It seems the HOME beta has been updated and ready for download by current testers. With this update the HOME Square that was shown at E3 has finally been made available to testers. From what I understand many changes have been made to the HOME beta and they're very well received by beta participants. One of the changes I was informed of is that they've broken locations down to optional downloads. For example if you didn't desire to visit the theater you didn't have to download it. It make for a much smaller core download and allows users to define their own experiences. Anyhow less talk and more screenshots, enjoy!

It's free... but there are microtransactions to upgrade all the basic options you get. You get a basic apartment for free, as an example, but you can buy a mansion or a residence on the beach for a little bit of money.
Playing games, having trophies, basic customization features, connectivity, access to the cinema and sports arena, etc. are all free. More coming.
They're also working on real-life interaction. e.g., if you buy a shirt you customized from PlayStation Home, your avatar will wear it, but you can also have it shipped to your home in real-life.
Right now it's in closed-beta... with open beta coming over the next couple of months. The tentative month of release is October.

Is it similar to Second Life but better graphics?

Similar... but I'd say it has a lot of differences. For one thing Home isn't structured like Second Life even though it does look like it. Home will also have game integration.

Home is one of the main reasons I am going to trade in or sell my 360 once it is fully released. Also I am going to get Rock Band for the PS3 since with xbox as always you have to pay just to go online, and pay to download songs, and pay to use it wirelessly and pay to change your screen name if you think of a better one, etc....

Rockband is going to be the SHIZ! I'm not sure where your coming from with the pay to use it wirelessly, and pay to DL songs. You will have to pay extra for the wireless guitar and for DL's on the PS3 as well ... ?
As far as Home, I think it's a really neat idea. I want to get a PS3 eventually, but I really hope I don't get sucked into Home. Looks like it has that addiction factor, :D

I think he is talking about Xbox Live. Since the PS3 online is free, he wouldn't have to pay to play with people. The song downloads have to be paid for with both systems, so thats not really a factor. I'm personally getting Rock Band/GH3 for the PS3 cause I know my PS3 can handle it, my Xbox i've been paranoid about since the first one bit the dust.

Good points. Paying $50 seems like alot, but after thinking about it, I kinda like the idea that not every punk kid in the world will be able to get on and harass others on Xbox Live because they're parents are too cheap to buy the membership. Then again, I 'spose if the parents bought their kids a 360, they might buy the membership anyways... who knows. You definitely get what you pay for. I wonder what M$'s answer to "home" will be. More over-priced DLC?

Sorry I didn't clarify myself, I mean you have to buy a wireless connector for the 360($99) just to be able to use a wireless router to get online, now I am not sure if it is the same with the PS3 I was just venting my frustrations with Microsoft trying to take every penny from everyone that owns a 360

You can play online. You just have to call Tech Support and register you MAC Address for the system. I'm guessing it's the same with the PS3. I had to do it with my 360 and my Wii last year. I have a PS3 now, but am off campus.

Oh yea I hear you man. I was pissed when I found out about that. The damn thing even broke on me at one point, but instead of shelling out another 100 bucks, I told Wal-Mart I just got it for my B-day and exchanged it :D

PS Home Delayed (http://www.dailytech.com/PlayStation+Home+Delayed+Until+Spring+2008/article8977.htm)
http://www.psu.com/PlayStation-Home-coming-to-Japan-in-Spring-08--a0001696-p0.php
According to Internet reports, Sony Computer Entertainment will be launching its highly anticipated online virtual hub, PlayStation Home, across Japan in spring of 2008.
Reports come following the recent Tokyo Content Market 2007 symposium, where a Senior Producer at the company allegedly detailed plans to release the online service next spring, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.
As it stands, PlayStation Home is currently scheduled for a release in North America and Europe around the same time following its delay last month, pointing towards a possible simultaneous worldwide release.
Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.

A press release to announce there will be details later?
http://ps3.qj.net/Rumor-PlayStation-Home-Beta-to-go-live-on-November-29-/pg/49/aid/107825
PlayStation Board forum member shadowman540 is currently speculating that the beta for PlayStation Home will be made available to PlayStation 3 owners this coming November 29. At this point, let us inform you that the speculation does hold some truth to it with some forum members seriously giving it a second thought.
According to shadowman450, one of the latest PS3 advertisements feature the downloadable PlayStation Network title PAIN and beside it is the PlayStation Home icon. The forum member is thinking that if the two are grouped together, it is only logical to think that both will go live at the same time.
While it has been confirmed that PAIN will be released on November 29 (Thursday), Sony has been very tight-lipped regarding the Home project. The forum member also reminded everyone that Phil Harrison once noted that the beta will be released either late November or early December.
Sony, on the the hand, has yet to comment on this. But if it turns out to be wrong, we still have to say that shadowman450's got a keen and highly observant eye.

