USC Offers Georgia Defensive Lineman
By Phil Kornblut
USC is on the board with an offer to DL Randy Salmon (6-3 290) of Stockbridge, GA. Salmon said he got the offer from recruiter Ty Nix last week. "He likes my size and what I do on the field," Salmon said. "I don't have a favorite. I don't want to commit real fast." Salmon also has offers from UAB, Troy and Southern Miss, and he is also hearing from LSU, Purdue, Michigan, Florida and North Carolina. Salmon attended junior days at USC, Clemson, Georgia and Florida State and he might visit North Carolina soon.

Sounds like we are in early on this kid. Nix must realy like him as a d tackle. I wonder what his 40 time is.

Stockbridge’s Salmon impressed with South Carolina
Stockbridge lineman Randy Salmon is inching closer to committing to South Carolina.
Salmon was among the 92,000-plus in attendance on Saturday during the Gamecocks’ victory over Georgia.
“Georgia couldn’t even score [a touchdown],” Salmon said. “South Carolina’s defense is much better than last year. I was happy with what I saw.
“I was telling everybody in the crowd that I’m playing there next year.”
When asked if an official commitment to the Gamecocks is forthcoming,
Salmon said “I haven’t committed yet, but they are number one right now.”

have we offered? ... 2 star lineman, thought we had bigger fish to fry? Surely our staff sees something that the "experts" aren't seeing. He is big, though. Welcome aboard Mr. Salmon, if indeed you come on.

If his grades are in order his stock immediately rises. At this point that is what is holding him back in the star rankings.

well he is 6'2 300lbs and benches 350lbs and squats 505lbs, not bad for a 17 yr old. Nix knows his defensive guys so i dont care what stars we have on that side of the ball bc he has proven to know how to pick his d guys. look at captain and D steward and cook. Both brinkleys, and i can keep going. If Coach Nix wants him hes got to be a steal!!!

From what I understand, he would be highly sought after if not for his grades. He must be busting his behind in the classroom. I'm pulling for the kid and hope he makes it. He really sounds like he wants to be a Gamecock too.

I'm hearing that he's a possible "sign and place" for the JuCo/prep route.

Yep - me too Will. This kid has 4 star talent but the academics - ughhhhh. You never know though. I have seen kids that we thought would never make it make it.

Plus, you can't count on just stars... Sydney Rice was a 3 star and he seemed to work out fairly well for USC (LOL!!). Clemson has a verbal commit from a 6'4''/205LBs/4.6 speed WR named Brandon Ford. He's a 3 star prospect on scout.com and rivals.com, yet he leads the nation in yards receiving yards and TDs and averages 25 yards/catch. Go figure.
Edit: Ford is now listed as 4 star on rivals (still a 3 on scouts)

It would appear he has stepped up and met some academic challenges thus our offer. Hope he continues to do so and is eligible to show up in August. Unfortunately, as I posted elsewhere it was reported in the AJc that BJ Brand of our ol targets is now looking at Troy. Too bad. He would have fit the bill at og one of our critical needs.

Good post. The stars don't mean a whole alot. If the coaches evaluated this Salmon kid and believes he can play in the SEC then that's the only star he needs.

Any news on this guy. I saw on rivals that Salmon has Louisville moving up his list. Where do we stand and will we take him?

The only way we take this kid is if he signs and goes to prep school. He'd impressive on the football field, but we've got to have guys that can get it done in the classroom too.
