If you have anymore to add, please do. In my coaching book, I have some more, but these will do for now. For the record, I have two favorite quotes. One is by Lombardi himself, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." I'm trying to find the other because it's long, and I can't remember it all; it starts: "Football is for the uncommon player, with the uncommon capacity for commitment." Anyways, here they are:
"At Georgia Southern, we don't cheat. That costs money and we don't have any."
Erk Russell / Georgia Southern.
"Football is only a game. Spiritual things are eternal. Nevertheless, Beat Texas."
Seen on a church sign in Arkansas prior to the 1969 game.
"After you retire, there's only one big event left....and I ain't ready for that."
Bobby Bowden / Florida State
"The man who complains about the way the ball bounces is likely to be the one who dropped it."
Lou Holtz / Arkansas
When you win, nothing hurts."
Joe Namath / Alabama
"Motivation is simple. You eliminate those who are not motivated."
Lou Holtz / Arkansas
"If you want to walk the heavenly streets of gold, you gotta know the password,
Bear Bryant / Alabama
"A school without football is in danger of deteriorating into a medieval study hall."
Frank Leahy / Notre Dame
“There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."
Woody Hayes / Ohio State
Ok. The rest didn't paste like I wanted them too. Add your favorites if you want.

This is one that the head coach at the school I coached at my first year used... its a Vince Lombardi quote... it goes: "Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, We may catch excellence." This would be a good quote for us, the gamecock nation, to hold true to. if we dont get it all... at least we made strides to get to it.

My senior year at Practice in high school we had a problem with a player on scout team. He didn't want to listen to the coaches all he wanted to do was throw down the blocking dummy he was suppose to hold and try to make a name for himself by trying to hit the RB/QB in the drills we were running. He was a hefty guy probably weighing about 340. Well after he pissed the coach off enough he decided he wanted to run this kid off. He called the offense to huddle and asked who wanted a piece I said I definately wanted some because I had broken my finger (I didn't know at the time) earlier in the day when he pulled one of his blocking dummy ole's. I went to the other side of the formation and we ran a counter trap back to his side where I would block the first dummy (or man) head up to outside the guard. Well he of course ignored the coach yet again, threw down the dummy, and fell for the fake. When he realized the back he thought had the ball didn't he started to turn back to the inside looking for the ballcarrier. Little did he know I was coming to make him famous and I was pissed. Anyone who has ever played O-line and has ever trap blocked a guy knows what the ideal situation I am talking about is. I hit him full force, left chest, slightly below the numbers face and hands unloading everything I had into him. He flew about 8 yards landing in a semiconcious heap while his sports glasses flew into about three different pieces. As he got up in tears the coach yelled at him and told him he wanted real players on his team not someone who was gonna cry. The guy walked off the field straight to the locker room never to disgrace my team with his presence again. The coach with a smirk on his face returned to the huddle and said his famous quote to us.
Bruce Hill South Aiken high spring 1995- "Damn men, that made me want to go home and have sex with my wife!!!"
It may not be a big thing to some but me and my buddies can't forget it. We still quote that guy alot.
