Next year i think its going to be Davis year and its time for him to step up and Hopefully Maddox will get some good playing as well but Davis has really step up this past year still not as good as boyd but he is getting there.

Davis played excellent in the second half of the season as a Freshman in 05 and 06, but started a little slow in both season. However, this year it seemed like he was in the coaches dog house most of the year and was on a very short leash. I like the way Davis runs and really think if he stays healthy and maintains the starting spot, he'll get 1,000 yds in 08' and truly believe that Maddox will compliment him we'll in the backfield.

I think Davis runs hard and I think Maddox will be a force. I also see Bobby Wallace getting some serious reps this year. Wallace RS'ting was the best thing - imo - for him and the Team. I personally feel the running game will continue to improve mainly due to the young hogs maturing another year. I expect the OLine and the running game to be vastly improved. I really really like what we have on the OLine depth chart. I know they have major room for improvement but the cupboard was pretty much bare in this area when Spurrier took over. The good news is that I expect Eck, G Anderson, S Anderson, Batchelor, Young, Nunn, Broadhead, Q Richardson, P Andrews, Terrance Campbell, LPJ, will all in the long run be a nice group of OLineman and be a force in 2008. Throw in the fact we have Sorenson, Thind, and Meredith coming back next year as well. You gotta admit, the Staff has actually addressed the depth issue on the OLine and this is the year it should and will show. While allot of folks think we are in dire strates to bring in a bunch of OLineman this year, I think we are pretty solid in the area for the future. I think if we can get some reall good ones, we need them but its a far cry from what some have made it out to be and the day Spurrier took this job. Yes we need to recruit some more this year - we need to every year - but the guys listed above will be more than capable of providing some holes for the RB's.

If our OLine comes together early next year (which it will have to given our early competition), we will have a 1,000 yard rusher. They are very talented, individually, just need to gel and gel early.
If they gel, we have a stable of tough, SEC caliber, backs to run behind them.

This will be the year that the great OLine recruiting haul of 2005 should be ready to contribute as a whole. There are allot of highly ranked kids on that list that will make this offense go.

After his fumble in the red zone in the 4th quarter against UT he didn't get many more carries.

Davis, Maddux, Wallace we should be loaded at running back.

Maddox will be the guy. Davis just don't have the speed. To me he's more suited for FB. He's a good blocker and can catch the ball out of the backfield.

You mean 2006....Spurrier hardly recruited any O-line his first year in '05. The '06 class was entirely different: 3 4* O-linemen in Young, Anderson and Eckerson, and 7 OL overall (we actually recruited 8 OL, but 4* JUCO Clarence Bailey never made it. I wonder what happened to him?).
I was a little disappointed in Davis' production down the stretch. He has had a history of starting cold, and when he came firing out of the blocks to start this season, I thought he was going to have a great season. Maybe he needs to have 15+ carries in order to really get his wheels rolling. His ypc average was not that bad throughout the season, which would indicate that he was deserving of more touches, but he was almost a non-factor the last 3 games or so. I say almost, because he did factor in on some ST plays, but not in the fashion we all would've preferred.....

He will redshirt there is no way he plays when we have Davis, Wallace, Maddox and Baker in front of him. I have said it before but I will say it again. Bobby Wallace is going to shock everyone next season. He rushes for at least 800 yards.

i hate to say it, but i have a feeling boby wallace wont play hardly at all. we'll use him like LSU uses trendon holliday (except he'll be less of a prick).
bobby wallace is lightning fast so i hope we get him in when we need that change of pace. something like a singleback set with MD with bobby wideout, then go into an I-formation with MD at FB and bobby back.

Well they will need to make a motion picture and call it Rudy II then. The kid hasn't been able to sniff the playing field while he has been here and you think that out of the blue he is going to be a great running back? Call me crazy, but there is a reason the coaches have not put him in the game.
Also, there is NO way Kenny Miles redshirts. Name the last time we had a RB redshirt his freshman year? It just doesn't happen that much if the kid is any good at all.
It doesn't look like Baker will qualify, so I see Mike Davis, Brian Maddox, and Kenny Miles being our running backs next year. And I think Maddox and Miles both will end up with more carries than Davis. There, I said it, write it down and get back with me a year from now.

I agree completely. I just don't see Wallace as any kind of everydown back. Anything he contributes is a plus.
I also think Maddox will end up the starter at some point with Davis being the guy who spells him unless or until Miles learns to block at a D1 level. If Baker does make it in, he'll be a factor unless he moves to defense.

If Davis doesnt get his head into the game, he wont see many carries next season..I was very disappointed with his effort (especially on punt protection), and I dont think Spurrier is going to put up with that crap next season.
I think it'll be Maddox and Miles..or M & M as I will call them as a tandem..toating the rock next season with Davis coming in on short yardage plays..Eric Baker will end up at linebacker.

I think Maddox will potentially be the guy next year too. Davis is good, hopefully he will play with more intensity in all facets of the game. I'm anxious to see what Wallace will do, I still think he may be a little small but that may make him harder to find. Miles and Baker should be nice additions too. We should have a good rotation to keep everyone fresh.

Maybe the reason was named Cory Boyd. If Brian Maddox isn't ready to contribute right away, I can see Bobby Wallace sharing the time with Mike Davis.
Eric Baker will be here in January.

I have my sources but since they are not people that write articles that are posted on the internet for me to "link to them", then I guess they are not credible.
At the moment, AA is the only one that has fully qualified and will be here in January (of the prep guys). Baker still has a shot at it, but he will need a significant bump to make the cut. I wouldn't be surprised if he made it here but I think it should be noted that it is not a done deal yet due to his academics. The JUCO route has been discussed with him if necessary.

If you look at yards per carry, C Boyd was clearly better. Not to mention Davis missing blocks and fumbling more than Cory. Hopefully he'll be straight by next august

I agree with most of what both of you are saying but I do think that there is a possiblility that we could see more of BW than we think....IF he decides to dedicate more of himself to being a student. Some of his restricted playing in 05 was not all based on football skills and Spurrior demands dedication in all aspects of being a college athalete. I remember that he came into last preseason practice bigger and stronger than 05 and they were saying some very good things about his play. His little bit of play before last season was also because he was playing behind Davis and Boyd after all.
Does anyone think he may be one of our return men instead of risking players like KM?

I think you will see a lot of davis and maddox, but I think bobby wallace must and will see the field especially on third down either swinging out of the back field or in the slot. I don't think people realize how much we missed his speed and play making ability. Also hearing about baker they say he is the real deal. If the o-line gels early this could be an exciting year.
There has to be a place for Wallace and his speed and shiftyness. You would think he would be an ideal candidate for swing passes and screens.

i dont have a doubt in my mind that miles, maddox, baker, or davis could run for over 1000yards next year but they cant do it behind a weak oline. i think our oline will be better next year and if thats the case then i think we can expect a big year running the ball bc we have tons of options.
