View Full Version : The Concept Logo!

I feel like I'm kinda out in the cold on this one but I just noticed "Hail Thee Carolina"(the poster) had a block C with a different Gamecock logo inside it. Then in the Wallpaper thread over on the multimedia forum there was a wallpaper with this "concept logo".

For those in the know could you tell me how this logo was started up or where it came from. I think it is bad a**, and would like to see some more images of it!

I have wondered

I think it was one of a few he just made up.
He's pretty talented with those. I actually like that design myself, but I'm not for changing it on our uniforms. I'm a semi-traditionalist and would like to see us keep the Block C with the old school Gamecock we have now. I would however make the logo we have now, bigger than what it is. (My Opinion)

I'm not in favor of changing anything on our uniforms or anything like that. I just really like that design a lot and it is quite different.

I've been debating a gamecock tatoo for about 11 years now and think that concept design would look very nice and different.

not bad, but it looks like an upside down Falcons logo.

About 25 years ago Lou Brierley at the College Of Journalism created a new logo and it looked very similar to this one. He was all hip to the athletic department adopting it. His logo also had a slanted "C" not quite as blocked at the one now.

Anyway, in 1982 Bob Marcum came along and Brierley almost thought he had it sold. What really killed the deal was when Marcum was given an estimate to replace ALL the logos around the stadium, the Roost, campus and elsewhere. The whole thing died.

Prof. Brierley went so far, though, as to get Velvetex to make up some nice bumper stickers and he placed an ad in the GAMECOCK to get feedback from the students. The reaction was at best tepid.

What's wrong with the one we have now? I can't stand it when schools change logo's all the time.

The block letter c logo is classic. I would be really pissed if we changed it.

It my understanding that Holtz hated it and almost had it completely replaced by that awful interlocking USC... that god Spurriers on board with keeping the block letter c logo

This thread wasn't meant to cause an uproar about changing our logo or anything else. I was just interested in the origin of this one.

I never said this was a new logo adopted by our school, I just liked the design and wondered who made it and wanted to see some more photos of it. Theres nothing wrong with different creations of the gamecock, just like I like the gamerooster head that cockytalk uses. I think this thread got misunderstood and if it did my apologies to the creator of logo!

its a great picture... but I think that it should remain just that... a picture. The block C is what Carolina fans of my generation has grown up to know. Keep it the way it is... or try it out on another squad or team like the basketball or hockey teams... it may work for them.

It looks good (it's been floating around CT for a while I believe, orginally created by WHTC). But as they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I would HATE to see them change the logo on the helmets. The Block C with the traditional Gamecock IS Carolina football.

The only way Id want the helmet decal to be changed is we went to a garnet helmet, then Id want the interlocking SC logo on the baseball caps right now.

Posting this in response to the other posters, as I know the creator of this thread was not saying he thinks the logo should have been changed.

Thank God he does not want this to be changed because that logo sucks. We should just use what we have in all forums.

Both of you suck and I'm sure you both look hideous! I'm sorry I ever posted this thread, people just don't read into what they are talking about!

The thread was meant to find out who drew the image up and to see some more of it. Never was meant to start an uprising to change our our official logos we all love. D*mn!

i dunno...this guy probably tried to introduce this logo when everything was "unchangeable"; very traditional. Spurrier has kind of flipped the script on that. Who would have thought we would have adopted new uniforms???? i sure as heck didn't. guess what...everybody loves the new change.

If the guy was smart (which i'm sure he is), he should ride this "change" train with his logo again...I'm sure a lot more people would notice seeing as a lot is changing around here.

I LIKE IT. I love our logo now...its all I have ever known.

i personally like the concept logo, but take a look at all the logos...Texas, So. Cal, ND, UF, UGA, UT, and the list goes on...they are all classic and everyone knows what our block C looks like...i personally say keep the block C forever

I didn't make this logo.. It was first used on those little banners that we got at the stadium during a day game two years ago. One side said "Cock-N-Fire" and the other side said something else with that on it. Someone recreated it and posted it on here and I took it and made the wallpaper.

I personally think the logo is cool, but definately not cool enough to replace our block C, way too much history there.

Here it is with the block C (I believe it was CockyHoskins who first posted/created this)

For some reason, that reminds me of the Louisville Cardinal.

I was actually the one who vectorized the logo and posted it here...then it was taken on further to wallpapers, etc later on. I just saw it at a game on a banner, found the pic on line, then tried my best to vectorize it from the image I found.

I think it might look good with the UA uniforms.
