hey all,
i was wondering how people can sell game, or other event, tickets on ebay for ridiculous prices. how is this not scalping and against the law?

they have a warning against it...but I am not sure how it affects the sale of them.

i ebay a good bit, and when i was bidding on UNC tix there was a disclaimer stating you couldnt bid over "X" amount on each tix per NC law... i think it was 87/tix max
anyway, it was weird b/c a lot of the auctions were selling for over that amount. i tried to bid on a few that were over the 'max' yet still had a lot of time left (i did this just to see what would happen) and it would initially take my bid and then lose it ... so im not sure how it worked out. someone on ebay said that it would determine the winner after it was all over.
FWIW, i went to craigslist and found 5 for UNC.
I had a few xtras and sold them to USC fans for what i paid. i could have made some big $$ as the tix were going for 120+ outside the gates ... but craigslist was a great option IMO

If you look for tickets to a game or something, people will sell like a regular envelope for $200 and then "throw in" the tickets for free....cant get you for selling an envelope...

LOL
we had a fundraiser back home and one of the local, friendly DNR guys advised us that we legally couldnt sell shrimp we caught (w/o a biz license i think)
so we sold the paper plates for 12/head and gave the shrimp away ...
I have seen scalpers do this with pencils and tix ...

It's not a business license you needed but a commercial fishing license.
But back to the moral of the thread. People sell regular shit for crazy prices and toss in the tickets for free. Alot of times you see it with the envelopes the tix are shipped in. Sometimes they'll sell shirts or towels.

Each state has different laws and enforcement policies. Some states don't have internet scalping laws. You'd have to research each state to find out what the particular laws are. I'd have to imagine that some are on there illegally though.
