The Huntsville area of Alabama produces some very good football players.
Oh, and Ron Cooper knows how to evaluate talent in case you had forgotten.
Its also worth mentioning that Antonio Allen (current prep 4 star) was a 2-3 star coming out of high school.

hes a HS QB - very elusive ... not a track star but has very good vision and i never saw him caught from behind
with his build and moves, I would imagine he would get a look @ WR

hey man the kids vids looks great and all and i don't want to hear it from anyone i'm not bashing anybody but isn't he a little slow to play DB in the SEC? are we thinking about safety? or maybe a combo of a few positions. i just don't think a mid 4.55 is fast enough to cover some of these speed demons in the SEC - does anyone else think this?

He is being recruited as a Safety/Corner. Also good enough to start at QB on the HS Level. Coach Cooper likes the kid. Coach Coop has a proven track record.

Looks like a good athlete on video, will be a good addition to our secondary.
If there is one knock on our secondary, we don't have the size to match up with the Marcus Monk's of the SEC (other than Brandon Issac--but he's playing with ONE shoulder) . Hopefully Antonio Allen & Burns will become playmakers like a Ko Simpson.

Alabama DB Picks USC
By Phil Kornblut
USC landed a commitment Monday night from DB Jarrett Burns (6-3 186) of Huntsville, AL. Burns made an unofficial visit to USC for the Florida game and had been on their watch list. Monday night Gamecock recruiter Ron Cooper called with the official offer and Burns accepted. "It was a comfort level," Burns said. "I talk to coach Cooper all the time. He showed me he could be there for me if I need something. He can't do everything for me but he'll give that effort. That was something no other school showed. That was a big thing to me. And Darian (Stewart, also a Huntsville native) is like a brother to me." Burns can play safety but is being recruited as a big corner. "My advantage is my height," he said. "And I like to beat up the receiver. I like to come up and hit. And I rome the field well. Coach Spurrier said he needed some big, phyiscial defensive backs." This season Burns had 79 tackles and 1 interception. As a junior he had 71 tackles and 1 interception. And as a sophomore he totaled 70 tackles and 6 interceptions. Burns said he also had an offer from Louisiaiana Tech and was drawing serious interest from Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville and Mississippi State. He's also made unofficial visits to Auburn and Alabama.

Just watched his video, kid is pretty good with the ball in his hands. Didn't look like a 4.5 guy more like a 4.4, i guess he has sneeky speed. Looks to be a good one once he gets bigger.

really I don't care all the people we have from Alabama have been good when they are playing yes I'm again referring to the Lindseys troubles sorry had too so I think this guy will be good, sounds like he really wanted to be a Gamecock and to be reunited with his "brother" Stewart he will be a good fit

Im sure hes being recruited for D (and IMO, hes a S) but with his athleticism, i wouldnt be shocked to see him get a look on both sides initially... it seems our staff has no trouble trying playmakers at multipl positions on both sides of the ball ... we'll see.

"This season Burns had 79 tackles and 1 interception. As a junior he had 71 tackles and 1 interception. And as a sophomore he totaled 70 tackles and 6 interceptions." One thing you have to like about him is he has had a good amount of tackles every year which shows this kid knows how to tackle, which in my book is always a positive for anybody playing defense for our team.

Same speed and strength as Ko Simpson and he was a 2 star as well. Not always about 40 speed but game speed and knowledge of the game. Trust our coaches.

Here we go with the stars stuff again. I think our coaches do an excellent job evaluating and sounds like he will develop into a quality DB. I think Captain, Darian, and those guys can agree that he'll get the coaching he needs. Let's try to hold off judging the kid with the he's only 2 stars and let him get on campus first.
Anyways, pleasasnt surprise this morning with a commitment. Hopefully some more will fall soon.

One cinderelle team..... I would take my chances every time with the team that has more talent.
There is never any guarantees with a kid coming out of high school on how he will excel at the college level, but honestly the diamonds in the rough are far few and in between.
The teams that are consistently battling for conference championships are recruiting guys that are 4/5 star players.... Ironic that they continue to win?
Sure ND sucks this year and they are loaded from top to bottom with 4/5 star kids, but give their fat arse coach another year or two and ND will be back at the top once again.

hit the nail on the head. if the coaches could land 4/5 star kids this season they would be doing it. if we had about 3 classes in a row of top 5 classes then we could do some serious damage. one amazing year isn't gonna cut it.

No, that's bullcrap. I don't know why so many of you guys are so hung up on how many "stars" Rivals or Scout gives our recruits. I've seen 2-star recruits become All-Americans and All-Pro NFL players and I've seen 5-star recruits never make it pass their sophomore year b/c they SUCKED!!!! Anybody remember J.J. Brown???? He never even cracked the 2-deep roster at USC and he was one of the highest rated recruits the school ever got. Why can't you guys just be satisfied that if a kid is good enough to be offered a scholarship by Steve Spurrier then that means he's good enough to help our team? That's all that matters, what Rivals or Scout ranks us in the "recruiting war" means absolutely NOTHING!

Stars do not matter...nor do 40 times for that matter...not only was Ko a 2 star who was forced to greyshirt, but he was also a 4.5 guy...his instincts and feel for the game were unmatched though. Thats very important.

You're right.... and believe me they do get on these forums to see what everybody's saying about them. Any player who SOS believes is good enough to offer and who is happy to accept we should make them feel welcome and be thankful they are coming!

i think we'll bulk him up some and stay at S. we could use some extra depth next year behind e cook and darian.
and i dont think he'll play corner simply because of our depth there (cap, carlos, akeem, antonio allen, addison, stoney, and more i'm forgetting.
i kinda like the WR idea though. we could always use more height.

Carlos is gone after next year, and Antonio Allen is a safety, so you could see this guy wind up at corner. We need corners with height.

That's true, but it is no coincidence that the programs who traditionally recruit higher rated players, do better. Yes, stars don't always tell the story about a player, but generally it's a pretty good indication.

Tell that to Oregon, Arizona State, Missouri, Kansas, West Va., Va Tech, etc .. The big name schools usually get the big name players, although I think that is starting to change across the board, but those programs are not just the schools landing the kids with 5-stars by their name, those are the schools with the money to have the best facilities, coaches, and trainers also.

I seem to remember this guy we had named Ryan Brewer who wasn't the most impressive looking physical specimen. But the guy had grit and desire and was one hell of a football player because he WANTED to be here. With all due respect maybe this is exactly the reason that we have struggled the last few years or forever and presently sit at 6-5. Last years class was tremendous, but to win in the SEC it will take more than one awesome class to be contenders.

You're absolutely right. If you want to be a serious contendor in the SEC, you need to pull in a very good recruiting class every year(or at least most every year), because there are programs like Florida, LSU, Georgia, who are pulling in 4 and 5 star commitments left and right and have a great recruiting class every year. You can't count on most of your 3 star recruits to be better than expected, or great like a Sidney Rice or Fred Bennett. And to be a serious contendor that's what you're banking on when you sign a class made up primarily of 2 and 3 star recruits.

If you want to know the truth, SC has had better luck with 2 and 3 star kids. We have signed enough high profile kids with alot of Stars that never pan out. Some people put more emphasis on recruiting than the game itself. I think its about getting good student athletes and building chemistry. I think in the past we have taken the 4 and 5 star kids that maybe did not have that great of character off the field.

You can't prove that. Do you know what their 40's were? Do you know what size they were?
Sure, offers make stars go higher, but the internet also makes more offers come in because of film being easier to access, easier to get stats, etc.
