Ask Smelley what the O line is missing and he will tell ya second half blocking. That is when Hillary could benefit us. I am not knocking the QBs just a little fustrated watching our O line get whooped every week for the past three years. I guess we got to have some aspect of our team to focus on in a negative way...not that I am trying to be. I am proud of what our team has done the past few seasons and showing my colors more than ever..but we are so close to being a championship team..just want the O line to step it up and if they can't then maybe get Cory and Mike to get some direct snaps.

our OL is very young and has trouble blocking the way our staff wants them to (zone blocking- overpower the guy in your path/zone). once we get a few years of talented, balanced classes where our starting OL is 4th and 5th year guys, that wont be a problem. we are a very very young team. its a double edged sword

Have you seen this kid play yet? He is a very mobile and very accurate QB. I am pretty sure we signed him as a QB as everyone is making a big deal about he is the first african-American QB Spurrier has ever signed to play QB for him at the college level. IMO it would be extremely dumb not to use this kid at QB.

i wasnt knocking Hillary's abilities as a QB, but IMo we will see a logjam starting to occur. Esp since I think SOS will take at least 1 QB per year from here on out ...

2008:
Beecher: Jr
Smelley: RS So
Garcia: RS Fr
Hillary: will RS
McCollum: will RS

We always need very good QBs in SOS' system, and Hillary is def a good QB with great mobility, but by the time he has a grasp of the sys I think Garcia will have a firm grip on the QB spot. I made reference to McKinley since he was a stud mobile QB in HS and he has made the transition to wr in SOS sys. Im sure haveing the moves as well as the knowledge/an offensive mind, it helps with making that move

If we recruited him as a QB, im sure he will get his shot.

He looks great on film.

Not sure, but man check out his vids. I think last i heard we are getting one of his officials. And i think we are in his top three. I think he feels as if bama is going to offer, but if they havent yet theres a good chance they wont and i got the feeling that if they dont offer then he will be ours.

I understand too about what your saying about aramis, but i do know SS called him and offered him as a qb so theres got to be something special there. But if it doesent work out we can put him somewhere else like you said.

If Hillary's not a QB, he'll be a SLB, MLB, or SS. He's a hard hitter without a lot of speed (outside of QB speed).

A 4.6 QB is "quick as lightning"
A 4.6 CB is "slow as molasses"

After seeing his film its hard to believe hes a 4.6 guy. But I do understand what you are saying, i just dont put much stock in the 40 times a lot of services list.

i think one of the WRs we are looking has a 4.68 40. We have OL faster than that. LOL

Commings has committed to UGA.
Isn't there also a defensive player from Mobile, Al we are after. A LB maybe.
doc

BTW, I think Hillary will get a chance at QB when he comes in but I wonder if he'll end up more like Syvelle. If he doesn't want to RS, and then sit awhile, he may have to change positions to get on the field early. Also as someone above stated, if he is to be our "Tebow" next year, it won't matter how accurate he is because all he'll do is bull rush the middle like a single wing TB.

I agree.

While i think SOS is always going to recruit the pure passers, i do think he realizes the advantage of having someone like syvelle.

However, a QB like this is more valuable when the OL isnt in shambles. When we have a solid OL, our O looks very very good. At that point, a better passer is advantageous.

Maybe so but I was just responsding to what previous posters had written. IMHO, Steven is mobile, but he isn't big enough to be a Tebow. Tebow is about 235-40 lbs and Steven is about 210. I think he wants to sling it and run when he has too, not because we plan for him to do it. All we can do is wait and see.

I think Jared McAdoo and Devin Taylor would be huge pick ups. McAdoo is 6'7 220 and plays DE and TE, and man that guy can move. And Taylor is 6'6 220 and is very aggressive. both have huge upsides. And we got great shots with both of them. We are going to have the tallest and biggest Dline in the history of the game if we get those two kids with J King and geathers along with Ellis, that is going to be a HUGE line..lol Cant wait to see Willy escape from the shadows those guys make.

Also i head we are probably going to get a visit from Tommy Streeter from miami and he is 6'6 210lbs and plays on the best HS team in the country. It will be hard to get him out of miami but some think that if he does leave the state we got the best shot due to SS. And we still have the long shot for D walker. Due to Freddie Brown we have an outsides chance and hey with sos anything possible.

anyways we will win with or without them lol

Aramis Hillary won't play WR. He's not fast enough. He's got good elusiveness from the QB position, and why is everyone so sure that Reid McCollum is the one QB we wanted this year? Spurrier wasn't (hence he offered Aramis), so give Hillary time to prove himself. Don't take him out of his position without giving him a chance.

Hillary was recruited strictly as a QB and hopefully he'll be given a chance to RS and learn the system. Garcia may be the guy but I don't see Hillary being moved from QB just b/c of that. Hillary is a great athlete, and if he does not win the QB job early on he might ask the coaching staff to move him to another position where he can start. He could play any number of positions, from WR to LB to DB. I honestly don't see that happening though, from everything I've read about him he is a QB at heart and that's where he wants to play.

According to the Augusta Chronicle reports during the football season, he was recruited as a player and more or less, unlikely as a full time QB. There was also a lot of talk about him not even getting a D-1 offer at all. He's always, always, always wanted to be a Gamecock though. I'm not saying he won't get a shot at QB or even that he won't BE a full time QB, but he is definitely fast enough to be QB or receiver and athletic enough to do just about anything...very much Syv. Newton-like.

Will4144
12-31-2007, 12:52 AM
If he decided to play elsewhere, LB or S would be his best positions. He's fast enough to be a possession receiver, but he's nowhere as tall as our current possession receivers. It'd be harder for him to break our depth chart at WR than QB. He's got good size for LB/S if QB doesn't work out, but I think it will.

roosterrizk1
12-31-2007, 02:25 AM
Hillary was offered as strictly a QB after Spurrier had him in camp. Now the good thing is if he doesn't pan out at QB he could make a fine LB as well.

I believe that's about right. 4.68 is very fast for a QB not named Vince Young, Michael Vick, Terrelle Pryor, or Pat White.

That's also why he isn't even considered a WR prospect for us like some have claimed. He's not as fast, tall, or "in the know" with running routes like our WR's.
