I have been impressed with the Gamecocks so far in two games. I know they haven't played any great teams yet, but they are beating them like you would expect a decent team to do. I did not realize how young the bball team is this year, 1 senior and 1 or 2 juinors(can't remember). What do you guys that follow it really close think about this year? With so much youth, I'm very interested in this year. I have not seen them play in person this year due to living in Greenville, but have listened to both games and Devan Downey and Zam Frederick seem to be really special players. How have the freshman from last year progressed so far this year? Thanks!

this team will be improved and the absence of a true cast of big men in the sec will help them. they will surprise people. i say 17-19 wins and odom keeps his job.

I think its obvious this team is better than last years. More depth, more talent, and honestly more leadership.

I say between 21-25 wins.

I think we'll surprise alot of people this year. Looking forward to seeing them play, hopefully this Sat night! My guess is 20 wins and an NCAA tourney bid. This team is more talented & much deeper than last year's. Gonna miss some of the players from last year though, hated to see a couple of them graduate.

It is a very exciting time for Gamecock BBall.

We still have some issues with big men, and we still have famished, lanky dudes down low. Beef up these boys! Take them to Palmetto Pig for every single meal every day this season.

Also, we still run our weird weave offense a bit too much, but it's doing damage right now against the middle school teams we are playing.

Still though, compared to other years, we look so much better and skilled. Downy is a little giant and Chad Gray, Sam Muldrow, and Mike Holmes have tremendous upside. It's gonna be a blast to attend basketball games again. Moreover, is anyone besides Tennessee good in the SEC this year anyway?

I think our lack of big men will be disguised by our ability to run the floor with Downey. He has an extra gear and a true post player would struggle to keep up. He is definitely a gamebreaker. We just need a big man that can give us Renaldo Balkman style of play, great defense, tenacious rebounding, and 10 pts a game.

odom will keep his job. next year they are going to dominate! might be a little young and no true big man

That's a good point. A lightning floor-running offense and having another Balkman-esque player will negate a big man anyday. Seriously, would you rather have Big Baby Davis or Balkman.

That may have been a weak example, I'll think for a bit and post a better example in a second haha...

Don't forget what Arkansas did with the "40 minutes of hell" teams from the 90's. No big men, but plenty of speed.

Definately Sweet 16, possibly Elite 8. After this year, we will be known as a Basketball and Equestrian powerhouse.

Can't argue with anything they have done so far. They look like they can play offense like no other team we have seen in a while at South Carolina. Downey is going to be something special and I believe an NCAA bid is a realistic goal.

So if we beat Southern Cal Saturday I guess we are a final four lock huh? Lets wait till we play a team with talent before we claim sweet 16

No disrespect to Trey because he was a good leader, but it just seems that Downey is possessed and on a mission. I just love players that play with fire in their eyes...... He reminds me of a Emanuel Cook in shorts.

So. Cal is 0-1 as of this morning. I think we can do well this year but it is arrogant to think that we are going to destroy everyone without seeing all of our competition

I think we have a good shot 19 -20 wins this year. But would an NIT be a dissappointment this year? Being so young, I would have to think that this team could make the NCAA tourney for the next 2 or 3 years in a row starting next year. I think Odom almost has to be given another year if this team makes the NIT. I am hoping NCAA though.

I see the big dance this year. We look amazing. We DESTROYED 2 teams that we didn't beat to badly last year.

So far the team looks to play more like a team than last year and seems to definately have more talent and depth. Yet, the teams we have played so far are not the quality of team that we will have to beat to get to the dance. Downey and Frederick have proven records of play at major programs, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the team develops. If we can get better as the year goes along, I can see us being in the middle of the pack of the conference and making a trip to the dance. Let's go COCKS.

Well, you might be happy to hear that none of our seniors from last year did graduate...... they did leave, though....:-x
