who else can't wait to see a healthy joe hills in action. i think if he would have stayed healthy he would of been like dion and stepped up for us this year only a little sooner. or is there someone else on the team that will step there game up and be better than both of these guys (besides kenny). it's going to be a battle this spring at the wr. spot.
we have some very talented WR dressing up for the Gamecocks next year ... a lot of them will have to see if their talent will transfer to the NCAA level ... if they all are able to adjust to the move up in talent ... then we can be very dangerous ... but all in all again ... we have tons of questions going into the season

I'm with you, Rowdy.
I can't wait to see what a healthy Joe Hills will bring to the table. I think he was the freshman wideout everyone was most excited about until he banged up his knee early in the fall.
And what about Jason Barnes? Will he gain the strength and weight this off season that he needs to compete in the SEC? If so, he's another tall, lanky, jumpball threat.
Matt Clements strikes me as a faster, bigger K-Mac. He could be one of our burners if Culliver doesn't end up filling that role.
Will Mark Barnes stay at wideout? He looked good in last years spring game.
Will Culliver stay at wideout or move over to db? If he stays at wideout, that means he's learned to catch and will be a great weapon for us. If he moves to db, I think he's got all-SEC potential.
And of course we've got an already proven commodity in Dion Lecorn. I love this guys hands and how he fights for yardage.
There's little left to be said about Kenny McKinnley. I hope this true Gamecock has a monster year in 2008 and breaks all the records in the book.
Freddy Brown is solid and has great hands.
Moe has all the tools, if he can hang onto the ball.
Larry Freeman has all but disappeared, but he might show up again (I hope for his sake that he does).
Throw in a C.C. Whitlock, D.L. Moore and, hopefully, Streeter and Lawrence, and we've got all kinds of talent at the WR spot.
Of course, a lot of potential yet to be actualized. But here's believing!

i think it will be tough for any of the new guys to come in and see any playing time. not saying they want but we have guys like moe, freddy, freeman and whoever else i missed coming back. but i do think hills will be a big part of the offense next year.

are you kidding me??? everyone is excited to see all of these kids play next season. and everyone is and should be excited to see clements play b/c he is the fastest one out of them all!!!

so does anyone think the guys that came in last year like clements, both barnes, hills, freeman, culliver will take away most of the playing time from freddie and moe brown. me personally i think moe gets more deep balls his way. he was starting to catch the ball pretty well at the end. but freddy i think hills will be a improvement in his spot. clements will see spot duty but if moe has a good spring i think he gets more balls than clements. (again just my opinion)

Moe has all of the tools, especially speed. So, if he can start catching consistently, I think he'll get the playing time. However, if he continues to drop balls, I think guys who redshirted last year will be given a chance.
But I'd love to see Moe succeed. He seems to have a wonderful attitude, and I've read here and there that he works very hard in practice. Apparently, he's just got a confidence problem.

I'm very excited about Clements. Other than Culliver, Clements was the one burner we recruited at wideout last year. And b/c he played some QB in high school, he brings a lot of smarts to the table.

how do we now clements is our fastest wr. i thought moe or culliver was.
If Lawrence comes here he will have no problem starting right away. He's got so much ability and talent.

1 i hope you are right but man it's going to be hard to in here and see playing time right away. with all the unproven wr's we have though you never now.

If Moe Brown continues his progression, I could see him as a player who takes the 5 yard pass and makes it a 10 yard run...I really think we found his niche at the end of this past year. He seems to be more of a 5-15 yard catcher, than the deep ball.
Moe Brown and Lecorn lined up on one side and Mckinley on the other...I see a lot of potential with that. We just need someone who can consistently get the long ball.

yeah but i would love to see moe with soom confidence getting some deep balls. i believe with a qb. with a strong arm moe will get open on deep balls. but i still think somebody's gonna take a back seat to hills. i think he will be a starter along with kenny.

If SOS can get his cock n' fire going, I don't know that any of our guys who are capable will be taking much of a back seat. I think SOS is recruiting all these wideouts with the intention of running 4 and 5 wide sets like he did at Florida. In that scenario, you need around eight or so good receivers, and they're all going to get playing time.
But I agree with you--if Hills can get and stay healthy, I too think he's going to be a starter for us.

