hes 6'2 242lbs from bynes. He has a few major offers and currently has FSU as his favorite. He has offers from va tech, wake, wisconsin, maryland, illinois, and others. He looks like a good looking prospect just wondering why clemson and USC hasnt offered yet. Anyone got any news on him?

I think people around here really wanna see what Byrnes has without Bentley's system to make them look good. I know how can you argue with 4 titles, but a lot of that was BB's system. I know there is some talent there and if there isn't they will surely go out and get some from other schools. (Cough Xavier Dye). But seriously I think local schools are waiting to see if these guys have real talent or benefitted from a pro system vs high school systems.

Interest In Dawkins Skyrocketing
By Phil Kornblut
Byrnes DE Everett Dawkins (6-3 235) has seen the offers from major schools roll in over the past few weeks. The list includes Wake Forest, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Michigan State, Florida State, Tennessee, Florida International, Wisconsin and NC State. USC is also showing interest and Dawkins talked Wednesday night with Gamecock recruiter Brad Lawing. "He wanted to know if I had interest and I told him I did," Dawkins said. "I've got to send him a tape." Dawkins has not scheduled any official visits but right now he's looking at Florida State, NC State, Wake Forest, Tennessee and Virginia Tech, but he said that could change. Florida State is his current favorite. "I have a tight connection with the coaches," he said. "I went to a three day camp there and I just liked the atmosphere." Dawkins had 120 tackles and 3 sacks last season. He has 31 tackles in three games this season.
Maybe Freddie Brown can sway him our way. He could be a nice pick up.

A system player? He's a defensive end, do they run a complex defense up at byrnes, from what I've seen they just try to put points on the board and let the d do what they can

Dawkins flew under the radar last year ('06) because of the Korn hype and the Stanley Hunter hype also. He is a solid player and I hope we can sway him.

And he might attend the Virginia Tech game this weekend. He also has taken official visits to Florida State and Tennessee. He will set official visits with USC, Florida State, Tennessee, Florida State and Virginia Tech. Dawkins said Florida State remains his favorite. I think that was a typo. If he comes here we would need him at LB not DE. We need big DEs and big LBs.

I hadn't heard about him being moved to LB, but I guess with his size, he'd be a good candidate to play either.

um 47 qb hurries, um i think we need him at DE, or a bandit end. We need more pressure and if you see this kid in his vids that guy knows how to get in the backfield. FSU is getting a good one with him. Why did it take us so long to offer? and why is clemson staying away from him? makes me wonder.

Actually, if you read the line before that, it says he has already taken an official visit to Fla State. So I guess it would 3 officials for FSU.:rotfl:
Why would you go to FSU? Their program is a mess. Bobby Bowden must do a helluva job hypnotizing them or making them delusional.. whatever it is they do over there.

Either way they put guys in the league more then anyone else since 2001. If that was a goal of mine that would definately be a good option for me. Both teams are very young and talented and i think will both be very very good next year.

DE Everett Dawkins (6-3 235) of Byrnes committed to Florida State Saturday while on an unofficial visit for the Maryland game. "I did commit to Florida State," Dawkins said Saturday evening. He also had considered USC, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and NC State.
We knew we had an uphill battle after offering so late.

this kid has all the tools to be a great player on defense. I cant believe we let this kid out of the state. Why does it take us so long to get offers out. Teams like fsu, uf, and even clemson already know who they want to offer by the time the kid is a sophmore what takes us so long. I trust sos and i know we will still get a good class but come on guys!!!

How many Clemson players turn out to be busts compared to our's? I don't think the number is that different. I wish we'd offer earlier too, but I'll just have to trust SOS to get it done.

Norwood also weighed about 30 pounds more. We can't sign them all.
Norwood is listed at 6-0 265 now after 2 years of a college strength program. E Dawkins is currently listed at 6-3 235.
I think EN was 6-1 250 (apparently he shrunk an inch LOL) out of HS and the knock on him was he was a 'tweener' or 'too small' like someone posted above ... my point was ED is about 2 or 3 inches taller than Norwood and has the frame to carry more weight. So its not the best argumnent (IMO) to say hes not a big loss simply based on his size. Norwood has panned out pretty well so far ...
plus, we still have a few months to turn him.

There's no way USC could've gotten every top prospect out of this state this season......we're only getting around 20 recruits, so some good players are going to play elsewhere. Plus Spurrier wants to bring in his type of prospect that he feels will help our program, and some prospects - though talented and highly rated - may not fill that bill.
Based on Spurrier's recruiting thus far, I'm trusting in him to get us the right talent.....

Evidently Clemson and USC both did not think enough about Dawkins to recruit him that hard right in our own backyard - CAN YOU SAY RED FLAG? Dawkins is not near as thick as Norwood, even comparing them as Senior's in HS Ga. At this time we as fans don't even know if his USC offer was in writing or just a verbal - with attachments.

I also think its imperative to start recruiting DE's the size of LSU 's ends, in the 275 to 285 pound range. Want to stop the run, get away from the smaller DE's. I like Quinn's size as he will easily be 280 lbs within 1 year. I also think you will see Matthew's stay at OLB IMO except on maybe some passing downs. Not sure if Dawkins lateral movement is good enough to translate to a LB position and his size at DE in the SEC I just don't think works anymore, just MHO.

He is 6'3 235, and in HS. The problem is most people think freshemen are supposed to play right off the bat, just because they do at our school. But at most big time schools kids dont see the field until there Jr years unless they are amazing athletes and just freaks of nature. This kid after he redshirt and then plays for a year will be amazing by his redshirt sophmore year and will be in your 265-275 range. But still be athletic. Most kids in HS that are already that weight are just big and fat and after they get to college they will lose about 20 pounds after preseason and summer workouts.
The point that you guys are missing here is that we offered, and we lost him. If we offered then we wanted him, theres no way to get around that. We just didnt recognize him soon enough. I know sos will get us a good class and im in no way about to panic or anything its just some people act like if they didnt choose us then they are not good or we just didnt really want him.
I honestly think next years class will be the best we will have had, it looks like we have brought a lot more jr's in this year to watch games and it looks like we have gotton a good start.
In sos i trust.

We have offered alot of people, more than we could ever sign. I think what YOU are missing is that neither Clemson or USC hardly pursued the kid. Does that not throw up a red flag to you? If not it should. We need bigger kids, plain and simple. You say we lost the kid but his offer was a verbal only, not in writing and there is a huge difference. Say what you will but its apparent he was NOT a USC priority.
