USC Offers Arizona Back (http://www.goupstate.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070531/PSPORTS02/70531011/-1/PSPORTS)
By Phil Kornblut
RB Jamal Womble (5-11 220) of Sierra Vista, AZ was offered Thursday by USC. "They said a written offer would be coming soon," Womble said of the verbal offer presented by running backs coach Robert Gillespie. "He had just watched my film before he called me and I know they are really interested." Womble grew up in Teachey, NC before moving to Arizona two years ago and said most of his family still lives in the South. That will influence his decision. "I would like my family to see me play football," he said. Womble plans to make unofficial visits in July to USC, North Carolina, Duke and NC State. Womble said his offer list includes USC, Oregon State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Purdue, Arizona State, Illinois, Indiana, Duke, Central Florida, Army, Navy and Utah. Womble plans to make his decision after hi season.
Wow. He has some impressive offers. He must be a baller.

That 4 star kid from georgia looks good too. Over 2400 yards last year rushing with 29 td's, but he might be in some small league. I'm telling you, USC needs to get a hold of Simpson Miller from Chesterfield. That kid is quick as hell. The rivals' 40 time is wrong. He runs easily under a 4.5.
Mr.Womble has some mighty impressive measurables. Great speed at that weight if the weight is accurate. Great strength as well... especially in his legs... 515 pound squat!!!!!
Wow!

Definately an impressive physical specimen. He would be a very good power back for us. I'm not sure who I would prefer him or the GA RB. Both seem like studs. The UGA RB has productivity while this guy is just a flat out beast.

USC told Womble that we would shut down our RB recruiting if he commits to us. He is set to visit in Nov. Would love to land this kid with his size and speed. Says he favors USC and Nebraska and has a 3.0 core GPA and a 1560 SAT.

is that 1560 a new SAT score or an old one?
Because damn...a 1560 is impressive. I got a 1550 on the old one, which means I missed two questions and didn't answer one.
1560 would equate to only missing two on the entire test.
I hope that is the old SAT score...b/c if so...

It's possible, because I did well on my SAT but had a pretty crappy GPA...

Either way, good read and I hope to get him. Now that FB season is getting closer I'm trying to get caught up on recruiting. (What else is there 'til August?)

It's possible. Out of a class of 300 I barely finished in the top 3rd from a GPA standpoint, but the only person in my class who scored higher than me on the SAT was my class valedictorian. I also got As on all of my tests (all Honors & AP classes), I played football, was in ROTC, was the sports editor for the school yearbook & newspaper and worked 30 hours a week. Despite my GPA I was awarded a Palmetto Fellow scholarship because of my SAT scores and extra-curricular activities. I simply didn't burden myself with inane and obviously unnecessary busy-work (homework) and some teachers docked me for it because that's all they understood.
gotrice?

Is it just me or is Womble a great name? But seriously unless we had 2 great backs throw themselves at us we were probably only going to go with 1 back so telling him that is just something to say to make ourselves look better. Considering we will have probably have very large OL and LB classes this year I'm not sure how much room we would have for multiple RBs especially after landing both Maddox and Baker last year.
Juice4Bruce
06-21-2007, 12:50 PM
I would expect that we would atleast sign 1..you need RB's every year simply b/c they are so injury prone. Secondly..I dont know if yall knew this or not...and if you did I dont want to insult you..but for those who didnt..a core gpa is i think just your math, english, science, and history..nothing else like PE, photography, music, or anything like that. This kid very well may have more like a 3.7/8 gpa but his harder classes he has B's in. I see hard work-ethic when I see good grades like that so I definately want him to be the rb we sign.
GoValpo
06-21-2007, 07:53 PM
i guess there is no such thing as the taking the new or old SAT, you simply take the SAT with the new writing portion and it is worth 800 points for a total of 2400 points but only some colleges are considering the writing portion as of now when looking at applicants so most people will just tell you their 1600 score
but.....1560 out of 1600? im thinkin that was 2400, no offense to him

"They said if I commit, I would be the only running back they take," Womble said of the Gamecocks' interest in him. "Coach Gillespie said I'm their number one guy." Womble also has scheduled an official visit to Nebraska for September 16th. Among his other offers are Oregon State, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Illinois and Indiana. That's been my worry since this situation unfolded. If Womble decides to go elsewhere and waits too long to make that decision, who will be left on the board at the RB position? Will Brandon Davis be there? Will others that we want/wanted still be there? That's my worry.

