3 star RB out of GA that decomitted from the Bulldogs and has opened up his recruiting. 509 188 4.55 in the 40, which seems slow for that height and weight. We have offered.

Ward To Visit USC Next Week

By Phil Kornblut
RB Martin Ward (5-10 190) of Jonesboro, GA, a one time Georgia commitment who is now on the open market, has scheduled an official visit to USC for Thursday night's game against Kentucky. And Ward says the Gamecocks currently lead for his services. "They are up and coming and they work hard," Ward said. "The players and the coaches have a good relationship. Coach Gillespie is a real good dude. It would be fun to work with him. I'd like to be a part of it with Spurrier." Does that mean Ward could make a commitment while on his visit? "I don't know, we'll have to wait and see," he said. "They haven't been pushing it hard." Ward said he also plans to visit Louisville and he's looking at Clemson, Florida, North Carolina, Purdue, Ole Miss, Marshall and Memphis. Ward rushed for 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.

Jonesboro ... dirty south. Haha

I live about 10 min away ... maybe i will ride down there and get the scoop. Haha

He would be well advised to come to cola over athens. Moreno is going to be a stud and get the vast majority of touches over the next 2-3 years ...

We are not deep at TB at all. After this year we have M DAvis and a Tr Fr who will shine ... but after that its Eric Baker and another recruit...

We need some (future) playmakers in the backfield.

Ward Still Planning Thursday Visit

By Phil Kornblut
On Recruiting
Published: October 2, 2007

RB Martin Ward (5-10 190) of Jonesboro, GA still plans to be on hand for the USC-Kentucky game Thursday night. He earlier had talked about making that visit official, but now he's approaching the visit as unofficial. He has a game Friday night and is trying to arrainge things with his coach to be able to make the trip happen. Ward talked with USC recruites Ty Nix and Cedric Williams Tuesday night. "We just chatted, they were just checking up on me," Ward said. Ward, who was once committed to Georgia, is now favoring the Gamecocks, but he's taking a more cautious approach in making his decision this time. "It's not that I don't want to commit, but I just don't know quite yet. It's a little early. I'm just trying to weigh my options." Ward said he backed off his Georgia commitment because the Bulldogs, in his opinion, are well stocked at running back. He said he's looking for a program where he will have the chance to play early and not redshirt.

I got to meet the recruits, he wasn't there. There were 30+ recruits that were supposed to come, but only about 10 or so made it. Those that did make it were guys that had visited before. I know for sure that I saw Dalton Freeman. I don't think Martin Ward showed up.

Freeman Takes In USC-Kentucky

By Phil Kornblut
OL Dalton Freeman (6-6 265) of Pelion made an unofficial visit to USC Thursday night for the Kentucky game. "They were waiting for him when he got there," Freeman's father Ben said of the USC coaches. "He got to meet with coach Spurrier and coach Hunt. They are very interested in him." Freeman plans to make an unofficial visit to Clemson Saturday for the Virginia Tech game. He has made official visits to Penn State and Colorado and plans to visit Florida State for the Miami game. He has not decided on his other official visits.

Reeves interested in Vols; Poole eyeing South Carolina

Poole losing interest in Tennessee?
Stephens County running back Tauren Poole, who has committed to Tennessee, hasn’t entirely ruled out an offer from South Carolina.
“Tennessee is my first school,” Poole said. “But I just take it one day at a time. As it turns out, I’m a Volunteer right now.
“But I’m interested in South Carolina. They’ve got a running back leaving and one coming back. I think it’d be a plus for me coming in there as a freshman.”

Ward favoring South Carolina
Mt. Zion, Jonesboro running back Martin Ward is inching closer to a commitment to South Carolina.
“I’m leaning toward South Carolina,” Ward confirmed.
Ward, who briefly committed to Georgia earlier this year, said he’s also considering Clemson, Louisville and North Carolina.
The Gamecocks are his new front-runner, thanks in part to coach Steve Spurrier.
“It’s all about the coaching staff,” Ward said. “Coach Spurrier has a lot of energy, and he brings it to the field.
“He’s a real good guy. And the schemes he runs is the reason they’re winning. It’s very exciting.”

Ward Will Visit USC Next Week

By Phil Kornblut
RB Martin Ward (5-10 190) of Jonesboro, GA never has been to a USC football game, but he plans to be on hand when the Gamecocks play host to Florida a week from Saturday. Ward said he's not sure at this point if the visit will be official or unofficial. Ward has been favoring the Gamecocks and they still lead. "South Carolina is where I might be headed," he said. "I want to see how the crowd reacts with the team and how the team works as a unit." Ward said he is also looking at visits with Clemson, Louisville, North Carolina and Memphis.

Mike Davis, Bobby Wallace, Brian Maddox, Eric Baker, Martin Ward

Does that sound like a capable running back stable for next year? All signs point to yes.

The only thing, as far as running backs go, that I'm worried about is if Clark Gaston and Taylor Rank can be as good as Lanard Stafford at the fullback position.

