Just for ya'll who do not know yet, I guarantee our basketball team will not be last in the SEC. We may in fact compete. I realize killing our first three "no-name" opponents is expected, however I went to the game tonight and this team is MUCH better than last year.

Here is what I learned tonight:

-We are a TEAM, not just Tre' Kelley bouncing the ball around the whole game. Raley-Ross led the team in scoring with just 13 points, and we scored 103.

-Michael Holmes is a NBA player, no doubt. I did not realize who he was when he came in. Holmes is the biggest player on the team as a true freshman, he will be an impact player THIS YEAR.

-Our rebounding is better than most think, Muldrow was pulling them down easy. (Although Citadel's line is much smaller than ours)

-We shot 52% from the field and 75% of our 24 free throw attempts, I'll take it compared to last year.

-Downey is a team player with 11 assists tonight, and Dominique Archie is much improved. Archie was 5-6 from the floor with a sweet alley-oop in the second half.

There are other things I noticed, but obviously I'm really excited. Go to the games if you get a chance. This game was 103-42, our biggest margin of victory in 66 years! And Citadel scored 131 points in their first game, so they arent bad.

WE WILL BEAT TEAMS WE ARENT SUPPOSED TO THIS YEAR, MARK IT!

I'm too supersticious to say too much about my expecations. I won't say how good we looked tonight or rub it in all the haters' faces yet. But, I agree with you.

I've felt, since the end of the '05-'06 season (when we were landing our two prized transfers), that the 07-08 season was going to be a good one. But, then all of the buzzkills out there had to go and say we had no chance.

We've had a good start and I hope that we can continue to play the way we've been playing. GO COCKS!!!

i saw some highlights from a game last friday i think and downey got me really excited about them. I really want to get to a game this year.

Agree completely with all points. We have a legit chance to be good this season - with a bunch of Fr and So (there is only one senior and two juniors on the team). If we turn out competitive, it won't be because of mirrors and duct tape. It'll be from some talented play. Could be a fun season. Anyone on the fence should come out to the So Cal game Saturday. They're billing it as the game for the name (USC).

I agree; the Gamecock cagers this year will make some noise in the SEC East. We'll know more after playing Southern Cal on Saturday.

Yeah, I am with you 100% we're a fast team that still have more size than last year. I think this team potentially has 3 NBA players on its roster: Holmes, Downey, and Muldrow. I wouldn't be surprised if Downey got some interest in next years draft if he has a good season.

I have listened to both games on the radio. There seems to be a different atmosphere this year. You can even hear it in our announcers voices. It's great! Go Cocks!