yea that is along time away and i dont want brandon davis to go elsewhere if womble doesnt gave us a commintment soon or when football season starts
He comes for an unofficial next month and I bet we press him to commit then so we do not get in this potential bind... don't know anything special, just think that would be logical.
Also, this kid is a very strong runner. His films show him dragging kids behind him towards the goal line as they try to tackle him and stop him. He makes me think of the "Bus" actually, but faster. When he gets a head of steam behind him he is a load to bring down. If we get him we could have the most punnishing backfield in the SEC from a physicality standpoint. Then, with he and BMad throw in Baker, Wallace, Jared Cook & Culliver in some Harvin type formations, etc. and it would get nasty and fast!

Womble Set For Trip East
By Phil Kornblut
RB Jamal Womble (5-11 221) of Sierra Vista, AZ will make a trip to the East Coast later this month including a stop at USC, and he's bringing a friend with him. Womble will visit USC July 16th or 17th and will be joined on the visit by teammate Jake Muasau (6-1 212) who plays linebacker, defensive back and receiver. "South Carolina is interested in him and is trying to get some film, and he's interested in South Carolina," Womble said. Womble will begin his trip with stops on Tobacco Road...North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest and Duke. LSU has been coming on with him of late and could offer soon. But Womble remains firm with his top two teams right now. "South Carolina and Nebraska are still at the top, a little bit above the rest," he said. "I want to be comfortable with the surroundings. I have to like my position coach. With Nebraska and South Carolina I feel like I will have a pretty good relationship with the position coach at both."

One factor that should play to our advantage is depth. Nebraska's '07 class included 3 running backs, all rated 3 stars or higher. They also allready have a 3 star running back for the '08 class. We, on the other hand, just have Brian Maddox and Eric Baker from the '07 class, and no one for the '08 class. Womble needs to consider the prospects of getting playing time being 1 of 5 running backs with just a year between.

Womble: USC Visit "Best I've Had"
By Matt Long
RB Jamal Womble of Sierra Vista, AZ was at USC today for an unofficial visit, and said that he enjoyed it. "We took a tour of the campus and the athletic facilities, we met Coach Spurrier, and Coach Gillespie was with us the whole time," Womble said, "It was the best college tour I've had so far. I loved the academics, the coaches, the weight room, I loved it." Womble was at Wake Forest on Sunday for a camp in the morning, and toured the campus that afternoon. "It was a great visit," Womble said, "I didn't expect it be as good as it was. It was a nice surprise." Womble will be at Duke on Friday and UNC on Saturday to wrap up his summer visits. He has already scheduled an official visit back to South Carolina for its game against Clemson on November 24. He will also make an OV to Nebraska on September 16. "I haven't cut out any schools yet," Womble said, "But South Carolina's definitely moving to the top." Womble also has offers from Oregon St, Wisconsin, Purdue, Arizona State, Illinois, Indiana, Duke, Central Florida, Nevada, Army, and Utah, among others.

How can we hold off on other rb's, waiting for Womble.
You can always get a RB, but not often do you get one with the talent of Mr. Womble. With our limited number of scholarships to give out, it is worth waiting for him to decide. His opportunity is knocking, all he need do is answer and take advantage of it.

Let me let the board know that as of right now USC is Jamal's top choice.
I deal with the family on a daily basis on their recruitment, setting visits etc.
After speaking with father right after visit & a follow-up with Coach Gillip it's going to be hard for another program to top USC.
With that said the family wants to finish up their Carolina's tour with DUKE today and North Carolina on Sat before returning to AZ

Evidently loved it. Now has them along with us and Nebraska as High Interest. Whatever. If he wants to play football for a basketball school in front of a helf empty stadium, then so be it. I say we REALLY need to start focusing on other backs. I see this one going to February. I think it is very important for us to get a early commit from a RB. I know we have Brian but he is only one and all of our other backs are upper classmen. With Baker going to Prep you just never know how that will shake out. Anyone ever thought we might be better off RS Bobby Wallace? If I am not mistaken he still has his RS left.