The thing about Eric Baker is that he is playing defense at Fork Union, and his coach says he has "Florida speed" and "hits like a mad truck"..I wonder if our coaches are interested at putting him at safety or outside linebacker?

If that is the case, then I can see us trying to bring in Miles or Ellington too.

Will4144

Where has it been reported that Eric Baker was playing defense? I hadn't heard that.

Maybe coaches are looking at him like they did Emanuel Cook. Baker looked good at RB in high school, but so did Cook, who was a very good RB in a very tough division, but the move to Safety has definitely paid off for Cook.

No I don't. Its just an 85-90% chance that he is coming here however thats not a 100% chance. We would have to screw up or another team would have to step up in a big way in his recruitment. Why does it piss you off that I'm realistic when it comes to recruits? Ellington is currently committed to Clemson and it will take a hell of alot to sway him because unlike alot of people on here I don't think Bowden gets fired this year. Next year I think he does but this year he will do just enough to stay. As for Harper I truly believe he ends up a Tiger. I hope I'm wrong about that but thats what I've been hearing. Again I'm sorry that some people on this site are so overcome with hatred for Clemson that they can't look at anything concerning them realistically and get angry at any gamecock fan who can. I hate Clemson but apparently unlike you I can look at things objectively.

First of all Harper is far better than Proctor which is all they needed to make that offense hard to stop when they bring their A game. As for the GT game I was glad to be wrong and glad Bowden did his best to coach them to a defeat. They didn't bring their A game it was more like their D or F game and they still had a chance to win, I think they missed a few FGs in the game. In every game I will predict each team to bring their A game and on their A game Clemson is probably one of the best teams in the ACC up there with BC and VT this year but the thing is they don't bring it near as much as everyone else does which is why they have so many unimpressive season with so much talent. Still Bowden does just enough to keep his job this year but next year is when the constant underachieving catches up with him and makes him lose his job.

Ward Watches USC Saturday Night

By Phil Kornblut

RB Martin Ward (5-10 190) of Jonesboro, GA made an unofficial visit to USC Saturday night for the Florida game. Ward came in for the game with one of his coaches and a friend. "We walked around and got to see the tailgaters," he said Sunday night. "I got to talk to coach Spurrier for a second. I saw coach Nix, coach Gillespie, all of the coaches. I liked it but the game wasn't what I expected. I thought they would come out stronger. But the loss didn't mess with my visit. They run (on offense) basically the same thing we run. I liked seeing Cory Boyd out there. I wanted to see a little more of Mike Davis." Ward has been favoring USC and admitted he's thinking about committing, but he's waiting on his test score to come back so he knows where he stands from a qualifying standout. He also is thinking about visiting Louisville, Memphis and North Carolina. Ward said he might be back in Columbia in two weeks for the Clemson game.

Clemson Turns Down Commitment Offer

By Phil Kornblut

Clemson is no longer involved with RB Averin Collier (5-11 195) of Churchville, NY because apparently the Tigers feel they have a chance to land a running back higher on their board right now. Collier had planned to visit Clemson over the weekend but after talking with recruiter Billy Napier a couple of weeks ago, the visit was canceled. "I told him they were my number one choice and I would commit if I enjoyed my visit," Collier said. "He told me to wait and I could not do that because I'm an early enrollee. I can't have my fate depending on somebody else. He said they were waiting on somebody else. There was no use wasting my time. I told him to just scratch me off the list and I'll look elsewhere." Collier has taken an official visit to Boston College and he will visit Pittsburgh December 7th. He's also looking at Alabama, Syracuse, Maryland, Central Florida and Virginia.

He gained experience on special teams, which will help ease him into playing in his partial role with Mike Davis next year.

If Davis doesn't step up Maddox will be the guy. He's got more speed, more size, etc.. Personally, I'd like to see Davis at FB and Maddox at RB. That tandem worked well early in the season with Davis & Boyd, but they got away from it and never used it again. To me Davis is more of a FB anyway, just needs to gain about 10 more lbs.

Davis definitely plays RB like a Jerome Bettis or Jamal Lewis. Brian Maddox will be a much better RB than Mike Davis or Cory Boyd once he gets some experience under his belt because of that speed and size you mentioned.

Back to Ward.....I would love to have this kid even if he goes Prep....I think Prep can be a real plus for these kids. A year to mature without burning up eligibility can only be a plus. Who knows, maybe he qualifies as well. Either way this kid is bigtime and could really really help the program. I would almost guarantee our 3 Fork Union Players will have very good careers at USC....

I'd probably prefer Martin Ward going the prep route to keep our RB's spread out. Eric Baker and Kenny Miles this year, Martin Ward and someone else next year.

The last I heard we were still leading for him, but he's probably just focusing on his grades at this point instead of calling up all the media. I hope he ends up in the garnet and black!

Haven't heard about Ward lately. He's dropped to 3 stars, I guess because of the academics. I bet we get him as a sign-and-place.
