By Phil Kornblut
On Recruiting
Published: March 15, 2007
ATH Tony Morgan (6-1 190) of Garner, NC has been to junior days at USC, Clemson and NC State and hopes to go to Virginia later this month. USC, Clemson and North Carolina have offered and he's also hearing from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Auburn, Tennessee, NC State, Penn State and Virginia. "South Carolina leads, but Clemson is right in there with them," Morgan said. "I like Steve Spurrier. He did great things with the Gators and he's trying to do the same at South Carolina. And it would be nice to play with (former teammte) Chris Culliver again." Morgan said he won't make his decision until after the season. Morgan played defensive back last season and had 83 tackles with 3 interceptions and 5 tackles for loss. He played running back as a sophomore rushing for 850 yards and 7 touchdowns

is CC's head coach from HS coming to USC, or is it an asst HS coach? Are GAs even paid? I heard this rumor a while back ... would this be a big move for a HS coach?

Its an assistant Coach from Culliver's HS thats joining our staff as a grad assistant...NO they don't get paid...Basically they are like apprentices...If tehy do well as a GA, they hired whn staff positions open up...David Reaves was a GA under Holtz before Lou promoted him to full time Asst Coach

I think he will be either a LB or RB not sure though 3 or 4 stars I think. Same High School as Culliver.

this kid runs a 4.41 forty and i think wants to play db, even though some are recruiting him as rb. He will probably be a 3 star with a good shot at 4 if he has a great sr season.

I checked over at ESPN and they have him listed as a Safety and on their TOP 150 watch list. So we can expect him to be anywhere from low 5 to high 3.

Morgan Moving Closer To Commitment
By Phil Kornblut
USC remains the leader for ATH Tony Morgan (6-1 190) of Garner, NC who is eyeing an end of summer commitment. "North Carolina is right behind them (USC), but they still have a little edge." Morgan attended a USC camp a couple of weeks ago. "I loved it down there," he said. "I'm being recruited as an athlete. I played receiver, defensive back and running back at the camp. Coach Lawing told me if I go there he would like to play me at defensive back." Morgan said his top three are USC, North Carolina and East Carolina. He has camped at all three and has no more camp visits planned. He also has offers from Clemson, Colorado and Marshall.

Man Morgan is one of the guys I want bad. He is one of those players that can be on the field at almost any skill position. You can't go wrong with someone like that. I think he is underated right now and after the season unfolds he will come out with a better ranking if the recruiting services do their job.

hey guys i heard from some sources that our coaches want him pretty bad, and that he will most likely play DB. They said this kid is super physical and is just a big time gamer. They said he just makes plays no matter what position he is in. And to top it off they said he is a great kid, and would be a great team mate.

Athletic graduate assistants get the same deal as academic graduate assistants do. Of course they have to be enrolled in a masters or PhD program. They get a monthly stipend, books, tuition and lab fees. It's not that much but at least they aren't paying for the privilege of being on campus.
A lot of HS coaches feel they get a better shot at a college job by going this route.

Gamecocks On Verge Of Morgan Commitment
By Phil Kornblut
On Recruiting
Published: July 10, 2007
ATH Tony Morgan (6-1 190) of Garner, NC is getting close to making a decision, and as things stand right now, USC is in position to land his commitment. "It's getting closer and closer," Morgan said. "I've been sweating out my decision. My final three are South Carolina, North Carolina and East Carolina. I'm hoping to make a decision by the end of the summer at the latest. South Carolina is still out front. You don't know how many times I've thought about committing to them. When I was at camp, I got to see how the coaches coach and I felt like I was part of the team. But I still had to take my time and look into other colleges. North Carolina is right behind them. It's not that big of a difference, but when I went to camp, it gave a slight edge to South Carolina." Morgan said he's being recruited as an athlete but he wants to play defensive back in college.
I know he is a hell of an athlete and I'd love to get him soon to boost our recruiting class' momentum.:football:

According to Rivals he ran his shuttle at 4.4. He is a good sized kid. 6'1" and 188 lbs. / 4.5 forty / 27 inch vert. / Ranked 23 out of the top 30 players at any position in NC. (rated as a three star right now)
He puts on another 10-15 pounds and Coach Mark Smith gets ahold of him and he could be a real good DB. We know he is athletic enough (hence the Athlete designation) and he certainly is big enough. 4.5 shaved down to 4.4 by the time he gets to college (almost a year an a half from now) and you have yourself a really nice looking DB prospect.

From Rivals, he does not have a USC offer and list us as low interest. Unless someone knows anything different. I do agree that if we offer that he would give us a strong look. We could definetly use him in the secondary.

Found this in a free article by Scouts.Inc's Billy Tucker on espn.com's recruiting page about Tony Morgan (high school teamate of Chris Culliver).
With all the Streeter/D.L. Moore dramas going on, he's hasn't gotten a lot of pub lately.
Says its between USC and East Carolina---anyone have any info?
At defensive back, Tony Morgan (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=46765) looks to stay in the Carolinas (either South Carolina or East Carolina) and would be a great land at both because this hybrid corner/safety's great scheme versatility may have caused him to be overlooked.