Sorry for the delay and getting everyone an update..
As of right now here's his order as I know it.
I just recieved an inquiry call from another program from the East coast about his status, so you may see a few more offers come in.
USC
UNC
Nebraska
Wisconsin
Wake Forest
To be honest it's really a race between the top 2 Carolina teams
If Notre Dam offered & Jamal/family had a chance to visit the campus and such they would be in the top 5
Jamal's father is military and may be shipped off to the war before the end of the year.
If that happens the mother and lil sister will more then likely move back to the NC area where the mothers from.
So add that to the combination of good football, chance to play early and you have him in your area.
Now they would like to be able to wait and have him take the visit experience just to finalize things, because this is really going to be a family decision more then anaything.
I know schools that are only taking one back this year can't afford to wait
& would love the early commitment, so it something falls thruogh with a program I thin khe will be ok.
They understand the programs point of view and can't/won't be upset if they have to go with a different RB because of timing.

Besides a great football state, SC is also a great military state. Navy, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard bases throughout the State. Plus, a military academy - The Citadel.
I would love to see him here just because I know he comes from our military family. Also, being a military brat is not the easiest way of life for teenagers so you know he has good qualities.

I have seen this kid play and I am telling you he will be a recruiting steal for whoever picks him up. Big, strong, fast with some football smarts to go with it. His best friend Muasau a big WR was also looking at SC. Don't know how that has panned out so far but he already has an offer fron Nebraska. I hope we get this kid. We could become a smash mouth ball team with him and Mattocks back there. I doubt he would leave AZ before he graduates as he is also a member of their outstanding basketball team.

I think the fact that he is attending our Clemson game will bode well for us. It is our biggest rivalry game and the last offcicial visit he will make.
He is visiting Nebraska for the Southern Cal game which could get ugly. That was always my regret with some of Coach Holtz's big recruting weekends. He used to bring the big names in for a Tennessee or Florida game in which we would get plastered. I always thought it did more damage than good.

Jamal Womble attended camps at North Carolina, Wake Forest and Arizona during the summer and his first official visit will be to Nebraska on September 14 - the weekend of the USC game. "I like the offense and the coaches at Nebraska a lot," he said. "They have really turned it around and are a great team. I love their tradition and history and that they are a well-respected program..."
Jamal Womble (http://southcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=184&p=8&c=1&nid=2618396), the 5-foot-10.5, 215-pound three-star running back from Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Ariz., has already scheduled official visits to South Carolina (http://southcarolina.scout.com/), Nebraska (http://nebraska.scout.com/) and Wisconsin (http://wisconsin.scout.com/), and plans to set one up with North Carolina (http://northcarolina.scout.com/) shortly.
Womble has approximately 20 scholarship offers and denies a favorite amongst the four he plans to visit. "I'm going to commit after I take my four visits," Womble said. "I want to make sure I see it all. I want to compare everything and just see what the best for me is."
He attended camps at North Carolina, Wake Forest (http://wakeforest.scout.com/) and Arizona (http://arizona.scout.com/) during the summer and his first official visit will be to Nebraska on September 14 - the weekend of the USC game. "I like the offense and the coaches at Nebraska a lot," he said. "They have really turned it around and are a great team. I love their tradition and history and that they are a well-respected program."
Womble, ranked No. 55 in the Southwest by Scout.com, then visits Wisconsin on November 10 (Michigan (http://michigan.scout.com/) game). "I love their tradition too," he said. "They are short-handed at running back and really need more. I think I could fill the void well and get a chance to play early."
On November 24, Womble will visit South Carolina when Clemson (http://clemson.scout.com/) is in town for what may be his final official visit. "It's a great area and lot of fun," Womble said. "I like coach Steve Spurrier (http://southcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=184&p=8&c=1&nid=1636368) and he said they really like me. He's a very excited and passionate guy and just seems anxious for the season to start. They said that I'd be a good all-purpose back for them."
Womble says that North Carolina is recruiting him the hardest. "I like coach Butch Davis and it's a great place," he said. "They have a beautiful campus and I think that they'll be improving a lot under coach Davis. I get handwritten letters from like five of their coaches and they even write my parents.
"I also have family all over North Carolina and am pretty familiar with the area."
He reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 1560 SAT.

