watch out for Dorman High. Injuries got us last year but the last year we were fully healthy we played for a state title. Tough region, probably the best in the state but we should pull through

I live in Evans, which is in Columbia County, Ga. If any knows anything about Ga. HS baseball, Columbia County schools have pretty much dominated the state in baseball since the 80's. between Evans, Greenbriar, and Augusta Christian(private school) it has been nasty. If i'm not mistaken there are a few Columbia County players on the Gamecock squad this year.

I love any baseball...I played for Rock Hill in the early 90's, we were a .500 team with SOME good wins, but MORE big losses. There's definately talent in RH, but our coach is horrible. He's been there 25+ years, and until he is gone, we'll just be mediocre at best. Some players went to Northwestern just so they didn't have to play for our coach.

NW and Fort Mill always have good squads along with Lancaster of course. I believe this will be South Pointe's first year, so not sure what to expect from them.

Clover is pretty decent and York is an up and down program.

I played for Boiling Springs from 99-01. Boiling Springs won the Region last season and returns a lot of players, particularly their top two pitchers. Entering the playoffs last season every batter in the lineup was batting over .300 but they went cold in the playoffs. Ill be following those guys again this season. I believe they can win the region again despite Mauldin and Dorman getting more respect.

This should be one of the best teams they've had in a while. Pitchers have back to back combined no hitters already this year. Hope they can win a title but not sure yet.

Boiling Springs beat Dorman last night 3-2 at Dorman. Boiling Springs won the region last season and is undefeated in region play so far this year. Catcher Jeffrey Campbell is batting over .500. Pitcher Jimmy Revan, who beat Dorman, struck out 17 against Gaffney. Both of those guys are going to Spartanburg Methodist College. Im hoping these guys can peak at the right time and make it to the state championship.

I don't think Evans (Suburban augusta, more or less) is supposed to be too great this year. I don't think we've been too good since I graduated in 2004. The guys after me... class of '05... I think they did pretty well... We haven't been to state finals or anything for a while though. Greenbrier's baseball program has surpassed Evans', unfortunately.

LollerCock
03-20-2008, 09:54 AM
In other news for Evans, however, my brother is in 9th grade and is 6'1, 215. He's a beast. And yes he plays football too (LB, FB). My whole family really hopes he grows a few more inches and gets a little faster, then maybe USC will show some interest in him.
*EDIT* I forgot to mention a few of his measurables. Squatted 415 and benched 225 at the end of last summer. Who knows what he's lifting nowadays.

Hartsville Lost in the Championship of the Southeastern Baseball Classic Saturday to Paul VI in a 1-0 game. I think thats the first game they have lost this year. Although they lost, it was the best they have done in the Tournament in the 10 years of it. Several big name Catholic schools come play in it everyyear like Dematha and Paul VI, Notre Dame. Oh well back to the regular season.

jellafever
03-30-2008, 01:20 PM
No Im pretty sure they lost one more time earlier in the year in another tournament. But this was also with a bunch of big time baseball teams from around the nation. So far in SCHSL play theyre undefeated.

Also, I am from Florence so every now and then I get a chance to read the sports section. Everytime I read about their games in the paper, I never see where Jordan Lyles was the pitcher. Its always some other name. Anyone know anything about this? Maybe its just bad timing, but I thought he was a pitcher.

you guys are always good. When I played at Rock Hill, we always came there for a scrimmage and would get drilled.

....but all we cared about was getting some chicken bog after the game...from y'alls parents...I guess. Good stuff.

I played in a summer baseball game like 5 or so years ago and we played Evans, Greenbriar, Westside and a few of those schools and they railed us. they definately have some good programs in that area though.

I forgot about the Tournament at Georgetown. Lyles is pitching. I think he pitched a shut out in maybe the first game of the tourney. He was the winning pitcher against Sumter also. When he pitched the other day the fence was lined with more radar guns than all of Darlington County Police dept has.
