Columbia, S.C. - South Carolina head baseball coach Ray Tanner (http://uscsports.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/tanner_ray00.html) has announced the hiring of Sammy Esposito as Volunteer Assistant for the baseball team. Esposito comes to Columbia after two seasons on the Georgia Southern staff. A four-year letterwinner at NC State, Esposito is the son of former NC State head coach Sam Esposito, who coached Tanner during his playing days. Tanner also served on Esposito's staff from 1981-87 before becoming his successor with the Wolfpack.
"I'm thrilled to add Sammy to our coaching staff," said head coach Ray Tanner (http://uscsports.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/tanner_ray00.html). "He is a great young coach, who will bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to our program."
In addition to his two seasons with Georgia Southern, Esposito has also been involved with several baseball camps in the Southeast Region including at South Carolina, NC State and Richmond. Esposito is currently serving as an assistant coach in the Cape Cod League for the Yamouth-Dennis Red Sox. Y-D begins the Cape Cod playoffs on Friday and enters postseason play with the best record in the league at 31-12-1.
"I'm very excited to join Coach Tanner's staff at the University of South Carolina," said Sammy Esposito. "This is a tremendous opportunity to work with great coaches, great players and one of the best programs in the country."
Esposito graduated from NC State with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. He attended Broughton High School in Raleigh, N.C. where he was a two-time All-Conference selection in baseball.

The 4th coach in baseball is a volunteer job as only 3 can be paid. Monte Lee was it the last few years. Most of them are teachers in K-12 or something like that to put food on the table.

Cool. Did not know about that. Is that an NCAA rule? Thanks for the info.