Womble Cuts Down The List
By Phil Kornblut
RB Jamal Womble (5-11 221) of Sierra Vista, AZ has cut his list to a final nine and has settled on four of his official visits. Womble said the surviving schools are USC, North Carolina, Maryland, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Oregon State, Arizona State, Illinois and Purdue. There is no favorite though he added that "North Carolina is recruiting me real hard right now." Womble said he talks regularly with USC recruiter Robert Gillespie who texted him Monday to get his e-mail address since recruiters can no longer send text messages as of August 1st. Womble has scheduled official visits with Nebraska September 16th, Wisconsin November 10th and USC November 24th. He also will take an official visit to North Carolina. USC also is interested in Womble's teammate, DB/WR Jake Muasau (6-1 215) and plans to look at more film of him. Muasau has an offer from Nebraska according to Womble.

If by trap game you mean were gonna get looking past them and to a tougher opponent, which could end up with an upset, I dont really think that'll happen. Spurrier's already talked about making a North vs South rivalry, and I know a lot of the players and fans personally want to beat the Tarholes.
It would do great for our chances of getting him if we beat UNC and Clemson.

Womble Set On Four Visits
By Phil Kornblut
RB Jamal Womble (5-11 221) of Sierra Vista, AZ has three official visit dates set and has decided on a fourth trip. Womble is set to see Nebraska September 14th, Wisconsin Novmeber 9th and USC November 23rd. He also will set an official visit date with North Carolina. He's not sure on his fifth visit. The other schools he's considering are Maryland, Oregon State, Arizona State, Illinois and Purdue. "Recruiting has died down, it's not as hectic as it was," Womble said. "Me and coach Gillespie (USC), we e-mail each other about every other day. He tells me about how camp is going and how practice is going." Womble said the Gamecocks remain interested in his teammate, WR/FS Jake Muasau (6-1 215). "They like his highlight tape but they are waiting on game film," Womble said.

He is one of my favorite backs in this class and i would be really happy if we landed him. Him or harper are the two i like the most that we have a shot at. I agree. This kid does seem pretty awesome and would be a great fit for the offense. I think Womble is our best shot at a top notch RB in this class with Harper being a long shot for us. I agree, I know kids like to compete and say that I'm better than so and so but I think sitting on the bench for a few years is tough in this day and age when the truly awesome talents go pro after 3 years.

Whoa fellas.... did y'all read that I said depending on how his arm develops? Right now he's just a really athletic guy, but if he shows he can throw the ball a la Vince Young or Steve Young or athletic quarterbacks that can actually throw (unlike Michael Vick), then he has no reason to stay past his junior year. I actually want him to become a sick nasty quarterback, so that when we beat them the next 2-3 years that he's there we can say yeah Tebow may be this incredible sombitch, but he can't handle that Birds of Prey defense.

In the earlier post I mentioned an official visit the weekend of Sept 7th. That would be for Wake Forest if they offered.
You may have noticed that Moody has UNC in his final 2, well if he chooses UNC that would diff lower them in his selection group essentially leaving USC at this time.
Friday's night game was UGGGGLLLYY to say the least. I cant defend against a good team, but to say no line play no rushing.
Lots of variables in this game, no head coach until halftime, 4 jr's on offensive line, 42 man roster vs an extremely talented and aggressive opponent in Hamilton,
Final stats 11 carries for 38 yrds

small rosters against a deep squad make it very difficult. I remember getting stomped by Summerville one night, they were running three deep on the sideline.

The coveted running back's night would have been much better if not for a 50-yard touchdown catch and a 53-yard score that were both called back because of penalties.

I would say UNC & USC are about the same.
We just finished his official visit schedule
Boston College (Sep 8th) Neb (Sept 14), N Car (Oct 6), Wisc (Nov 10),
S Car (Nov 24),
Neb is a non-factor, he's going to support his teammate who has an offer from NEB and he knows more attention will come Jake's way if he's there.
He'll be making his choice the 1st week of Dec

I looked at Womble's highlights and he looks like a great back. I would think that he would pick up some more stars.
He seems like a really good guy too. In one of the videos it states that he is wanting to pursue either communications or business. I think that he may be interested in our business program, that does bode well for us.
If he is going to Nebraska to look out for his team mate, that is awesome.

