the atmosphere," he said. "That was probably the best part of the trip. I loved being at the game."

Womble, who rated the South Carolina trip a '9.5', has one official visit remaining before making his announcement.

"I'm visiting Arizona State on December 1st, and then I'm going to announce on December 5th," he said. "I'm down to South Carolina, North Carolina and Arizona State. They're all even. I'll decide where I'm going once I've taken that last trip."

Last weekend (Nov. 23) Womble visited South Carolina officially for their big Clemson (http://clemson.scout.com/) rivalry game. "I loved the atmosphere at the game," he said. "That was easily the highlight of my trip and of all my trips. That was the most amazing atmosphere at a football game I've ever been at including NFL or college. It's hard to describe but the fans were great and they were in it from the very beginning to the very end. "It was also really cool to sit down and have breakfast with the coaches and just get to talk to them," he said. "They said they really like how I can catch the ball too and they see me making catches for them as well as just taking it up the middle."

"I really like the facilities at Arizona State and it's just a nice place in general," Jamal Womble said. "They had a great season and I didn't expect them to do as well as they did. They've got a good chance to go to a BCS bowl this year. Coach Dennis Erickson really turned things around there and I'm really looking forward to getting to talk with him and get to know him better during my trip."

Jamal Womble (http://southcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=184&p=8&c=1&nid=2618396), the 5-foot-10.5, 215-pound three-star running back from Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Ariz., will be announcing his decision on Dec. 5 during a press conference at his high school.
"My dad is being deployed to Iraq on Dec. 8 and I really wanted him to see me make my decision," Womble said. "My parents both back me and support whatever decision I make."
Womble, Scout.com's No. 50 running back nationwide, has narrowed it down to three finalists: North Carolina (http://northcarolina.scout.com/), South Carolina (http://southcarolina.scout.com/) and Arizona State (http://arizonastate.scout.com/). He takes his final visit to see the Sun Devils in action on Dec. 1.

He visited North Carolina on Oct. 5. "Coach Butch Davis is great and I think they are on the rise," he said. "They'll be a great program in the future because coach Davis has a good reputation for making teams great. They are also bringing in some good recruits next year."
The Tar Heel coaches plan to visit Womble for an in-home visit next week.
Womble also visited Boston College (http://bostoncollege.scout.com/) on Sept. 7, but is no longer considering the Eagles. He also previously had Wisconsin (http://wisconsin.scout.com/), Nebraska (http://nebraska.scout.com/) and Louisville (http://louisville.scout.com/) on his favorites list before narrowing it down to his current final three.
"The three I've narrowed it down to are the best fit for me and my family," he said. "With North Carolina and South Carolina I've got a lot of family in that areas and ties to the south. And with Arizona State I've got my dad and when he gets back from Iraq he may have to stay in Arizona for a few more years - so if I went to Arizona State that would work out pretty well."
In late October when we spoke with Womble he said that North Carolina had a "slight lead", but he now says all three favorites are even.
"I'm making my announcement next week, so I don't want to name a leader or anything right now. But it's not like I've already made up my mind. After I get back from Arizona State, I'll have a few days to really talk everything through with my parents." Womble finished his senior season (3-7) with 170 carries for 1,787 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also had one touchdown receiving and one

It could just as easily be possible he gave our coaches a heads up. It's a lot closer from Tempe to Sierre Vista. Maybe the goats know it's worth a long flight to Phoenix Sky harbor airport to bring home a prize. Some folks just like to slam our coaches at every opportunity when they like I are only using suppositions.

Is he Jamal Womble?

How does he know what he is going to do?

Does it help the program in anyway for a member posting in this thread to state something that he has no evidence of besides an opinion?

Best thing is, is that maddox, womble, and miles have all reportedly run in the 4.3's in the forty. Baker a LB or RB? That may be the question of the class. I think he'll stay at RB, because he was a stud there in high school. Elusive. I think he played LB at prep school because they already had another RB in line to start for them... LB gives him playing time and experience.

In all honesty, I have no idea why Eric Baker played LB for Fork Union or if that could've been only a rumor, but we'll find out in time.

