View Full Version : Do we have a shot in 08?

Honestly, I think that 07 was one of our better teams. I don't know how we're going to be able to fill in where Honeycutt, Hempy, and Pelzer are on the pitching staff. Is there any word about who'll pitch on the Wednesday and Tuesday games? How are we doing on finding a new coach to replace Jim Toman? Personally, I think we had everything fall into place for us to go to Omaha and win. I don't see how we didn't. I hope that whenever we do get back, we can capitalize. Do we have anyone comeing in to play second yet? I'm not good on the baseball scoop for recruiting. Hopefully we'll find guys who can take over and quickly.

Has Pelzer signed yet?

With Tanner, we always have a chance. I do believe that it will be tougher next year though.

Pelzer hasn't signed yet (to my knowing) ... are we really worried about who's going to pitch during the week next year at this time in life?? i dunno ... we're not one of the top teams in the country for nothing ... we'll find a replacement for Toman ... as far as we had everything in place to win it this year ... i don't agree on ... we had WAY too much drama around the team this year ... and i wont say that it was losing the players that hurt ... but that distraction is around the time the team started this roller coaster ... going into the season we HAD everything lined up ... with how the team ended up ... honestly we might have went further than most teams would have in the same situation

I have to admit that I'm not overly optimistic about our chances next season, but it's a long way off so we'll see.

Pitching is the least of our worries. But the answer is YES.

when you bring in top recruiting classes year after year after year...like we did this year again you always have a chance

Neff’s decision provides some sunlight. A hard-throwing left-hander who struck out 117 and only walked 29 during his senior season with the Bruins, Neff is one of four southpaws the Gamecocks signed as part of the country’s No. 1 recruiting class.

It might be a good thing to have lower expectations for a change.

Of course we have a shot in 08! This team has become one of the better powerhouses in college baseball in the 2000's. I think that if we have a shutdown closer next year, we have the ability to beat any team in the country. It all begins with hiring a great assistant coach, though.

Bottom line. Better pitching and we will be right back in the hunt like we always are.

If Oregon State hasn't answered this question no amount of logic I post will. Of course we will be fine. Will we win it all? Who knows...highly unlikely considering you have to have luck and that is the one area we lack...but it is baseball and you never know.

Wells lets think Smoak, Darnell, Havens, Disher and probably Crisp and Kline on top of that yes we have a shot, If we get any pitching at all.

Our offense will be fine. Its the starting pitching and bullpen we will need to have to take it all.

Yes...there is always a chance. If you get hot at the right time, you can win it. While it may not be the whole shebang, Furman came into the SoCon tourney 3 years ago as the last team in the tourney with just a few wins and proceeded to win the conf tourney and make the CWS. It is all a matter of who hits well and who throws well at what time.

so from what everyone seems to be saying, pitching is the only thing we have to worry about. has anyone got any info on who we're goin after or whose commited to us?

thanks, it's just hard to know who those guys are when baseball gets neglected like it always does.

I'd like to think anything is possible.
