Chaz is a lb at RNE. I was wondering if you think the coaching staff will offer or not? He plays lb but I read he is the perfect size for a safety and the speed to go along with it. The article says he has 4.6 speed right now but is working with a speed coach to make him even faster.

4.6 SPEED IS NOT GOOD FOR A SAFETY. YOU CANNOT TEACH SPEED. YOU HAVE OR YOU DON'T. 4.6 IS GOOD LB SPEED.

What are you talking about? Of course you can improve on your speed and get faster. People work on it all the time. 4.6 isn't exactly slow. I think if he got it down to 4.5 he would make a perfect safety, or maybe that hybrid position like alonzo winfield.

This kid isn't ranked high at all. His size and speed are good, but how is his vision because that might be the reason for him having no stars.

Very true, and I love seeing all those stars, but I just like to see players around here sign with USC. And remember Ko Simpson was a 2 star player out of Rock Hill, Sidney Rice was a 3 star receiver ranked in the 50's or 60's.

Oh, I know. It doesn't take stars to become a great college player, but he has to be missing something to not be ranked at all, especially with his size.

he doesn't necessarily have to ranked to be good. What a lot of people don't realize, is that a young man's high school coach, ultimately is the deciding factor for him moving on to the next level. In high school, I was 6'4 265, ran a 4.9-5.0 forty, power cleaned 275 lbs, squated well over 550lbs, but, my head coach never contacted a college on my behalf. I had to go to my asst coach who had been with me since 7th grade to make some calls for me and put together a highlight video. Only after brief contact with Skip Holtz, and USC passing on me my senior year, did I get a scholarship to Gardner-Webb. A LOT depends on HS coaches.

I'm surprised Reed Charpia, the head coach of my alma mater and the guy who coached Roddy White, hasn't contacted us (USC) with some film of our center. I played Pee Wee football with him his first year playing and he went from being a big soft kid to being a monster..... and he's going to be a fourth year starter, he's about 6'4 6'5 300-320 lbs and can just straight plow people and has good feet. If he played at Summerville or Fort, I guarantee he would be a high 2 star at the least, but he's done at the AA level where noone seems to give a damn about players (even though my high school produced Tye Hill).

I don't think we'll offer. We'll more likely see him take a local I-AA offer.

yeah, think about the guys who have come out of Union High, and South Carolina has NOT recruited well there, and I think it's b/c of the move to AAA in 1996.

Washington Set On Next Year
By Phil Kornblut
LB Chaz Washington (6-3 197) of Richland Northeast plans to attend Hargrave Prep, VA next season. Washington hopes to improve his academics status as well as his stock with recruiters with a season at the prep school. Washington was a North-South All Star selection this season. He had about 75 tackles with 7 sacks.

He will be around 210 - 220 lbs next time we see him and will be at least a 3 star recruit. If he impresses at Hargrave he will be a premium player next year.

Probly a greta route for C. Washington to take. Problem with possibly playing Safety is we took so many DB's in this class. Not to mention the move of some of the ATH commits and already playing WR to the defensive secondary.
Would love to give this RNE kid a shot at LB. Could possibly with M. Barnes help draw some of the local talent that comes out of RNE.

If he turns out well at prep I like our chances with him and the other guy comin out of RNE next year(can't think of his name) and hopefully Mark Barnes and Rodney Paulk will help us a bit with these two.
Best of luck to Chaz though

You would be talking about Chris Bonds. ;)

I think we have a very good shot at Chris Bonds. Chaz didn't impress very much on the year, I think he ended up with like 70 tackles. I think he'll try and earn a few scholarship offers in his prep school year. I think he's got the potential to be a very good one on the next level and I'd love to have him.

is it not bad for our chances that he is going to Hargrave? I thought we were on the naughty list there after Ladi and Geathers, or am I thinking of another place

Im sure we could take 1 more S next year... IMO we will see balanced classes for the most part from here on out

Did you go to James Island or St. George because those 2 players came from different schools.

How are Reed and his son, Rusty doing these days? If you have contact with Rusty, tell him JStrom asked about him (and point out the movie they recently named after me...I am Legend!).

He that Coach Charpia coached Roddy White... that doesn't mean that Coach Charpia's been at the same school his whole life, or that he even coached him at the high school level.
