South Carolina is one of only two schools in the nation to reach the NCAA Super Regionals in seven of the last eight years (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007). Since the 2000 season, the Gamecocks are the only SEC squad to reach the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament each year and have compiled eight consecutive 40-plus win seasons. The Gamecocks have also put together a 388-155 record in that span, the fourth highest win total in Division I baseball as well as an SEC-best 147-92 in conference match-ups. That list also includes three trips to the College World Series (2002, 2003, 2004), two SEC Championships (2000, 2002) and one SEC Tournament title (2000).

Eighteen is OK, but I have to wonder how Toman's departure affected recruiting. Hopefully members of this class can fill huge holes left by graduation, draft and sadly arrest.

Werent we like #1 for like the last 3 years, Toman must have alot to do with the low ranking!

I may be wrong, but I think these are Toman's recruits. They had already signed with us before he left for Liberty. Still, kind of makes you wonder why it's so low compared to the last few classes we've had. Has missing out on the College World Series the last few years had an effect?

The only ones we missed out on were the high draft picks that decided to go pro...it's hard to blame them. We'll still be one of the elite teams in the country.

I see LSU is getting back on track now.

The Yardcocks still rule though!!!:swingcoc:

wow! Wltx had a lead that said best class ever, but i didnt get to see the report. Now i am wondering how they came up with that- 18th is far from best class ever. Hopefully they can get us past UNC(if we have to play them) and to Omaha finally!
Can we get Toman back?

Number 1 classes did not get us to Omaha. Vanderbilt has dropped a lot also.

I am also wondering if the slow pace of the new stadium may have something to do with. Toman leaving does hurt as well.

In my "best friend / recruiter" voice:

"So you're thinking about South Carolina too? Did they tell you they were gonna have a new stadium soon? Yeah? Heck, they've been promising kids a new stadium since before you were in high school. I wouldn't pay too much attention to what they said about that. So what else did they tell you? Really, so let me see if I have it straight. They're promising a new stadium and championships too? Sounds like they might have a problem delivering on the goods over there. Let me tell you about our program here instead...."

Nah, doesn't have any impact at all.

I think the reason every good player has come there doesn't have a thing to do with stadium promises, or Toman, or any of that crap.

Ask any of them.

They came there to PLAY FOR COACH TANNER.

Kitchenlabs

Spareparts is correct. They come here to play for Tanner...not Toman, not for a new stadium...blah, blah, blah. They come because the program is very successful...7 SR's in 8 years. Most recently plenty of Tanner's former players have made the Bigs also!

Nick Ebert Commits to South Carolina.

OCALA — Nick Ebert couldn't wait to be a Gator. And that's exactly why he'll soon be a South Carolina Gamecock.

After holding out for weeks for an offer from the University of Florida, Ebert this week committed to play baseball for the Gators' SEC rival, freeing the former Belleview High School star to focus on his sophomore year at Central Florida Community College.

This is the class that recently enrolled. They were all signed by november of 2006. You can't really rank a baseball class until you see who actually enrolls and who goes pro.

There's an article in The Shtate this morning about just that. But since I don't link articles to that fishwrap, I won't direct anyone to it unless you're sitting in the barbershop and it happens to be there.

Toman was a big reason many of the kids chose USC. He got players commited that Tanner never saw at the time. Toman did a great job recruiting for USC, and he will be missed. Tanner took Toman's word on many of these recruits, even Tanner has said this.

Toman is a good recruiter..yes...BUT he was selling Tanner's program.
