An article on another site said that Bruce Taylor, a VT commit from Myrtle Beach, SC was apparently a surprise visitor for the Mississippi State game. Does anybody know anything about his visit. Was he as impressed as Mattes and Moore.

I know that he loves VT, and has always been a fan. I would guess that we are impressing him so far this season. It also helps that VT is not playing good football right now. Hopefully he was happy with the way we play defense, and felt good about the coaches/players. I think he is still strong on VT, but you never know, we have taken commits from them before. I believe it was Jonathan Hannah a couple years back, and most recently Aijboye.

Does anybody have a subscription to "that site" w/ the article? I was told they frown on us linking their site to ours. What does that article on "said" website say?

O yeah, forgot about him. Well damn, I hope we steal Taylor away and make this a once a year thing.

I just read that he was supposed to be at VT this weekend and couldn't make it, so he came hear. He told the reporter he liked the visit and that he just like to watch football. He said that he was still committed to VT, but he might make a return visit/ official visit. You can read the article for free at thebigspur.com

I know he made a suprise visit and said he like the approach Carolina has taken with him and said he is probably going to see CU take on VT and then either come back and see us play against florida or see VT play miami. I for some bias reason honestly think we have a lil shot at him. It sounds like he enjoyed his trip, and even though he says at the moment he is firm in his commitment i still kinda wonder. What do you guys think are chance is? and how good is this kid?

we have no shot, i talked to him today, he just said he had nothing better to do, so he came to see us play, if there is any chance we get him its about 5%

Yeah really ACC or SEC? No freakin' contest....the ACC is down yet again this year and will be for years to come while the SEC is just a freight train powerhouse year after year.

Maybe he's going to the ACC to guarantee he doesn't get hurt.

Don't trash a recruit because until the LOI is signed he can still change his mind and decide he wants to come here.

He's going to VT b/c of Brandon Frye and Tech's defense. They also thrive on the LB position and VT is very thin at the middle LB position so he will more than likely get a chance to start. That aside, he is a man child.

He is a good player, have seen him numerous times. I'll take a Melvin Ingram over Bruce anyday of the week.

Taylor Meets With USC Recruiter

By Phil Kornblut
Myrtle Beach LB and Virginia Tech commitment Bruce Taylor (6-2 230) met with USC recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. earlier this week. Taylor said Spurrier was in the area checking on prospects and stopped by the school to see him. Taylor made an unofficial visit to USC for the Clemson game last weekend. "I'm thinking about making an official visit to USC in January but I'm not sure at this point," Taylor said. "I'm pretty committed to Virginia Tech. I just want to check the place out but I'm pretty sure I'm going to Virginia Tech." Taylor is a Shrine Bowl selection. This season he had 188 tackles in 13 games. He totaled 170 tackles as a junior.

Bruce Taylor joins Charles Whitlock in our state's most underrated players this year. If Taylor commits to us, we as a whole will start to realize just how good of a player he really is.

I think signing a big run stopping MLB is right at the top of Carolina's recruiting needs for this year.I imagine the coaches are putting the full court press on Bruce...VT will REALLY be pissed if we turn this guy. They are still mad about us turning Hannah and Ladi.

It would be fun to be a fly on the wall at the next Beamer family reunion if this occurred.

I pray that VT gets him but I think VT might have plans for him at DE so he may come here if he is looking at the MLB position. I could be wrong and hope I am b/c I want to see him at MLB but that's what someone said on Hokiehaven.com. It's hard to pass up the opportunity to play for Bud Foster when he uses his LB's on third down passing situations and that their defense is always good.

Why would VT move him to DE...???? For whatever reason on your board most people seem to think he is a DE ... I really don't understand that but you have a succesful program so who am I to question your Coaches.

Mmmm. Rivals has Clemson listed as his 2nd choice. TB needs to head down there and talk to his mom. Tell her that he makes all his players go to church and graduate. Remember that Recruiters have rules on how often you can contact a player and what you can offer. Parents don't. Recruit his mom and she'll nag him until he'd sign with Graveyard U if she'd just shut up!! LOL!! Go Tigers.

I really do not want him to move to DE but VT has a good history of converted LBs to DE as is seen with Cornell Brown and Corey Moore. I will say however that he is my favorite recruit on VTs board right now and I really want to see him at MLB. He already has the body for it and obviously has the motor as is seen with almost 550 career tackles in H.S.

VT better pray he doesn't visit USC on a official. This kid is on the fence already and a visit to USC could sway him. He knows he would have a real chance at early PT here!

USC-Hokie
11-30-2007, 02:29 PM
Yeah he would get very early playing time and Bud Foster might be on his way to a head coaching job. I have this thing where I pray VT gets all of the best defensive players and that USC gets all of the best offensive players whereas I should be thinking the exact opposite. VT needs a better O and USC needs the D. What a difficult position to be in.

We could really use him here. He's a beast and a playmaker. Helluva player.

You can't deny that Virginia Tech knows how to make a good LB, but I'm hoping that Bruce Taylor will want to come here and get a year under Jasper Brinkley then battle Melvin Ingram for that oh-so-important MLB spot.

If the Myrtle Beach MLB is getting that many tackles , someone had better be looking at his DL,s taking the double teames for him ... ...

That's what I'm thinking. If Bud Foster ends up at Carolina, we'll have an offensive and defensive genius leading our team. We will have the best offensive and defensive coordinator in the SEC. Then, there will NO excuse for not taking home an SEC title in the near future...

from what i have read he doesent seem to be impressing anyone right now. they said he has an outside backers body but runs like a middle backer which isnt a good combo. they say he is doing ok but dont be suprised to see him drop down in the rankings.

I have heard that as wel and i was trying to decipher it - sour grapes or is the kid slower than advertised? and if he is that slow, how could have have been this poorly evaluated?

JMO, but i think he will be a solid college 'backer

He's as good as advertised. If not, we wouldn't still be recruiting him as hard as we are.

Taylor Sticking With Virginia Tech

By Phil Kornblut
Shrine Bowl LB Bruce Taylor (6-2 230) of Myrtle Beach says he remains firmly committed to Virginia Tech and will not take any other visits in January other than the one to Blacksburg on the 18th. Taylor had considered a visit to USC but he says now that won't happen. "My committment to Virginia Tech is 100% solid," Taylor said. Taylor finished the season with 188 tackles and 30 tackles for loss.

If he was as good as advertised he didn't show it during the week of the Shrine Bowl. He played allot of FB due to the lack of being impressive on D.

I know he is a good lb, but I have been hearing he is a little over hyped. We will do fine at lb in this years class.

Sterling Lucas, Devin Taylor, and J.B. Shippy were all on the South squad, so if Bruce Taylor couldn't make the starting lineup, at least he lost out to other D-I'ers.
