Many PlayStation 3 supporters can tell you straight up that while initially seeing a slower than usual start, the PS3 is still on the rise to becoming the dominant gaming platform.

On the other end of the spectrum, cheers remain strong in support for the Xbox 360 as it is outselling Sony’s console by a significant margin. No matter how your opinions sway, what is not commonly known, however, is that the Xbox 360 had a similar start to that of the PS3s.

In a recent chart study conducted by VG Charts, one of the most comprehensive videogame charts in the world, it shows that while the Xbox 360 may have a substantial lead over the PS3 (also note the PS3 came out a full year after the 360), the 360 faced a very similar path that the PS3 is trailing on right now in terms of sales growth.

As you may see, the PS3 is aligned almost identically with the Xbox 360. So in conclusion, the PS3, nearly 52 weeks into its life cycle is on par with what the Xbox 360 had during a similar time frame.

So what does this mean? It means that the PlayStation 3 isn’t fairing horribly as many people would say it would be.

With titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Final Fantasy XIII games coming in the near future, as well as the recent price cut, there is no reason why the PS3 cannot dust the Xbox 360 in the coming 2 years and eventually take on the Nintendo Wii.

i think the AVERAGE person ... doesn't really care about one over the other ... i realize "gamers" have their brands like people have their company of cars ... but speaking for myself ... i think they're both pretty good units that offer a lot of the same features with each having a few the other doesn't

For many DVD owners it comes down to one thing....what DVD's do you own?

I'm planning on gunning for the PS3. I saw Xbox introduced the Arcade version now with some nice new features but the majority of games I want are on PS3 and the whole overheating thing just scares with the Xbox. The price cut will help me decide to get one as I have a PS2 so the BC part really doesn't bother me at all.

I am pretty crazy about my 360, but I may have to get a PS3 when Final Fantasy comes out. There is no denying the greatness of that franchise.

The only way the PS3 can "dust" the 360 is if it sells more units than the 360. Sure, there might be no reason why the PS3 won't eventually beat the 360. There is also nothing about its performance so far that shows it will ever close the gap. Hopefully, the 360 and PS3 will be about even. That will be good for us gamers and ensure quality games for everyone.

PS3 (A more expensive product) sales worldwide 1 year into respective launch = X360 (A less expensive product) sales worldwide 1 year into respective launch

People need to realize the PS3 came out a year after the X360 before they cry about the launch-to-date sales of both consoles.

Expect at least 4 million more PS3's sold worldwide by December 31st. So near 10 million units since launch... which is where the X360 was this past Christmas.

And then you have the Wii, outselling both of them. Unbelievable.

People need to realize that the 360 was SOLD OUT the first six months. The PS3 was available in stores for anyone who wanted one for 4 out of the first 6 months. Nobody was buying. For that reason, saying that the PS3 did as well as the 360 in the first year after launch is not accurate.

LOL, 4 million more units sold in 2 months?

Right now it isn't even selling 200k a month. You think it will ramp up to 2 mil? I don't think so.

Never heard of it...

Doubt it will be able to hold Halo's jock either.

It's Christmas in the US and Europe... and somewhat in Japan. With a price cut, the games being released, the bundles, and the holiday season, I'm expecting big global sales.
