That kid's a little stud. Did you see him switch the ball back and forth from arm to arm based on where the defender was? Pretty good instincts for that age.

I used to live in Thunderbolt - a section of "Midtown" savannah 2 blocks from Daffin Park. Its very cool - very big green space downtown - and the A ball club Savannah Sandgnat's baseball park is there. We used to go over there every Summer/Fall and watch the 10 or so PeeWee games that would be played all at once (diff age groups) ... its easy to pick out who the next MVP is going to be. Some of those kids are ligh years ahead of the others even at that age ...

Let's be straight up.

The kid is FAST. There's no doubt.

What this video shows me, though, is there are a lot of coaches out there who have no clue how to teach a kid to TACKLE.

Watch the video again and see how many times the ball carrier gets away from an arm grab or someone failing to wrap up his legs. I'm telling ya', unless you go up against Ed Jones or Joe Greene, anytime a defender goes for the shoulder pads you're gonna get more yards.

Rarely if ever do you see a ball carrier get more yards when a defender has both arms wrapped around the knees or the ankles.

Again, I'm not taking anything away from #5's speed or his ability to make a cut. What's so telling, though, about this video is how kids are not getting the grasp of fundamental football: blocking and tackling. It's not hard.

Then again, I also know one of the hardest things to do when a pee wee footballer is getting it through your head that it's OK to put your face down into some running and pumping ankles and legs. It takes nerve.

Is this is what recruiting has come to? A 12 year old with a "MySpace" site(with horrible comments at that). His parents are OK with that? Sick. I didn't think 12 year olds were allowed on "MySpace"

Another pop warner kid even younger with highlights and people wanting to recruit him also?

Sad. This is getting worse and worse.

Are we hurting this bad for the next great-white-hype/hope? Don't get me wrong, that's a darn talented kid, but good grief. I know some of the references to recruiting, etc. are at least a little bit in jest.

As for the comments by friends, etc. on myspace...that sounds like something a bar of soap and a belt could fix.

Either way, pretty sad.

It is obvious that this kids parents (especially his father) have DRILLED this young man on the fundamentals of football from a very early age (3-5 years old). Having helped coach Pop Warner age for several years this is nothing unusual. Every year that I coached in that age bracket, there was always two or three kids in the league that were head and shoulders above the rest of the league in Talent and athletic ability.

Sad. ThisLet's be straight up

This could not be a more accurate statement! . . . I’ve seen hundreds of grownups approach these children’s parents after games and tell them their child will be a stud for (insert college name here), only to see most of the kids never play at the High school level. I don’t recall any of these kids signing a LOI for a major university. 12 years old is way too early to start giving these kids any consideration for college scholarship offers.

The thing I find most disturbing here however is that it is also obvious the parents who taught this child some good football fundamentals here, are also making plans on how to spend the millions they’ll make off of this kid’s NFL contract. They will also push the kid where to play college and doing all this by marketing this kids Pop Warner Talent over the internet with Hip Hop music steeped in vulgar lyrics and invite comments fitting of that garbage !!
Here we are on an internet fan site talking about (to the point of arguing) why an 18 year old kid can’t seem to avoid “friends” who draw gunfire, drugs and other criminal activity and we have parents forcing that kind of atmosphere on their child to get him noticed. It’s bad enough when kids grow up in that type of environment with no adult supervision. You’d think grownups could see the results and teach their kids to avoid that lifestyle, but here we have parents who raise their kids to engulf that music and language and display it like a medal of honor. . .and then it’s up to highschool and college coaches to discipline their behavior once they’re in charge of them . . . . . . DISGUSTING !!!!

Its just for entertainment, so watch him break some ankles and enjoy.

Hey Spurticus, I was just wondering what ususally happens to these child stars. Do they usually get burnt out or is it more that their teammates catch up? Just wondering, since as a coach and (hopefully) eventual parent, I'd like to avoid showering my kid with the same obsession I have. It's actually gotten to the point that most D1 lacrosse coaches have said that they prefer multisport athletes over kids that just focus on one sport year round just because of the stuff that can be learned and focused on in the other sports.

At any rate, I think Brinkley can take this guy...

Spurred4Life

boo him, and his parents, at that age it's supposed to be about the fun and learning the game. I don't coach Little league because I think think that Spurrier is going to call me up one day and ask me my philosophy on the wing t (although you never know) I do it for several reasons; one I love football, two I like kids(not like Michael), and it's fun.

They were talking about this kid on my local sports talk radio here in Florence and apparently he has moved to somewhere in North Carolina and is playing varsity ball there. I wonder if we shouldn't start recruiting him early. :rotfl:
