I've never been a ban wagon person and I've noticed so many folks wanting this dude to come and take nix's place as dc. While I do think changes need to be made I wanted to do a lil research first and see how some of these fellows teams ranked in rush and total defense. IMO I think the dude from GT is the answer!! Look where his team is ranked. Mississippi was ranked worse than we were in rush defense. While GT was knocking on the door of the top ten. And I know someone's gonna say, "Do you have a source for your information"? Why yes i do!!

Have fun looking through the rankings and if you base who you would like to have on this past seasons results, Orgeron is NOT the answer!! Ha Ha sounds like a political race!! Vote for the dc from GT. Just thought I'd share!!

I think that is just a rumor, but if any changes are gonna be made I think we need to hurry along because all the good guys are gonna be snatched up quickly with all the openings around the country!!

You want a good defensive coordinator, try Bud Foster of Va. Tech. I will take those numbers any day.

Orgeron's never been a coordinator so why would we want him to replace a guy who has been doing it about 15 years.

Numbers aren't everything. I'm not convinced all of our "problems" are schemes, players, or injuries...but a lot of it is apathy as described by the HBC (we played like we didn't give a dam).
I believe new motivation and confidence amongst the players will work wonders for us.

Injuries is what killed us this year on defense. The only big mistake that I saw that Nix made is replacing injured players with veteran players that didn't seem to care to play 100% on every down instead of lesser experienced freshman that were willing to put it all out on the field. The Clemson game showed me that although they made there fair share of mistakes that the younger players were giving all out effort. That shows alot of promise for next year.

Yes, I would prefer Tenuta as DC way over Orgeron. I also like Cincinnati's DC and coaching staff as well.

May be an old excuse to you but if you take a look at who we lost....it was the heart of the Defense and started in the preseason. Sure, epth is nice to talk about and we had some but we havent been stockpiling for 50 years like our opponents have.

I'm not saying that Tenuta wouldn't be a better DC than Orgeron or that Orgeron is the answer to our defensive woes, however, I would like to 0point out some factors that help GT's defensive stats trump Ole miss's defensive stats. 1- The SEC is a much more talented conference than the SEC. There are no McFadden's, Jone's, Hester's, Little's in the ACC.
2- GT has a better team overall from top to bottom talent wise than Ole Miss does.
Not disagreeing with you just wanted to point those things out.

We gave up over 250 yards rushing to La-La when everyone was healthy.. The rush defense sucked ass way before all the injuries started mounting up..

injuries arent excuses - theyre fact
couple that with our lack of quality replacements/depth = disaster

You are right they don't have a mcfadden/jones, but seriously who in the country did?? They did have a davis/spiller and mareno to contend with. I do agree they have better talent, but they were worst than us!! That has to mean something!!

Nope...and I guess we played with only 9 guys with Jap & Nathan out?
First of the year, Tyrone was excited about our "depth" on defense...now we are using lack of depth as an excuse.
FWIW, Marvin Sapp is a good LB as are the rest of our guys. And they are much better than all that stupid 500+ yds Arky got or those 5 rushing TDs that Tebow got.
Some of you continue to covertly bash our other players while being in denial that the problems are much deeper than a few injuries.
It's coaching folks...wake up!

I agree, Orgeron probably wouldn't be the best choice for a DC. However, he'd make a heck of a DL coach, which is what he was before going to Ole Miss.
Is Tenuta the answer? Seemed like earlier this year he was getting some heat for his work...I remember articles written talking about what a defensive genious he is, but his results didn't match his reputation. He may be overrated..it may be better to let someone else take him, provided he doesn't take over at GT.
Actually, one name mentioned is intriguing..Bud Foster at Va Tech. His defenses play smart, play hard, fly to the ball, blitz, and get results. Plus, he should have some links to the Tidewater area of Virginia, which is a hotbed for recruiting. He would make perfect sense to hire as a DC. Plus..it would piss Beamer off again.:rotfl:

You're right. Spiller/Davis are just as good as any backs in the SEC. To prove it let's look at games where Clemson and an SEC team had a similar opponent.
Clem played Va Tech and the mighty Spiller/Davis combo totaled something close to 12 yards on 12 carries.
Va Tech also played LSU, I dont know what Hester and Williams stats against Va Tech were but I know it was a lot more than 12 yards.
My point is that there is much more talent in the SEC than ACC and as a result an SEC team's defensive stats will take more hits than an ACC team's defensive stats. Also, Georgia Tech, on top of facing lesser quality opponents than Ole Miss, has more talent than Ole Miss.

everyone was not healthy, no emmanuel cook. i almost want to type in caps. the adjustments were made the next week with stewart getting his first start and cook getting his first action in spot duty, pepper moving over to de and we contained georgia. so why is the opener continually brought up when whatever happened in that game that caused everyone to think georgia would destroy us was fixed.
if youre going to bring up the ull game as undeniable proof that we were doomed no matter how much talent we had on the field, just say you dont like coach nix and blame him for any and every thing and anything good that happened wasnt really good and if it was good its wasnt because of him.
of course orgeron was not ever the answer

It's also a hotbed for thugs, which we don't need....but I know what your saying. I wouldn't think he'd leave Va Tech anyway with what they have built there.

In 2003, Orgeron guided USC’s highly regarded “Wild Bunch II” defensive line (ends Kenechi Udeze, Omar Nazel and Frostee Rucker and tackles Shaun Cody and Mike Patterson) as the Trojans led the nation in rushing defense. Udeze was a consensus All-America first teamer and an NFL first round pick, while Udeze, Cody and Patterson all earned All-Pac-10 first team honors (the most defensive line first teamers from any league school since Washington State also had three in 1994). In 1998, Trojan defensive tackle Ennis Davis was named to the All-Pac-10 first team.
Sounds like we need him as a d line coach!! NOT a D cordinator!!

I disagree. Ty Nix had the 4th best pass defense one year as DC at Southern Miss, but his run defense was terrible. It comes down to how he lines 'em up, IMO.
