USC A Finalist For Linebacker

By Phil Kornblut
LB Jacoby Thomas (6-0 225) of Mobile, AL has trimmed his list to a final three of USC, Purdue and Alabama with no favorite. "South Carolina has senior linebackers so I'm pretty sure I can go in there and work my way up to a starting job," Thomas said. "I'm just basically looking for a college where I can play and not be redshirted. Education wise, they are all pretty much the same." Thomas added that the three are recruiting him with the same effort. He plans to make official visits to USC and Purdue during the school year. Thomas also has offers from Colorado, UAB and Auburn, and he's hearing from Southern Miss.

This sounds positive for us.

is down to three, USC, BAMA, Purdue. This kid is a freak at 6 ft tall 220lbs and runs a 4.6 forty while still benching 400lbs. This kid hits very very hard. if you havent yet look at his vids he looks like a melvin ingram clone!!! I really hope we can land this kid bc he is going to be sick at the next level.

If it's down to us, Bama, and Purdue, then Bama seems to be the one we need to beat out for this kid. Who wouldn't wanna play in the best conference in the nation?

yea but he said he knows we are losing two sr linebackers and that if he worked hard he has a good shot at early pt. and he knows we are an up and coming program. I really think if we can wow him on his visit here we have a really good shot at him.

I just watched about a 2 minute video on this guy on rivals. In the video it looks like he is trying to kill the person with the ball. I really hope we steal this guy from Alabama.

First time I ever saw his highlights....

WOW...this kid is a head hunter out there. Blowing up plays inside, outside, and just killing the man w/ the ball! He would be a HUGE pick-up.

Thomas Has Meeting Set With Cooper

By Phil Kornblut

Thomas said he remains very interested in USC and Cooper is strongly interested in him. This is a lb we really need. With a commit by Thomas, our lb core for this class would be great.

I agree that Jacoby Thomas would make our LB core even better, but with Shaq Wilson and Reggie Bowens, I think our LB core for this class is already great.

i only saw one linebacker committed to bama, they have about 4 DE's committed but only 1 LB unless my eyes are messed up. But bama hasnt offered this kid and niether has auburn so it makes me wonder. i know they didnt offer captain either but still it makes me wonder. He hits very hard and looks like a good prospect. By his redshirt sophmore year i think this kid could be a all conference type player.

He has just about the same size as E Cook with exception a little slower and not as much strength. The strength will come with a few seasons in weight training. He does seem like a stout player though.

Go Cocks!

I've heard good things about Mr. Thomas. I'd be excited to get him, but I don't think he's a requirement to make this a good LB class. Shaq Wilson and Reggie Bowens combined with Melvin Ingram in the future sounds very nice to me. Of course, we need to recruit more LB to fill in the depth, but we may worry about that more next year.

Thomas Delays USC Visit

By Phil Kornblut
LB Jacoby Thomas (5-11 225) of Mobile, AL was scheduled for his official visit to USC this weekend but the trip has been put off for at least a week. "Coach Cooper wanted to change the date," Thomas said. "He said something about getting me more time with Steve Spurrier. South Carolina is definitely in my top two. I am going to be looking at all of the different things. Education, of course, is something that I will be looking at. I also am going to be looking at the atmosphere. I just want to feel like I am at home when I am there. I will probably wait until National Signing day, but there could be a chance that I commit on my visit if I like it a lot." Thomas also is interested in Alabama but the Crimson Tide has not offered.

I think we end up with Jacoby "Headhunter" Thomas on our commitment list. Let's hope Alabama doesn't wise up and offer.

USC Backs Off Thomas

By Phil Kornblut
USC has backed off LB Jacoby Thomas (6-0 232) of Mobile, AL and won't bring him in for his scheduled official visit this weekend. Thomas had been strong on the Gamecocks throughout the recruiting season but concerns about his academics forced the Gamecocks to pull off.

Yep. Either that, or we have a silent commit from some other lb.

Will4144

Looks like there is another LB that we've been recruiting that we don't know about or we've pulled in someone unexpectedly. That's the only reason I can think of that we'd pull off two LB's within a week (Jason Jones, Jacoby Thomas).

E.J. Abrams-Ward is the only uncommitted guy that I think we have rated higher on our board at LB than Thomas. Jones was probably a little lower than Sterling Lucas.

Wouldn't it be exciting if we turned Arthur Brown (a very highly rated guy that we had an official visit from earlier in the year)?
