I put this in "icocky" since i had a bunch of Credit cards and a few credit cards in it and im worried they might be used ...
I was out tonight at a dinner - I (my company) treated 25 oral surgeons and dentists to dinner and there was a speaker on a new imaging system ... just to give you an idea.
Anyway, at the end of the night my bag is gone. Im hoping that someone grabbed it by accident ... theres so much stuff thats hard to replace: my surgical procedure notes, my day planner with all of my appts, my little black notebook with orders and to do lists, and all of my customer lists with notes on the staff... stuff a thief could never use but stuff thats priceless to me.
But i digress ...
Any help on how to get it back if it is stolen? the restaurant has my info ... the police told me to wait until tomorrow afternoon to file a report. im worried about ID theft, but im really concerned with my dayplanner and missing appointments ...

sales
im new to the area and just starting to build the relationships, so i dont want to miss appointments, etc ... my biggest concern is the dayplanner and my checkbooks/credit cards ...
im hoping its just a mix up and someone has it by mistake
plus its my navy and gray timbuktu messenger bag, so its not a briefcase per se, and i just wonder how many of the guys there would have a bag like that ... so that has me worried

I had my laptop stole along with a bunch of my other stuff, Digital camera with clients pictures clothes for the weekend, etc, while in Myrtle Beach at a a Landscaper's convention. Some ex locksmith was walking around with master keys to all late model chevrolet and GM Suburbans, Yukons, Tahoes, Sierra pickups, Silverado's etc...basically all full size GM vehicles. Well the security guard didn't find it fishy so the guy walked off with my brand new laptop. Unfortunatley I didn't buy lojack software, which is available from Dell and offered when you purchase, as well as available at many electronic stores. If you don't have this the best bet is to report your laptop serial number to the cops and they can check all pawn shops and enter it into a computer system and if it ever pops up they will find you, but as for the other stuff, if you want to know the truth if there was anything not of value to the robber it was probably dumped into a dumpster nearby so i would try searching that maybe. The cops told me this happens a lot and sometimes people can get some of their priceless stuff back.

I did a full police report and everything, but nothing ever turned up. My roomate had her purse jacked out of her car and cops didn't do anything for that either. Just seems sometimes they don't have the power to do anything or don't want to...I dunno, that's just the feeling I got. We were able to report my stuff to my Dad's insurance since it was his company and I was an employee at the time and it was a company trip, but they jerked me around and wanted recipts for everything...I mean who keeps a receipt for clothes, shoes, underwear, food, a digital camera bought years ago and all it's accessories, etc...I almost got the laptop's value back, but that was ll the consolation I got. Hope your situation turns out better.

Where were you out to dinner at?
Anyhow, I would check the trashcans and dumpster bins around the restaurant area. Most theives will steal something and then go through it until they find anything valuable...then throw the rest away. He might keep the credit cards and check books...but at least you'd get the rest back. If you cancel the cards and check #'s then you should be alright there too. Hate to hear this happened, I can only imagine...

Well, i hate to accuse anyone of anything, but and to add to the drama, before any of this unfolded, there was a disgruntled surg asst there that was 'heckling' my speaker and one of my oral surgeons who was presenting a new type of surg procedure.
she was yelling that the procedure is too expensive and that no one will ever buy in to it and that shes an unbenefited lowly asst who is a single mother and all of the companies are just as bad as the greedy docs ... at one point she was asked to step out of the dining room.
I spoke with her and she vented to me as well. She was asking how i could sell this stuff and what i thought about the company b/c no one in their right mind would buy the surgical tooling and what was the point anyway when the company would just change the tooling format/protocol in 2 years anyway just to make the old system obsolete...
anyway, shes leaves and then she comes back in to the bar area and i ask her whats wrong ... turns out she has lost her cell. (She has been nice to me in the offiece when i have seen her previously. Shes 45-ish ... single mom ... and i think she had a few apple-tinis so she is a little emotional and still mad at this point.) so i walk her to her car while im calling her cell phone and we find it under her seat ... we found it, and she should be on her way im assuming.
FFwd an hour later ... im leaving and looking for my bag at this point- i notice her car is still a few spaces from mine but she is no where to be found. im assuming she called a cab. i looked in her car with a flashlight ... no dice ...not saying she stole it, but who knows.
the meeting was in the back of a restaurant in the private dining area, but too many ppl showed up so about 10 of us hung out in the little 'hallway' between the room and the bar ... so i find it hard to beleive that anyone could walk into that hallway area and lift my bag w/o us seeing it.
weird nite
im going back to talk to the restraunt owner

Congrats on getting it back....I'd keep everything (appointments, customer info, etc.) on a computer if available. I do that with numbers on my cell in case something happens to it.

ive got the 'auto updater' verizon offers on both cells ... uploads all contact info to a server at 2 am every day ... and its only about 1.99 a month, so its a no brainer. i bet i have over 600 #s in my phone, so im not about to type all of those back in ...
i am interested in getting a "lojack" device or tag for my bag - if that is offered
