http://gamer.blorge.com/2007/10/12/assassins-creed-developers-claim-both-ps3-and-xbox-360-are-problematic/

The developer of Assassin's Creed, one of the most hotly anticipated games on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, has come out and criticized both consoles and more specifically how hard certain aspects of developing for them are.

Patrice Desilets, the game's creative director, told Pro G that Ubisoft Montreal is struggling with memory problems on both consoles. It seems that neither the PS3 or the Xbox 360 are much of a joy to develop for, and the company is facing some stiff challenges to complete the game for either.

The Xbox 360's DVD disc just doesn't cut it when compared to the PS3's Blu-ray format, and Ubisoft Montreal is facing a real challenge to fit everything they want to include in the game on to one solitary disc. To fit five languages and all the data required for a kick ass game such as this seems to need more than the 8Gb which is available to Xbox 360 games developers.

The PS3 isn't without it's issues either, as although the expansive Blu-ray discs means there's plenty of room for the game data, Patrice Desilets claims there are memory complications developing for Sony's great hope too. In fact it's so bad that the company has had to draft in help from both Microsoft and Sony "to make sure the game has the same quality on both systems".

PS3 owners will be happy to hear that they at least won't be getting a poor quality port from the Xbox 360 as Patrice added:

"The PS3 version is as good as the 360 version. We've been showing the PS3 version at E3 this year, but we've done a lot of events and it's just easier for us and for people from the press to have a 360. But the versions are the same, basically."

So there's some good news for PS3 owners (at last) but Xbox 360 owners won't be comfortable that the DVD disc space issue has reared it's ugly head yet again. We've already heard that Unreal Tournament 3 is likely to have less maps than both the PS3 and PC versions due to a lack of memory space, and now another developer says one DVD just isn't enough. And remember that this is at a relatively early stage of the next gen consoles lifespans.

I am a Xbox 360 owner and i feel that other than the rings of death, the outdated DVD discs are another problem that should be addressed. It is holding back developers from making the best game they can and people who pay this much for system want to be able to get the best out there.

5 languages seems like a bit much. Waste of space.

Score one for us Sony boys.

The 5 languages may be for in game.

Everyone should just learn English and get it over with.

How do you figure that is a score for Sony? Memory problems are much more difficult to overcome than storage problems. They may be trying to avoid using a second DVD but it is a simple solution.

Yeah, going to have to agree with you on that one. I don't see anything in there about a victory for sony.

Both systems are having their troubles.

I think developers are getting a little too spoiled though. Storage and memory never used to be a complaint. If you can fit fun games on the old cartridges that they used to use, surely they can make a dvd/blue ray work.

Stop complaining and just get it done.

Here's an interesting "story" that concerns upcoming game Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC) and Ubisoft Montreal Creative Director Patrice Desilets. What we can say about the director is that he freely speaks his mind.

One such example is when he said that the Nintendo Wii is just similar in power to the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox. Patrice Desilets also had a few things to say regarding the PS3 and Xbox 360 builds of Assassin's Creed.

The director mentioned that their team is having problems with both consoles. He was quoted a few days ago saying:

Right now we have a big challenge on the 360 to make it fit on a DVD, to put five languages, to put all the data on eight gigs. On the Blu-ray side we're really good, but then the memory is quite different. How we handle memory is really different between the two machines and we're struggling right now on the PS3.

This time, Desilets is revealing that his "boss" (perhaps it's Ubisoft Montreal Producer Jade Raymond?) called him the day after he made his comments and that they "exchanged a few words". When asked again about the problems, the creative director shared, "There's no problem anymore. It's gone. I learned my lesson".

We certainly hope it's the truth though, because we certainly can't wait to get our hands on Assassin's Creed. The title is expected to hit video game shelves on November 13.

but recently there has been glowing praise of the game again.....from what i've read, they made great strides to finally pull it together. it really looks good now & i think i might have to try and swing a purchase.

http://ps3.qj.net/Assassin-s-Creed-goes-gold-PS3-and-Xbox-360-release-on-November-13/pg/49/aid/106015

Ubisoft has announced that the highly-anticipated Assassin's Creed (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC) has finally gone gold. This means that the game is already in its final form and all that remains is the actual manufacturing phase.

"We've been working very hard for nearly four years to make Assassin's Creed a reality and now there is a confirmed date when players will get to experience the results of our efforts," said Assassin's Creed producer Jade Raymond. Raymond will also be at HMV in Oxford this weekend to present new Assassin's Creed levels to the public.