I was thinking Baker at DB, maybe even a big hard hitting corner with 4.4 speed.

I wish Womble a good Career at UNC except when he comes to play the Gamecocks, then again I can always hope he changes his mind but I'm not gonna bank on it

no, i think kenny miles looks faster. i really question womble's 40 time. there is no way he runs a legit 4.41. however, i would have loved to have seen him in garnet and black. but with miles, and baker, maddox, wallace and davis we will be just fine. no to mention if we snag ward

I agree Miles looks slightly faster on film. I was more referring to their build and look in a uniform and their running styles. Miles does look like he can run away from people on film and he was playing against some of Georgia's best HS's.

Of the film i have seen i would say miles looks faster and has a lower center of gravity - hes got the build of Barry Sanders IMO

While i wont say Womble is slow by any stretch, it did seem Miles hits 5th gear faster.

Womble looks taller and the best comparision i can give is an eddie george type TB ...

Both are good pick ups.

FWIW, ppl are debating speed, and while i dont put a penny in the rivals stock times, i would be shocked to see KM get caught from behind. he hits the hole fast and hits top speed equally fast.

YES! I believe that's why we took Kenny Miles commitment so quickly. He was the same as one of our top recruits, but faster.

baker is playing both LB and RB in prep just because they need him due to numbers and that he is an outstanding athlete. Dont forget how good of a running back he is. He led the state of florida in rushing at the highest level. the kid almost benches 400lbs and runs in the 4.4's Lets not be so quick to move this kid to defense.

Womble wants to play early at UNC but they recruited some kids that play rb as freshmen last year that are very good. I just dont understand wanting to play in a stadium half the size of ours and playing in one of the worst leagues in the country. I just dont get it but hey the kid also wants to be close to his family. I guess we really lost that game in the long run. we should of just pounded them.

21 pages of wasted bandwidth.

We actually rolled out the carpet for him to go to UNC by our poor second half playing. Think about it. We helped them to fill their stadium. We added some electricity and made a lot of noise in the first half. In the second half the complete opposite occurred. The heels were screaming, standing & their team dominated us. He felt that electricity & fed off of it. Like Spurrier, B. Davis probably turned to him and said that he is the piece of the puzzle that would've pushed them over the top (Spurrier to C. Matthews on his official).

If we would've blown UNC out, we could've had him.

This was strickly a family decision. We could have beat UNC by 50 and it would not have made a difference.

I don't think any of that matters if you can guarantee a kid that he'll be playing his favorite position in "big" games his freshmen year and that you'll be a contender for your conference title every year. [Even Duke could claim they can contend for that EZZ crown]

They played two kids as true freshmen last year that were both four stars i believe, why would you want to go right behind them with them having a year up on you. When with us you have next year a sophmore and a Sr, and play in the best conference in the country. The carolina clemson game must of been 10 times the atmosphere of the south carolina vs unc game. Unfortunenate for him he saw there best game of the year with the most fans they had through the whole year. They never pack out stadiums, when they beat miami i was watching tv and i was like where is the crowd bc i never saw them ?

No sour grapes here. I think Davis will build a strong program at UNC. Apparently he's gotten strong committments from the administration. I thought his recruiting class last year was very good given his late start. It would appear this kid had decided based on family. With that said, I don't know what kind of hs football they play in AZ. I have been to Sierra Vista and it's a small place south of Tuscon. I do know what kind of competition there is in Gwinnett County Ga. It's as good as it gets. It's as big as it gets on the hs level. As someone posted, our coaches did not hesitate to offer Miles. For a period of time, it appeared they were holding off on other backs til Womble decided. Miles came along and they jumped on him. i think there's a message imbeded in there.

I watched some of his high school video earlier in the year and I wasn't that impressed. He didn't exactly look like an all-world player. To me he just looked like he was a little better than everyone else (just a step quicker), but then again I don't know how great of high school football Arizona has. This is just my opinion, but I'm not upset at all that we didnt get him. We have Mike Davis, Brian Maddox, Eric Baker, and Bobby Wallace plus Kenny. We're set at RB, we don't need 8 RBs.
