Per PK, USC has invited a Red Fox in for this weekends game.

Receiver Drawing USC Interest

By Phil Kornblut

WR Jordan Lyles (6-4 205) of Hartsville is among the state’s leading receivers so far this season with 38 catches for 729 yards and 15 touchdowns. He did not play football as a junior so recruiters are just starting to show interest. He was all state in basketball last season after averaging 20 points per game, and he was all state in baseball after going 6-1 with a 0.85 ERA and batting .400 for a state championship team. He has not been offered but USC invited him in for the Mississippi State game and he will attend. “They were impressed after watching his tape,” said Hartsville coach Jeff Calabrese. “They are interested and intrigued.” Calabrese said he’ll be getting tapes of Lyles out to other schools in the near future.

They were off this week but they will be pplaying Spring Valley next week.

Yeah, this kid has showed up on the local HS Sports wrap-up a couple times. He's got a lot of Recp. TD's for this early in the season. Also, a very good basketball and baseball recruit as well. Kinda looks like Matt Jones from Arkansas' squad a couple years back.

Jordan's older brother lives with me and the kid is a ball player. He is leading the state in every recieving category. 15 td catches in 5 games. He is a hell of a pitcher and has offers from about every school in the country. The MLB teams have been scouting him for about a year and they want him to skip college and go pro. USC is also looking at him for basketball...all three head coachs have talked to him. he played football as a soph and neer got PT b/c the coach wanted him to play QB and there was no team around him. He stopped for a year to concentrate on baseball and basketball. Now he plays all three. He is an outstanding player in all three. more to come lata

I don't know if you're talkin about the same guy, but I played HS football with a guy, Eric Young, a HUGE Olineman. He had never played football until he was a sophomore in HS. Started from Day 1 at Union High. He was a great athelete. 6'4, around 270 and ran a 4.6 40. Just natural gifts. Ended up at Tennessee and has started at RT the last couple of years for them.

He broke our single season td by a receiver third game of the year. We've had some great offense in the 80's and 90's. We've had a couple of guys from the past like Randy Wheeler and Lee Wiggins to play for the Gamecocks, would love to see another. He'll be in Columbia playing Friday night hopefully leading the Foxes to another win....:football:

This post is petering our but I thought I would offer my comments. I played for Hartsville when we were a state power and was on a state championship team and I have seen about everyone to go through that program since the late 70's to date. This Lyles kid is better than anyone I have ever seen play for the Red Foxes at WR. He is that good and is more than worhty of a scholarship to Carolina, whether it be baseball, football or basketball. There was a guy I played with, Aubrey Shaw, a Shrine Bowler who was the last three way All State player for Hartsville. Lyles may be better than Aubrey as an all around player. He is truly gifted.

HartsVegasCock
10-02-2007, 01:42 PM
Aubrey Shaw was the man! That was some great teams in the 80's. Our run from 90-94 was a great run except for losing the state 3 out of 4 years. I would love to see Lyles end up at SC but with how high it sounds he could be drafted in Baseball, who knows whats gonna happen.

Lyles Gets Good Look At USC

By Phil Kornblut

WR Jordan Lyles (6-4 195) of Hartsville made an unofficial visit to USC Saturday. "I liked it a lot," Lyles said. "I talked with coach Spurrier Jr. before the game. He was going to look at my film. He hadn't had a chance to look at it." Lyles is one of the state's leading receivers this season with 38 catches for 729 yards and 15 touchdowns. He said he's also drawing football interest from Presbyterian, Wofford and The Citadel. USC has offered Lyles in baseball as a pitcher. Last season he was 5-1 with a 0.85 ERA. And he was all state in basketball as well as a junior and is drawing interest in that sport from the College of Charleston, The Citadel and Francis Marion.

Update on Jordan: Friday nights game at spring alley brought 3 more tds (18 on the yr) and roughly 160-180 more yards. The Gamecocks have yet to offer but he will be making visits to UGA, UT, NCst, and UNC. The word is that UT is ready to offer and waiting till his visit to pull the trigger. It is still up in the air right now but USC and the ole ball coach need to get on the ball.

Spurrier has proven that he has a fairly slow trigger finger on recruits. He wants to make sure that they will fit in to his scheme before making a commitment to the recruit. In all, I think this guy will get an offer, especially considering his overall athleticism. Maybe Steve can do Ray a favor on this one.

