in a forty plus point route. they shot 54% from the field. that's all of the good news. now for the bad news, they only shot around 60% from the charity stripe. but they had a lot of blocked shots and a few steals as well. this team could be special if they can grow up fast.

Don't you know that is what Dave Odom preaches??

Bad free throw shooting. :rotfl:

Well, we did play Campbell....we can't seem to do sh!t when we play much better teams. As long as Odom is here, we will continue to lose close games (at best) to good teams.

My opinion on this team is there are going to be games they look like world beaters and there is going to be games when they get blown out. I think when you live by the 3 point ball this is what happens. It is a low %shot and when your on your on and when your not your not. We need more inside presence.

maybe i'm out of the loop with the bball stuff, because i don't get the "this is what odom preaches" reference, or the comment about getting blown out. we haven't been blown out in any games this year, to my knowledge, and we have played some pretty good teams.
we have had to live by the longer jump shots, because our only guys who can give us an inside presence, are freshmen, and are having to learn very quickly. they do seem to be coming on, as of late, but until they are really ready to contribute more, we will have to continue to live and die by the long jumpers. but these guys show flashes of being really good, and hopefully they will continue to learn at this rate.

Well as of now we have beat the teams we should have and lost the ones we were underdogs in. Except maybe George Mason, but they are a decent team.

I don't know what to think about this team, but I don't understand all the negative talk about them. Maybe it's a reaction to the end of football season, but you should at least let the bball season get a month old before you start ripping them.

4-3 is hard to get excited about in December. We really need to win out for this month to have a shot at the NCAA. If we have 5 losses going into Jan. it will be a long year.

I see what your saying snoop, but we missed at least five (5) easy layups or point blank tip-ins against So. Cal and NC State a piece. Not to mention, our free throw shooting is still horrible....that's an Odom tradition and the "what he preaches" comment is about.

You're right on... I was at this game and our inside presence leaves much to be desired. With that said, our inside game IS made up of two frehsmen, Mike Holmes and Sam Muldrow. They are young and will only get better, bigger and stronger.

Downey continues his domination though. He is SO FAST, it seems like he can go down the court in the blink of any eye.

I also saw that Austin Steed came in late and caught a nice pass in the low post for an easy layup. Steed seemed more comfortable down low than Holmes or Muldrow, at least in this game. Muldrow seems to have a better defensive presence, while Holmes seems to have a natural ability to get to the basket and score. He does a nice job of following shots from his other teammates to the hoop and finishing if the ball comes out of the cylinder.

Zam Frederick and Brandis Raley-Ross were both impressive shooting last night.

Chad Gray looked lost. Right when came in for 'Nique off the bench, he got confused and left his man, who immediately drove down and jammed it into the hoop. He looks slower and more lackadaisical than last year. There just seems to be something wrong with Chad this year so far...

Dwayne Day was impressive at times, other times I would've benched him. Typical for Dwayne. I sure wish we could figure out what makes the lightbulb come on in this guy's head, becasue when he's on he is ON, but the same holds true for when he's off.

Overall, I think we're an NIT team this year. We can start lookin at the NCAA tourney next year or the year after, if our players continue to grow. We'll see...

Odom preaches missing point blank shots?

Be reasonable.

btw,
Read the post game article from the game. Dave said the point of emphasis was going to be the inside game, but Campbell played a zone that dared us to shoot it from the outside, so we did. We took what the defense gave us. Even the Campbell coach said they decided before the game to "pick their poision", and they decided to take away the inside game and made us beat them from outside. Seems to me we did exactly what we had to do to win the game. Hard to find much fault in that.

Well it's very obvious Odom doesn't preach ft shooting. someone dig up our season team ft shooting percentages over the past 5 or 6 years. it's horrendous

I was listening to another game and the announcers were discussing free throws and they said that to shoot well from the line you have to recruit players that shoot free throws well. Seems like once they get to this level they can either shoot them or they can't. The announcers went on to say that if you practice them too much then it becomes a mental problem and not a form problem. In the NC State game we needed our shooters to get to the line, not the big guys. That didn't happen and we obviously lost.
