Anyone going to the Title game? I'll be there cheering on my Rebels.

No, I wish I could, I'll be at a board meeting on Saturday in Myrtle Beach. I was at the S'ville/Gaffney game and look forward to see how the Wave matches up against Byrnes. I know the Rebels killed Gaffney earlier in the year. I think S'ville is always fearful of playing Gaffney. Friday's game was a great high school matchup.
GO WAVE!

Summerville QB gunning for state title on USC's home field

The Post and Courier
Summerville quarterback Reid McCollum has thrown for 3,436 yards and 44 touchdowns this season, in leading the Green Wave to a 13-1 record.
SUMMERVILLE — As a child, Reid McCollum dreamed of playing football at Williams-Brice Stadium every time he watched the University of South Carolina play. His dream will become reality next fall when he puts on the Gamecocks uniform and runs onto the field as music from "2001: A Space Odyssey" blares.
On Saturday, McCollum will get a sneak preview of his future home when he leads the Summerville Green Wave (13-1) into the Division I-AAAA state championship game against the Byrnes Rebels (14-0) at noon.
"I'm excited to go up there and play a game because that's where I'm going to be the next few years," said McCollum, who has passed for 3,436 yards and 44 touchdowns this fall. "But I'm not focused on (next year). I'm just trying to get through this week and get to a state championship."
McCollum was a sophomore when the Green Wave last played in Williams-Brice. He was on the sidelines when Summerville let a 26-7 halftime lead slip away in a 33-32 loss to Gaffney. McCollum didn't play, but he still felt the pain.
"Being one of the guys on that team, we know more than the other players how it felt to go to the state championship game and lose, so we really don't want that to happen again," he said.
McCollum tied a state record with nine touchdowns passes in a 78-47 victory over Fort Dorchester in the second round of the playoffs. His 210 completions this season rank No. 6 in state history. McCollum's 44 touchdown passes this season are second in state history only to Willy Korn's 53 TD passes in 2005. But the only thing that matters to the 6-4 senior is what happens Saturday. And the reason why it matters so much is because of two people: Louis Mulkey and Cassidy Pendley.
Each was close to McCollum.
Each died in a fire.
Mulkey, a coach at Summerville, was one of nine Charleston firefighters who perished in the June 18 Sofa Super Store fire. Pendley, a former Fort Dorchester cheerleader and McCollum's high school sweetheart, was one of seven college students who died in a North Carolina beach-house fire in late October. She was a student at USC at the time of her death.
The tragic deaths tested McCollum, who used football as an escape from such trying times.
"For me, football has always been an outlet for that, especially this year" McCollum said. "You just go out there on the practice field or on Friday, and it's not out of your mind but you can focus on something else. So, it takes your mind off it for a while. That's why I look forward to a game or practice. It sort of relaxes me a little bit."
McCollum said Mulkey helped him develop as a quarterback.
"So, I owe him a lot. I want to go up there this year and do it in his memory," McCollum said. "With him, he was always really tough on me. There were some coaches who would sort of build me up and build me up. But he broke me down until I didn't think I could play quarterback at the high school level. And he built me back up that I had the confidence that I could make every pass out there."
Even though Pendley went to McCollum's rival school, Fort Dorchester, she was always on his side.
"She always supported me over here, and she'd make it to as many games as she could," McCollum said. "She was looking forward to me being up in Columbia and watching that game Saturday because she knew the type of team we had. I'll do the best I can for her. She will always be in my mind."
Best of luck to Reid I am rooting for the Green Wave. I hope Reid smokes them.

what are byrnes' strenghts? do they just reload?
Byrnes' strength is in their kids starting to learn the offense when they are like 10. The middle schools run the same playbook so by the time they get to Byrnes they know 'em like the back of their hand. All they do when they get to Byrnes is strength conditioning and brushing up on all their schemes which they have run since they were little. The middle schools are training grounds so that's why you have a sophomore QB and RB who will carry them for two more years and, yes, we reload.

All of their QB's put up similar numbers to Korn which was why I was shocked to see everyone so gaga over Korn.
And KCSuge is right...these kids are part of a system.

ahh so nice to see summerville get blown out. those people never stop talking trash and they think only losing a game or two in the regular season is a big thing. There are only 2 or 3 good teams year in and year out in the lowcountry. The lower state and upper state teams are like the ACC and the SEC, the best 1 and 2 cant beat the the 4th or 5th place team. Anyways, glad to hear they lost. Maybe Stratford can get it together so we can lose in the state final next year