Assassin's Creed for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 home video game consoles will be released on November 13. The game's PC version will be coming in early 2008. Those who pre-order the game will also get a free Assassin's Creed art book.

you're not going to buy the game because of one sentence. that's impressive. besides, if you're that good at this style of game, you'll be 5-starring GH3 songs on expert before long as well.

No doubt, man. I think the drums are going to steal the show. Even if you're only into guitar, bulldozer, imagine how fun it's going to be at parties and get togethers. You can wow your friends on guitar while they struggle to bumble along on bass/drums/vocals

I can't WAIT to get this game. I'm getting tRockband and ME on the same day, but I bet I won't even unwrap Mass Effect for a week or two...

you know, if you just want to play the guitar parts (which is what you seem to like), you can simply buy the game for $60 and use your current GH guitars...that might work for ya.

then later on down the road if you find you want to play the other parts (drums, vocals) you can buy those controllers separately. but for right now, your GH guitars will work fine.

one more thing, bulldozer......i found this article about GH3 and thought you might be interested:

The timing for the button presses feels good now, though it isn't exactly the same as Guitar Hero II. A RedOctane rep confirmed our impressions by telling IGN that the window for when you can hit a note is a tiny bit bigger than it was in past Guitar Hero games.

sounds like GH3 is gonna be easier than GH2......thought you'd want to know that, given your earlier posts. i'm sure it'll still be a fun game though.

I don't know if it's the game or the new controller, but I was playing GHIII in Gamestop in Lexington earlier, and was breezing through Rock Me Like a Hurricane. Had a couple of kids in awe at my Hero-ness. ... and it was only on Hard :D

well, i moved up to hard on GH2 and i'm ok at it......i can blast some songs, but some of them still kick the crap out of me.

but on GH3, i breezed through rock me like a hurricane (in the demo) so well that i moved it up to expert......this is something that i just can't do on GH2. turns out that the first guitar solo at the beginning of the song shut me down, but i went into practice mode at full speed and nailed the song once it got past that part.....wound up hitting at a percentgage in the 80's. that just doesn't happen to me on GH2, so maybe there's something to be said for the easier play in GH3.

Call me nuts, but I think the buttons on the gibson are closer together or something. My hands didn't get cramped after a song like they normally do. On the xplorer, my hands get tired from going to O then G

that being said though, it's still fun as hell!!!!

i play each song on the hardest level that gives me a challenge but still doesn't kick my ass (that means MEDIUM on some songs and HARD on a lot of others). if some folks are good enough that they demolish EXPERT, then maybe they won't find this game fun. but for those of us that are good enough to dabble in the higher levels, but maybe not dominate them, then i think this game is gonna be killer.

that's how i feel, there's no where to go but up. Once you kill all the expert songs, you have plateaued... until new songs come out.

Can't wait for Assassin's Creed? Want to hear more of the Jerusalem soundtrack we previewed previously? Well, have no fear! Ubisoft has approved the release of two tracks from Jesper Kyd's score for Assassin's Creed (PS3, Xbox 360, PC).

Not only do we have a better quality version of the "City of Jerusalem" track previewed in October, we also have a new track available for download, called "Jerusalem Horse Ride". We've placed the two tracksinto a 13.5 MB zip file for easy downloading, and it should take a couple of minutes to download on an average connection.

Assassin's Creed will be out on November 13 for the PS3 and 360. PC gamers will have to wait for 2008 to see Altair in action. Oh well, at least you have your music to keep you grounded.

Got the game last night, pretty awesome so far. There is an interesting twist in the beginnning of the game that i won't ruin here. The beginning is a lot of story but it allows you to get to try out all the moves you have at your arsenal without much worry of death. I'm traveling to my first city for my first assassination now, so hopefully it only gets better. If you like the Hitman series, or even the Thief series, your prob. gonna like this game.

I thought the gameplay was very good, graphics were VERY good, and the story was interesting

It did kinda get a little reptitive but nothing to the point that some told me it would. I was caught up in almost all fights until the end.

I thought the fight scene at the end with Robert was incredibly tough but after an HOUR I finally got through it thanks to the small swords

Ending was a bit of a disappiontment but I am ready for AC2!

It gives you hints about the setting of the next Assassin's Creed.

Google about the ending and there are many websites that speculate what everything means.

Most speculate an Aztec setting.
