Baseball america I believe made us preseason no.2. Our recruiting class was sadly ranked no.17 this year. Jim Toman leaving probly had something to do with that.

they did lose a lot of players to the league, but still they have always had depth talent wise just like us

I dont give to much credence to this poll. Ill put USC and Ole Miss up against anyone and 6 and 7 are way to low for both. Maybe Im alittle biased though.

Baseball polls mean less that most any other sport IMO. If we win a bunch of games, we make it to Ohama. We lose, we don't. That's no matter what the polls say.

"With an arsenel of bats returning to campus in ’08, South Carolina must be on any shortlist of title contender teams as they regroup and reload for the new season."

It's still nice to hear this though. Even though Omaha is a long way away.

I want to see the first poll of the season. What we are like 6 weeks or less away?

There are two news sources with rankings (which are considered above most others) when the NCAA Selection Committee starts choosing post-season brackets and considering where teams will go, which teams will host and which teams will not make the post-season cut. They are Collegiate Baseball News and Baseball America.

A third source used by the committee, which provides SOS, RPI and ISRs of various teams. That would be Boyd's World.

Collegiate Baseball News is the oldest and longest running of all news sources covering college baseball. Printed out of Phoenix, AZ., it is the source which listed Carolina's recruiting class #18, and its pre-season ranking at #2. Although they go into great depth about mid-western and western teams, it is an impeccable resource for college baseball. Its website: http://www.baseballnews.com/polls/divI/currentpolldivI.htm

Baseball America is a news source out of Durham, N.C. and tends to look at the college baseball world with tarheel blue glasses. Good reason for this... because the publisher and editor are tarheel grads and tend to view college baseball from an ACC/Tarhole slant.

They've gained favor with the NCAA Committee on their rankings probably based off of Commissioner John Swofford's presence, past UNC A.D. and present ACC Commissioner.

He also holds a powerful position on the NCAA Executive Committee for football. Members of this committee are also used (randomly) for post-season baseball considerations. He was on the committee last year. He was also present at the NCAA Baseball Committee meeting recently in Philadelphia.

Their website is: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/ . They gave no ranking for Carolina in '07 recruiting, and picked us as the fourth team (outside of their 8 attending) going to Omaha in '08... essentially ranking us #12. Here is that list:
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/college/features/264410.html

Boyd's World is an intersting website to view on a weekly basis during the season... it is free. They have good editorial on the game, how its ratings indexs are accumulated and have excellent overviews on the use of ratings... pro and con. Here is their site:
http://www.boydsworld.com/ .

Word of advice, because I've been using this info through my subscription for about seven years. CBN is probably your best source of college baseball news out there, bar none.

Particularly information on recruits and what they are up to in H.S.; what awards they've won, the best of the best (by position) in the U.S. You will get a good feel for college baseball (as a whole) if you stick with this as your source for information.

I must add for the person who likes to track other games as they are being played, NCAA Baseball is a great site to stay up-to-date. If you don't have CSTV on USCsports.com, you can get scores (inclu. Gamecock scores) just as well off of this site, and its free:

Baseball polls are odd. Usually they seem to be written by 1 or 2 people for the most part except for a few. I think it was last year or the year before that we where ranked 6th in one poll and 16th in another... best thing is choose 1 or 2, and just stick with them. Baseball America and Colliegate Baseball I think are the most respected.

Well, it looks like no matter who you ask we are in the top ten. I think that's pretty good seeing how we didn't make it to the world series, lost one of our best hitters and pichers and our pitching staff is anybody's guess going into this season.