You probably aren't taking full advantage of the 360's capabilities then.

you are correct. I refuse to pay for xbox live gold, I will also refuse to pay for anything on the playstation network. I pay enough for the system, the games and the accessories plus broadband internet to pay for downloadable crap and this and that. Plus the PS3 has wifi already installed so if I want to get a wireless router and play online I won't have to pay $100 just to do so. I am not into FPS so I am not missing out on Halo 3, I've already beaten Gears and will beat Mass Effect before I get a PS3. Everything else is for both systems and when I buy rock band for $200 I'll know I at least get a wireless guitar for that price instead of being wired right up. Blu-ray and HD-DVD are the same thing in and of itself with the exception of storage capabilities, plus I feel like my 360 is a ticking timebomb at any day waiting to give me the ring of death. By in no means do I hate my 360, I have enjoyed the games I have gotten to play and Assassin's Creed looks beautiful on the system, but I'm tired of Microsoft trying to get every bit of money they can take out of my wallet. At least with Sony I feel like I am getting a fair deal.

It's 25 minutes long (Another one from Tigerj). Expect the open beta to come soon. Also, once it's open to the public, expect these areas being shown filled with other people. There's a limit to every area, so new virtual areas will be created once the limit has been reached.

I plan on picking up a PS3 for XMas, but what other useless stuff does this PS Home do? I'm not big on picking wallpaper colors or selecting picture frames for my "virtual home". Seems like they could have been putting their time & effort into something that would benefit the gamer.

Well... it's a social network that will have connectivity between the web (ie somewhat like MySpace, but it has its unique aspects), the PSP, the PS3, your phone, etc. You can post a profile, create an avatar, live in a virtual world, and you choose what to do. It can be gaming-oriented, it can be purely social, etc.. You have the option to participate or not. It's your choice to download it... and it's free.
Here are some things that interest me about it:
- You and friends who are in Home can gather and immediately jump to a game to play with each other. Say if you're in Home and you and friends want to play Metal Gear Online, which is a multi-player game. All of you can jump into the game and play with one another directly from Home.
- You have trophies. You can collect trophies from various games and they'll be displayed in this infinte room in which you display them and/or post some videos of you playing a game. If you want to show people a replay of this great race you just completed in Gran Turismo 5, for example, you can post it there.
- There will be events held in Home. Let's say E3 is here and along with the web feeds and the posting of the conferences and the trailers for free download on the PS Store, Sony and other developers can hold virtual conferences there as well. You can be a part of the virtual audience as you see them unveil a new trailer or new information about a certain game or service.
- As shown in the video, there are many games in Home that you can play with others. You can play chess, checkers, various arcade games like EVAC, bowling, pool, etc.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to be integrated with PlayStation Home?
http://ps3.qj.net/Uncharted-Drake-s-Fortune-to-be-integrated-with-PlayStation-Home-/pg/49/aid/109941
From what we gather, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has been considered to be among the better titles to recently grace the Sony PlayStation 3. Given that, we imagine the players - like those who've already finished it - are probably wondering if Naughty Dog has any DLC-loving planned for Drake and the rest of the crew.
According to studio co-president Evan Wells, this may not be the case. As Wells stated during a recent interview with D-Pad magazine, they don't have any plans to update Uncharted with downloadable content.
That bad news aside, Wells did hint that they were planning to "planning to take advantage of whatever kind of integration into [PlayStation] Home that’s possible." That's all the info Wells shared during the interview regarding this matter, although he also divulged other interesting details, such as where the team based Nathan Drake's swashbuckling personality.
You can pick up a free copy of the D-Pad magazine via the download, and via the publication's site over at the source.

Consolecrusader has shared a video via YouTube of some Home BETA v0.83 footage below.
To quote: I have been receiving anonymous emails with video content from the new features of Home 0.83. I have no idea who their coming from. I own the site consolecrusader.com but I am in no way involved in the Home Beta.
In related news, Jonnyram (who apparently has been very accurate with Japanese news in the past) of NeoGAF stated today that the PS3 Home open BETA starts March 24, 2008 in Japan. Unfortunately, there is no official confirmation on this yet though.

No concrete date yet. In terms of the open beta, all I know is that it's "very soon". I think we should get the beta within the next couple of months.
Let's hope Sony reveals more details at or before Gamer's Day in May.
