FOR THE SECOND year in a row one of the best players in North Carolina hails from Garner — and history may repeat itself with South Carolina in great shape to land the commitment.
Last year the Gamecocks snared Chris Culliver from the Raleigh suburb. Now, the Gamecocks are big leaders for linebacker Reggie Bowens (6-foot-2, 218 pounds).
Bowens said he is 80 percent sure he will commit to the Gamecocks. He had planned to make an unofficial visit for Saturday’s game, but that changed when his own game was postponed until Saturday night. Bowens also is considering Clemson, North Carolina and East Carolina.
Pelion offensive lineman Dalton Freeman (6-6, 265) visited Penn State two weeks ago and is looking at Florida and Florida State for two more visits, according to Ben Freeman, his father and coach.
Freeman has been to games at USC and Clemson this season. The Freemans hope to narrow their list to eight or 10 schools by the end of this week.
Defensive lineman Brandon Thompson (6-2, 275) of Thomasville, Ga., visited LSU and liked what he saw. He plans to set visits with Clemson, USC and Georgia Tech. Clemson remains his favorite ahead of Georgia Tech and LSU.
Fort Dorchester linebacker Robert Quinn (6-6, 255), who was scouted Friday night by USC recruiter Shane Beamer, made an unofficial visit to USC for Saturday night’s game, his second of the season.
Quinn has not narrowed his list or decided on official visits. He took the ACT on Saturday, and with that out of the way, he plans to focus on scheduling visits.
Two Savannah teammates, defensive lineman Chaz Sutton (6-4, 230) and running back Franklin Green (5-11, 208), made unofficial visits to USC for the S.C. State game. Both are committed to Florida.

USC and others are showing interest in defensive end Everett Dawkins (6-3, 235) of Byrnes. Dawkins said he has offers from Wake Forest, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Michigan State, Florida State, Tennessee, Florida International, Wisconsin and N.C. State.