With all the WR's we've been recruiting the past 2 years we should be loaded at that position for a while. We need OL's so the QB will actually be able to get the ball to those WR's.

Yea, guess that's why we played 2 true freshmen and several former walk-ons last season, and moved a pretty good DL over to guard this past season, because we're so "loaded" at OL, right? Excuses? ...... No, more like reality.

Theres a lot of talk right now about moving Clement over to DB. I would think probably 2 of the 3 of him, M Barnes, and Culliver will move to D, def at least one of them.

I've heard those rumblings.
Do you know why?
Has Clements requested the move? Or is it b/c the staff feels we're thin at defensive back?
I have heard that M. Barnes might not be able to move back to safety this year b/c his shoulder is still suspect.

You may be right about Barnes, I forgot about his shoulder. I haven't heard anything about Clements moving over to DB. I really don't see him being moved to D.

Before last season started I said that Kenny McKinley might be the most underrated receiver in the country. Even now, I believe he may be still one of the most underrated. However, Freddie Brown has the physical tools to be just as good, if not better. If he can get a grip on the mental part and play with self control, this guy is a stud among studs.
Also, I think most agree with you Click Cock...we have been in dire need of OLine players, not uniform wearers. That cost us dearly this year.

Assuming we grab the big 3 (Moore, Lawrence, Streeter)..M Barnes, Culliver, and Clements could end up in the secondary..Whitlock and Spearman will be there too..So this would be our group:
McKinley, Lecorn, MBrown, FBrown, Hills, JBarnes, Freeman, Moore, Lawrence, Streeter
Then you got Cook and Saunders that will see a lot of snaps and are solid pass catchers
Not bad.

No, not bad at all. It will be fun to watch and see who out off those names really has a big season next year. My bets on Lecorn. He just has all the fundamentals down.

Where do you get that from? I havent seen him break a single tackle or make an acrobatic catch in his 3 years here.

Freddie Brown's #1 problem is that he has a very difficult time getting off the LOS..He just doesnt get enough separation from the defender..I know SOS Jr has been drilling him so hopefully the light bulb comes on.
And he had 1 acrobatic catch against Arkansas 2 years ago where he snagged a pass one handed that was thrown behind him..The guy has great hands.

Did you miss the one-handed catch against arky in 06 that he made turning around? He's still a posession reciever though.

He's had several incredible catches, but early last year...like the first or second game...had a great catch for a first down, then immediately got called for unsportsmanlike conduct or something like that...didn't get back on the field for a long time after that. I also remember either Todd or Duce or George saying something later on about him being in SOS's dog house all season.
Also, after looking at the roster for this past year, we had 13 WR's and Freddie Brown is only a SO...going into his 3rd year (maybe that's why that guy hasn't seen him do much in his "3 yrs" here.

No need to get your panties all crusty on here. It doesn't help you or anyone else. It's OK to disagree and agree. Many, many COCKS! fans watched out OLine struggle all year this year (but some saw the same games...saw something totally different). SOS went off several weeks in a row (in the media) talking about looking for OLine players who would act like they wanted to play and block people. He never did get that combo right in '07. In many of our opinions, that's our biggest need in the off season. In many other's minds, it's somewhere else.

well with the misses we keep getting at WR this class, i sure as hell hope Hills, the Barnes, the Browns and Culliver can step it up. Lecorn was good for us last year, but we need some height out there that Sidney gave us. Hills has highlight film at WR, TE, QB, and S from high school.....this kid is a playmaker and needs to see the field if his knee is good. can't wait

You guys quit robbing the thread with OL discussion. It's a given that we need to get better there.
(I hope you guys can 'cipher what I'm trying to say below)
One thing I've noticed over time is that when it comes to our WR's, or 'skill' players in general, the one's who we are playing the most have been playing essentially since they stepped on campus.
I'm trying to think of one player who 'broke out' after more than a redshirt-freshman year in the program, and I can't think of anybody. Seriously. Help me out here. Name 1 wide receiver without significant playing time his 1st 2-3 years on campus who eventually stepped up and starred for us his junior or senior year. I guess what I'm trying to say is if you aren't playing much for us by the time you're a sophomore, you won't be playing much as a junior or senior either.
