What's the word on Cory's NFL possibilities? What round do you guys think he will go in?

I think he's a first day pick probably 2nd round would be my guess right now

Unfortunantly I dont think he will be a 1st or 2nd rounder. Hopefully he will go on the 1st day. I think the way the team finished the year is going to hurt his draft status but hopefully he can improve his stock with a solid combine.

I have heard early 2nd day unless he proves he's speedy at the combine. I think coming out of high school he ran pretty bad 40's. I'm not sure of the exact time but for some reason I remember them being in the 4.6-4.7 range.

good question man hopefully the 2nd round but probably the 3rd. nfldraftcountdown has him as the number 9 RB in the class.

How do you figure the TEAM's performance will hurt his draft status? those are two completely seperate things imo

I'm thinking late 3rd to early 5th. But whoever picks him will be happy they did.

Realistically, unless he does sub 4.5 in the 40 and has an incredible weight lifting session, I doubt he'll go above round four or five.
I'm saying this with garnet shades off and as somebody who has been watching the NFL draft and charting players since the first year the draft was televised on ESPN. IMHO Boyd will have to have an above average showing at the combine to even get drafted.
I said the same thing about Syvelle last year and got blasted on this very message board. Syvelle did not have a good combine and it hurt him greatly. Cory, like Syvelle, has a lot of heart which can go a long way in college ball, but heart only gets you on a practice squad or maybe on special teams in the NFL. RBs in the NFL excel in a combination of size, speed and strength. Cory has the prototypical size, but neither speed nor strength (that I've seen) have been published as exceptional. That's why his combine performance will either make or break him.

if he gets his speed up some, i say late 2nd to 3rd, depending on who's drafted and who's drafting (trades and all)

He won't go in the first round, but he will be back like cooked crack.

Maybe he can't bench 225 30 times, but he can truck some guys sure enough. I think his running style definitely gives him a shot at being drafted. Also (underrated in college backs), he has GREAT hands. Remember that one handed catch he made?

i dont think he will go first or second round but definately no later than the 4th. i think people will look at his receiving numbers and his performance at the combine and take a chance on him to be a 3rd down back like kevin faulk. hopefully he will get a shot and a nice pay check for all he has done for us here.

yeah he has the strength, i dont get why you would mention the prototypical size and not the strength, he's as tough a runner as there is in the nation.
cory is an every down back, he can do it all.
its not a comparable situation to syvelle because syvelle had to switch positions, though syvelle probably should have been trying out at running back too. only thing cory lacks is elite speed, but you wouldnt expect someone his size to have elite speed, i guarantee you he would do a lot more than cedric benson.
hopefully we get to see cory in one of those pre draft college all star bowl games along with casper

He will be lucky to be picked in the first four rounds. I'll say sixth round team looking for a cleanup back, or he could end up in a situation like Willie Parker where he goes from undrafted to starter in three years.

Hopefully second round, it all depends on his combine though

He will get a lot of looks from teams because of his ability to catch the football out of the backfield.

IMHO, he'll draw a lot of interest from scouts but it won't translate into high draft status. If he gets drafted at all, it will be a late round. At some point, he'll get a chance though.

Yes, I would say very late overall. His lack of speed is a big problem for NFL scouts & the list provided above does not include guys who leave early like D-Mac or Steve Slaton. People need to remember, most teams may not be look at RBs in the first few rds.
Cory's greatest asset to the NFL is his catching and playmaking after the catch. He has above average open field running skills IMO.

5th round maybe.

Cory doesn't have blazing speed. He gets caught from behind a lot. But he is good at short yardage situations and great at receiving. Tough runner. Somebody will pikc him up as a 2nd back...maybe a short yardage specialist.

He'll get drafted. Not sure what round. He'll be an asset to whoever picks him up.

i was looking at the NFL draft site and did anyone wonder over to the LB section? I did, and Jasper's name is nowhere on the list. Probably because if he did decide to go he wouldn't be in that elite group anymore or maybe because they know he wouldn't go yet. Both good for us though

i wouldnt be surprised to see some team that needs a lot of help at RB to get one in the 1st then Cory later for a young, fresh backfield. someone like Detroit (Kevin Jones now), Texans (Ron Dayne), Falcons (Dunn's getting old, have Norwood), etc. i also wouldnt mind seeing my Panthers get him, as they need a short yardage back. Hoover's pretty good, but Foster and Williams dont have strong power, and Goings is overrated.

I personally think he will go late 4th or maybe fall into the 5th. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't drafted at all and became a free agent with how strange the draft can work sometimes...in that same sense, he could surprise many and go as high as 2nd round.

haha yeah pretty much...but hell, i thought Chris Leak got shafted and my jaw dropped when he wasn't included in the draft...and honestly, Leak did much more for his position than Boyd ever did in comparison- so it just makes me wonder sometimes what these scouts are looking for. I don't think he is early material...but don't think he is dead last material either...so I'm sticking with 4th-5th round. lol

I guess a better way to ask the question would be...
Which RB's will go ahead of Cory?
I hope he keeps close ties with the school...he's one heck of an individual.

if these players all go, i'd say
mcfadden
felix jones
kevin smith
steve slaton
ray rice
tashard choice
mike hart
chaunsey washington
rashard mendenhall
jonathan stewert
and maybe
alley broussard
benjarvus green-ellis
tony temple
not all are seniors and some may stay

That's exactly who I was thinking.
While watching Willis Mcgahee last night..i saw a little bit of Cory Boyd in his running style.

Yeah, Im a little bit afraid that Cory doesnt have the break away speed to make him a first day guy - in fact, I dont think there is any way that happens. I just hope he gets drafted, period. Although, if he drops far enough, it might be in Cory's best interest to NOT get drafted so he can pick the situation he wants to compete in.

He would do well in an offense that throws to the RB...like a west coast offense. I think the Rams & Eagles both do a lot of this although those teams are not doing well.
The Steelers may be a good fit, but they love big bruising backs...Cory will have to get bigger....but he has the height for it. Duce gained a lot of weight when he played NFL.
Cory makes good cuts in the open field. It's impressive!

yeah i think a lot of folks on here are underestimating him or at the very least pigeonholing him. cory can perform in any offense. the saints would be smart to give him a look with deuce mcallister on his 2nd major injury and reggie bush not being the superstar that they thought he'd be.
cory is already big enough for the nfl, he's already in the 6'1 215-220 range, he gets any bigger and he's sacrificing too much speed.
the nfl has changed the draft broadcast to where i think only the first two rounds are on saturday so yeah he just might end up on the 2nd day.
on nfldraftnews these are 6 senior rb's they have rated higher than cory, mike hart, tashard choice, allen patrick, chris johnson ecu, ryan torrain asu, rafael little. personally i think he can pass up any of those guys. he'll have to show it, but i think scouts will be impressed with his versatility and toughness. hopefully they invite cory to the senior bowl, i dont see why they wouldnt