GOODJAM,
Please let us know what is so appealing aout UNC for Womble? The fan support is gone as soon as they lose a game, always has been that way, and the SEC is much much more of a football conference than the ACC. It will take Davis at least 3 more years to get those guys to a level to just compete, minimum. I just don't understand the football appeal about playing for UNC. I have been to several games their, my brother in law works for the University and many of their games might have had 20,000 or less there. Personally, from a straight football perspective of UNC, I just don't see the appeal at all. UNC is a basketball school plain and simple.

What percentage of the truly great HS footbal prospects do you think seriously worry about the educational aspects....Truth is a solid student can educate himself as well at South Carolina as anywhere else...An undisciplined apathetic student can get a sorry education at Harvard...But Harvard certainly looks better on the resume...UNC is a far cry from Harvard no doubt

One of the main appeals for Jamal & UNC is the location. The main part of his mothers family lives there. Butch Davis has been on top of his recruiting game in contacting Jamal as much as possible. USC RB Coach Gillip is right there as well in keeping in contact with Jamal as well.
As you may have read Jamal had an excellent trip out to BC, but I never expect a player to have a bad official. Nebraka finally contacted Jamal for the 1st time since the Sept 1st date but I dont think he'll be making the trip. Flight scheduling into Lincoln from AZ Saturday morning would not allow him to have quality time with the coaching staff prior to their game versus SoCal.
So depending on the rest of the season he may not make it to Nebraska until Nov 10th vs Kansas State, but he would have to bumped out Wisconsin and maybe move them to Sept 23 since he has a game that Thursday night.
I asked Jamal if he wouldn't mind answering questions from anyone on the site and he doesnt have a problem so feel free to send them over.

I know UNC is close to Family but USC is not far either. My question would be from a Football standpoint, does Jamal think UNC is even close to being ready to compete? Personally, I think the loss to ECU is further evidence that not only are they not close, it will be years. The SEC is big time football in a football conference and LSU showed the ACC's best what I am talking about. We wish Jamal the best though either way, as its obvious our Staff feels Jamal - regardless of the star thing - is the best back we are recruiting. Tell Jamal to keep up the hard work and have a great season. :football:

I'm a big fan of Jamal, but with the recent academic issues USC has faced....it almost seems like its not worth it to try and recruit a kid and allocate a portion of our recruiting resources to him if he's not going to qualify. But if he can turn those grades around and finish his senior year strong......I'd love to have him in garnet and black next year. Hell of a RB

Mrng All, Well another tough lost for Jamal's team>> here are some clips from the newspaper..Regarding the run I'm going to get the film and post it on YOUTUBE for everyone..
*Buena rallied to score the game’s next 21 points to tie the contest at 21, on a 48-yard touchdown run by Jamal Womble so sensational it could only be described as an impression of Marcus Allen’s run in Super Bowl IX — only with five times the broken tackles.
*With one chance to drive for the tying or winning score, the Colts put the ball in Womble’s hands. On the verge of breaking another big run, Womble got hit from behind and coughed up the ball.
*The final carry of the night was a disservice to Womble’s resume. He rushed for 183 yards on 15 carries, and in addition to his death-defying touchdown run to tie the game early in the fourth, he got the Colts on the board in the closing seconds of the first half with a 62-yard run against a Gilbert prevent defense to make it 21-7 going into the half.

I would like to tell Mr. Womble that the people in SC are not any different from the people that he is used to out west. Gamecock football players are looked at like gods here in the state. All the gamecock fans from around the nation know who you are, where you came from, and will root for you to become yet another NFL star coming out of our great up and coming SEC powerhouse. The past two years scar has had two great running backs, that this year will likely both get 1000 yards on the ground and move on into the NFL. C. Boyd will be graduating this year, so you really would have one year here with a senior RB (M. Davis) ahead of you on the depth chart. This would be a full year where you could have tutalage under a future NFL player before being "the man" out of the backfield for the Gamecocks.
You have to see it to believe it. The SEC is called the toughest conference for a reason- the best players play here- the stadiums are louder than anywhere in the country (ask Lee and Herbie)- the women are the hottest (again ask Lee and Herbie)- and above all, our fans are 100% gung-ho Gamecock Football.
You should be able to tell the difference between the Saturday atmosphere at any SEC school (- Vandy, - Kentucky) and the biggest stadiums outside of the conference. It is night and day.
To cap it off, you would get to play for Steve Spurrier, the most winning coach in the SEC of all time. He is bringing in the recruits and the facilities are being improved. All we need are guys like you: guys that are strong willed, smart, and ready to give their all for their team and career.
I hope that this gives you some perspective (from a fan's standpoint) of what we think of you and what we think that you could do for our program. The ball is in your court at this time, my friend. But I hope one day that I see you carrying the ball on my beloved Gamecock field.
Thank you for your time. and Go Cocks!

