View Full Version : Need for Safeties

Anyone know our status with any safety prospects? Karnell Hatcher? I noticed that after this year's seniors are gone, we will be left with 3 safeties that have routinely seen the field (Stewart, Cook, Woodson). I know we already have A. Allen committed, but we definetly need some depth at this position. This could be the biggest need of all for this class.

i could be wrong, but i believe jamire williams also plays safety. Been told he's got alot of potential as well

Have you all forgotten Antonio Allen is coming??? No to mention I bet Mark Barnes gets another look at Safety next season, a lot of "experts" also say that Jay Spearman projects best at Safety, so I think we will be straight.

Not sure... he was one of the victims of the academic board. He may have gone to another school to play like Bowman did for ECU, and quite honestly I couldn't be angry at him for that. I'd love to have him though... he lit up Spiller like nothing in High School.

ok yea He's at Bethune-Cookman I hope he does well there sad to see us rejecting guys like that. I thought it was Allen that lit up Spiller in high school though? Maybe it was both of them.

Safety is a HUGE need this year.

Certainly, with our recent LB commitments, Safety is the #1 need on our current board.

A.Allen is in prep... could possibly enroll this January.
Arkee Smith enrolled elsewhere and won't be coming to USC.

I honestly thought by this point in the season we'd see Chris Culliver at the Safety spot... but obviously SOS wants to keep Chris on the offensive side of the ball.

There's no telling where Spearman or Hillary will end up... but I'd bet Spearman plays Safety and Hillary gets a shot at the QB.

Spearman does not have the size for safety. CB at best.

He may be a little light right now, but we're not necessarily expecting him to play his first year. I think he definitely has the chance to bulk up a couple of pounds and play safety.

Most of our current safeties are just over 200 lbs.

if his listed ht/wt is correct, then you couldnt be further off base with that post ... hes 6-0 190 and still in HS. hes a S prototype. but if his stats are inflated, he could be a good Db for us wherever he winds up...

did you not see the first post? it mentioned antonio allen.

but you do make a good point about Barnes. i wouldn't mind seeing him there, especially with the WRs we have.

wow i'm posting a lot

we have 11 safeties that have us on their lists, all have a "medium" interest in coming here, except one has us as "high".

the most notable is AJ Grant. he also has 9 other schools on his list, including UF, FSU, MSU, Ill, and Miami.

We'll be more than fine at safety. Emanuel Cook, Darian Stewart, and Stoney Woodson can hold it down while Antonio Allen, Darrell Simmons, and possibly Alonzo Winfield and/or Jay Spearman get ready.
