View Full Version : What type of TV service do you have?
I have DirecTV and am VERY HAPPY with it.
I am in LOVE with Sunday Ticket, LOVE the HD games with Extra Innings, March Madness HD, and other sporting events on DirecTV.
Also have had very good experiences with their installers (though others have had some horror stories with them) and their Customer Service isn't half bad and give me LOTS of free stuff (got 3 months of Showtime HD/HBO HD for online troubles).
Curious what others got.
I had Cox Cable before DirecTV and hated it. I hated it.

I have cable. Not crazy about it but it does the job. I get all the packages too, so it is not cheap.
I could probably do a lot better with dish but have 8 TVs in my house and don't want to be limited in what I can do with them.

Since you guys are on the subject, I have a couple questions. I have a tight budget, but I want to get a digital service and add a HD package. What do you guys recommend? Cable, Dish Network or DirectTV? I have 2 tv's in my house.

Honestly, everyone is different.
Mother/Father have Cable and enjoy it.
Me and My sister have DirecTV and love it.
Friends have Dish and love it.
I think the kicker for me was Sports.
On DirecTV, you get the Sunday Ticket, MLB HD games, March Madness, ext...and you don't have to worry about DirecTV arguing with tv channels money wise.
I hated that Cox was always arguing with either CBS, ESPN, or TNT or whoever.
But, everyone has different Cable in their area.
DirecTV is going to have a lot more HD channels in the next few months as their new sat is up and soon to be active.

I have Directv and have not had problems through year one. Unlike TimeWarner which had problems at least every few months. Well for me at least.

I forgot to mention HD when I mentioned cable. Charter absolutely sucks as far as HD goes. We didn't even have ABC until about a month ago.

Before I moved into my house I had Time Warner with the HD and Sport package. I thought i would save money by going with them because I would bundle my internet with the digital cable. Well, I ended up paying around $165/mth.
If you don't mind my asking, about how much do those of you that have satellite pay per mth?

Directv here and I've been very happy with it. You have to get the TIVO..it's awesome. Also the customer service at Directv is good. They hiked my rates at the beginning of the year and I called to complain. I threatened to switch to Time Warner (although I never would have) and they lowered my bill by $10 a month.

I agree!
We have 1 DVR, the HD tier, digital tier, and HBO. Along with Road Runner our bill is like $110 a month!
Ouch...no ESPN college gameplan for me.

Ouch...no ESPN college gameplan for me.I have three cable boxes in my home. Two of them have the HD Converter box.
I do not have any premium channels and it still runs me $93/Month.
Luckily...My wife's company picks up the Business Class Road Runner so I guess we get a break there.
Still........$93/Month for Three Boxes without Premium Channels is a little High IMO

Wow, that road runner BC really saves your butt! lol you'd be out damn near $150 w/o premium channels!
I'm thinking of dropping our HBO, I mean we got the blockbuster online thing, so we're not exactly hard up for movies.

I read where you can have up to three movies at a time for about $16
That is an option I might take a look at.

To me, the big advantage of Blockbuster is the fact that I can drive 3 minutes to the store, turn in my envelope, and get a free movie. As soon as the clerk scans the envelope, my list is updated and Blockbuster will send the next movie in my queue. I don't have to wait for them to get it back in the mail. I have the one movie at a time plan, because my fiance and I only watch movies about twice a week. It works out nice, because we can watch one Friday night, take it to the store on Saturday/Sunday, watch that one, and by the time we go back to turn in the movie we got from the store, the next movie from BB online is in the mail. NEVER ENDING MOOOOVIES!! lol

Sounds like you take out the Wait time by doing it that way rather than waiting for the mail to arrive everyday.
Thanks!!

Yep. And just imagine if you had the 2 or 3 at a time plan. You'd have more movies than you know what to do with, lol. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, you also get one coupon per month that is good for a movie or game rental. I love that part, because 360 games are freaking 8 bucks a pop. I guess it's worth it though, cause you can have it for 2 weeks and they won't charge a fee
8-)

With more HD channels being added by mostly every company, the prices will continue to rise, rise, & rise in the next few years.

Is it true that SEC games are to be split between cable and satilite? My wife also heard on sports tv that the time for the La-La game on Sept 1 had been changed to 5:30. Does any know for sure?

I just moved into my house last week, got DishNetwork hooked up. They have a killer first-time customer package with a free daul-turner HD-DVR receiver. It runs two tvs with one box. Free 6 months HD channels, free 3 months HBO/Cinemax and their package price I went with beat DirecTV by about $24/month.
Changing channels with DirecTV is like surfing the web on dial-up. It takes 3-4 seconds for the channel to come up. Dish channels pop up instantly.
I had DirecTV for about 10 yars, since I was in highschool, and now that I'm on my own I wish I would've had Dish a lot sooner.

You have jusy aboarded the worst trip i ever took in my life. Dish network BLOWS! Sorry! I never got reception good and it would freeze up some. After two months i switched to cable, they shipped me the wrong boxes to send my HD reciever back and after repeat calls to them again and again, i still never got the box to ship it, Guess what did happen though? they debitted my acccount 400 dollars and i have yet to get it back. By far the worst company i have ever dealt with. Highly recommend you reconsider, and those HD channel s they got me with that too. They all suck, and you don;t get regular Channels. The price is dramatically affected by the mail in rebates, that never come back
I thought of Dish but I just couldn't do without Sunday Ticket or MLB Extra Innings