Goodjam, I have a question for Jamal. When I played I played defensive end and offensive guard. I was small but I was quick and fearless. Ask Jamal whether he prefers taking a deep pitch and picking his holes up the middle on a dive or whether he prefers to go outside following a pulling guard on a trap play. Thanks!

SIERRA VISTA — Every time Rincon thought it was going to make a game of it Thursday night, it received a lethal dose of Buena running back Jamal Womble.
The Colts senior deked, sprinted and dazzled his way to 271 yards on 18 carries, scoring four of the team’s five touchdowns, in a 41-20 victory. It was the Buena football team’s first win this season.
The Colts won their Southern Region opener primarily by outrushing the Rangers 301-98 and using big plays. Womble ran the ball for a combined 215 yards on the touchdowns. Buena is 1-0 in region (1-3 overall).
“We made some plays when we were supposed to make them,” Buena head coach Mike Vezzosi said.
Womble rumbled his way to an 80-yard backbreaking score with 2:46 left in the game. He spun 180 degrees off one tackler, then he raced past the safeties for the big score.
“My offensive line got past the first line, the fullback (David Alexander) got to the second line,” Womble said. “After that, I was one-on-one and I did my thing.”
This was the play after Rincon quarterback Tommy Stubbins snuck in a 1-yard TD run to cut the Colts’ lead down to 20-13.
While Womble dominated the second half — the senior’s three touchdowns were for 193 yards — receiver/punt returner Jake Muasau took over the first half.
Muasau, who like Womble has been offered a scholarship by the University of Nebraska, set up Womble’s first touchdown.
With 6:20 left in the first quarter, Muasau got past a cornerback and just reached over him to catch a 34-yard pass thrown by quarterback Taylor Stone.
Womble took care of the rest, scampering outside and 24 yards to paydirt as he was only touched twice on the run. Buena took a 7-6 lead it never relinquished.
Muasau ran two punt returns for a combined 58 yards, which led to two field goals in the second quarter off the left toe of Brandon Porter.
“They’re our playmakers,” Vezzosi said of Womble and Muasau. “We asked them to make plays and they did it.”
Ranger running back Eric Dang fooled enough Colts on an inside hand-off on a misdirection play to score on a 35-yard touchdown. Buena buttoned up on Dang, because the senior ran for only 31 yards on 12 carries after the TD.
Thirteen seconds into the fourth quarter, Muasau streaked 27 yards into the right side of the end zone for his first touchdown. Muasau, who led the team’s usual postgame ‘haka’ dance after a win, made famous by he and his brother Louie last season, caught the ball as he fell down after he beat his man.
Muasau caught seven of Stone’s nine completions for 92 out of 96 yards.
“I do my thing every time I get the ball,” Muasau said. “I’m looking and I see the left side of the field and I just run.”
To finish off the scoring, Womble ran to his left, saw a wall of linebackers, then he raced to his right for the icing on the cake.
For good measure, it was after Rincon’s last touchdown, a 6-yard pass by backup quarterback Devin Stewart to David Talley.
Stewart earlier picked up a first down on a 13-yard run on fourth-and-10.

Mrng everyone,
The UNC trip will probably be postponed until next week when they play USC.
Flight scheduling is just to hard with Jamal playing on Friday night, then trying to make a noon EST time game.
Honestly it's a two team race USC then UNC, then on the outside Wisconsin, Boston College
If he does visit Nebraska it will just for the experience of being at one of their home games. Myself and his father will probably attend the trip to UNC.
USC visit is still scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend, so the whole family will attend.
There's a chance he may receive an invite into the AA Army game, if that happens the public annoucement will happen at the game, bbut the decision will happen in December before his father leaves.

Womble is a great sprinter that runs a legti 4.4...His break away speed is the reason SOS told him we would not recruit another rb if he committed....Just because he doesn't break every long one doesn't mean he doesn't have break away speed...Heck CJ Spiler didn't have break away speed vs GaTech....Its all about blocking and pursuit angles

Great footwork, has a nose for the ball, a little high sometimes. He looks fast enough to play OLB, but the way he reads the play makes him look better suited for MLB. Didn't really see that many pass coverages (they only threw a couple of screens), but overall, he looks good.

I didn't see where he plays high at all, though I agree with the rest of your assesment. Looks to be physical, fast and athletic. The thing I like the best is he looks to play with a little attitude. My only concern is he looked to be one of the biggest kids on the field. What level of competition does he play against? Have you sent this to our Staff to review? Looks like a solid player to me and we need LB's. Who else is recruiting him at this time?

I only saw two plays where he was even remotely blocked, but he did make the tackle every time. The "plays high" comment...? He was always in great posture, but it looked like he had free reign on the field so was allowed to do and go wherever he wanted to go. It's hard to tell, but he did run laterally very well, but footwork? Hard to tell from this. It would've been a lot more telling if some of those plays showed a tight end peeling off the line and involved in a pass.

Man, is it just me or does this dude look like he has tree trunks for legs? I thik he could run over a friggin elephant. I would LOVE to have a power back like this in our backfield. Our boys Cory and Mike are strong, but with Cory leaving I still think this guy is more of a bulldozer than Mike.

Womble Makes His North Carolina Visit
By Phil Kornblut
RB Jamal Womble (5-11 221) of Sierra Vista, AZ made his official visit to North Carolina over the weekend when the Tar Heels played USC, another team in his final five. And Womble was impressed by his time in Chapel Hill. "North Carolina is out front, by pretty far right now," Womble said Sunday night. "I had a great visit. It's a great atmosphere and a good gameday environment. There are a lot of good people there and I like the coaching staff. I know they want me, I can tell. I talked to coach Davis and we talked about how I'm doing and how he's doing. He talked about why he came to (North) Carolina and how he would use me if I came there." Womble alsol has visited Boston College and will visit Wisconsin November 9th and USC November 23rd. He will set a date with Nebraska for his fifth visit. Thru seven games Womble has rushed for over 1100 yards and 10 touchdowns.

I hate to say it but I can see why they recruit well and why a young man would want to go play there. I thought the atmosphere was good and the crowd was into it. Before we talk about expansion we should continue to "spruce up" our stadium and the surrounding like NC has. Of course I'm going into the game not expecting much but came away impressed. Hopefully we'll blow him away.

I'd still prefer Martin Ward and Franklin Green over him, but whatever.

We gotta put on a show for him when he comes to Columbia to turn his attention to us.

I think we had more to do with their "atmosphere" than he realizes. I'd advise him to make another visit when they play wake or ecu and there's 20k fans in the seats. Too bad if he thinks that's how it is there every week.

True dat. Our fans did make the atmosphere up there pumped up. It would be a waste if he went there.

Afternoon everyone,
I'm justing getting back in the office after horrible flight connections.
As you may have read Jamal really enjoyed his visit at UNC. But as I've advised all my players/parents " I don't ever expect you to have a bad official visit unless snow is involved".
Great atmosphere at the game and as one poster stated USC was diff in the house.
A lot of positives & probably the strongest was UNC playing so many freshman and still having a chance to win the game.
I wish I could make the trip to USC. If they bring the noise like you all say you can the young man & family will have a very hard choice to make.
Jamal will be doing an interview today with Studentsports.com probably in the afternoon

How many young players does UNC have at RB? They seemed to have a different guy carrying the ball every quarter.

DING DING DING!
If he comes for the Clempson game, it'll blow the doors off any other atmosphere for a game he has ever seen.

^ And Florida. Hell, any D1 game in the Brice is better than almost all stadiums in the country. As ESPN says, USC has the most loyal fans. Believe that.

ok i have to ask this. why have people started comparing our running back recruits like this? if he decides to commit somewhere else and says that the negativity by message board fans swayed him away from us, yall will feel pretty sh!++y. especially if we miss out on the other two as well. let the coaching staff decide who is better and who we need to go after.

People are not dissing any prospects, they are giving there opinion as too who they would like to have. If you read the beginning of the thread it sounds like Womble will be a tarhole, so of course people are going to say they want the other guy if Womble doesn't want to come here. If womble commits to USC everyone will forget this and be happy he is a gamecock.