Jordan Lyles is going to be a pretty good WR for someone. He hasn't gotten a lot of attention since he hasn't played all of his high school career, but he'll be a steal wherever he goes.

He'll probably end up being another Kentucky, Vanderbilt, or Wake Forest steal from SC.

As far as Newsome, he hasn't proven himself to be a D-1 QB.

atrain3067
11-03-2007, 11:54 AM
Jordan Lyles is a USC Commit if we offer. He's been a lifelong Gamecock fan, so if we offer, he commits on the spot. Latest is that SOS Jr. is reviewing his film, but has not offered him.

From what I hear Lyles will be a MLB draft pick. Left handed with an crazy low ERA. They hooked up for 3 more TD's last night which just blew all records away at Hartsville for a single season. You'll hear alot of him when basketball starts up since his the star of the team in that sport also, but most likely baseball will be his calling.

This is far from the truth. Jordan did grow up a Carolina fan, but is not a lock if we offer. Jordan is looking at 5 schools for football (SC, Tenn, UNC, Clemson and somewhere else). No school has offered for football yet. Last I heard Tenn was closest to offering. Jordan is a MLB prospect and they experts are saying he could go Real Real early. Almost every D1 school in the country as offered for baseball. A few instate schools have offered in basketball with more to come after this season. Jordan is far from knowing what he is gonna do because it is a decision he will make with his family when the time is right.

I cant wait to see him in basketball, he lit it up last year. They are playing in the Beach Ball Classic this year and he plays on the AAU McDonalds team at the beach also. His pitching helped us win the state in Baseball last year. Hopefully he can help us beat Conway this week. He had a off game against them the first time they played but it didnt help when our star back got knocked out in the first half.

He definitely looks like a good prospect. If Spurrier deems him worthy, I'll be more than happy. If not, I'll be disappointed in not getting him as I was last year with losing Brian Maddox's teammate, TE/LB Cam Ford.

But Jordan Lyles is a much better player than Cam Ford was. I think we'll seriously consider him before all is said and done.

scgolfer67
12-14-2007, 10:17 AM
It all depends teo things for Jordan to get an offer from Carolina to play Football ( so i have been told).

1. His performance at the shrine bowl this week....practice and the game itself

2. the committments of other WR that we are recruiting. I.e. Streeter, Moore, Lawerance. Also been told that this GT wideout D.J Donely that wants to transfer here may hurt Jordan's cause.

This kid is a great athlete and will excel in any sport he choices. His brother lives with me here in columbia and i've know Jordan all my life and the kid is an all rounder. I think the University of SC could use a good student athlete like him.

Spurrier will allow it. That's how we've been in it so hard for some guys like Sanders Commings Jr., etc. It was Chris Smelley's decision to play strictly football.

Sorry Will4144 but i think you in correct we had a softball game against smelly and the football team over the summer for USC intramurals and I asked him about it and Smelly said SOS wouldn't allow him to play. This is also why Sidney Rice and Cliff Matthews couldn't play basketball. SOS doesn't like kids to play two sports.

West Florence won a game? When I went there we won one game when I was a freshman and then lost the rest of the time I was there.

I wasn't till My freshman year at USC, I came back to see a girl and West Florence broke the losing streak... we then proceeded to tear down the goal post.

Lyles Awaiting First Major Offer

By Phil Kornblut
Shrine Bowl WR Jordan Lyles (6-4 195) of Hartsville has joined the Red Foxes basketball team, and this spring will toe the rubber for the baseball team. The three sport standout caught 81 passes this season for 1400 yards and 24 touchdowns. He has received football offers from Presbyterian, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina and Elon. He has basketball offers from The College of Charleston, Francis Marion and The Citadel. And his baseball offers are from USC, Clemson, College of Charleston, Presbyterian, Wofford and Spartanburg Methodist JC. But Lyles is hoping for a football offer from a major college before moving forward with his plans. USC showed interest in him during the season but he's not heard from the Gamecocks since before the Shrine Bowl. He does not have a favorite.

Right, I phrased that wrong. My bad, I kind of understand the football offers not coming right away but he continued to put up ridiculous numbers all year long. It's not like he started out well and once people figured him out he stopped being so good. He's apparently a freak, anybody that can play 3 sports, year round, with no break is ridiculous.

I played football and golf in HS and I would have to take time off from football to rest up for GOLF...much less going straight into basketball then baseball. That's ridiculous.
